The psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (POF) is a rare and benign fibro-osseous lesion predominantly affecting the paranasal sinuses and orbits of children and young adults. The diagnosis and management of the lesion remains challenging. The present study reported a rare case of a large POF in a 39-year-old male patient. The patient had a 30 year history of a slowly growing tumor and this had resulted in right craniofacial deformity, as well as right lateral displacement of the eye ball. Due to the large tumor size, surgical removal of the lesion was the predominant treatment. At 5 months after co

INTRODUCTION: Juvenile ossifying fibromas are uncommon benign tumors. Their aggressiveness added to their high tendency to recur, provoke real diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for the dental practitioner and make a postoperative follow-up over the years indispensable.
CASE REPORT: In this report, we present a case of a seven-year-old girl presented with a swelling in the face at the upper right maxillary region. After clinical, radiological, and histopathological examinations the diagnosis of trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma was made. The lesion was surgically excised and followed u

Ossifying fibroma involving the sinonasal tract is an extremely rare occurrence. We are reporting a case of ossifying fibroma in the left maxillary sinus in a 19-year-old female who presented with a mass in the left cheek and nasal obstruction. On examination, the swelling in the left cheek seemed to originate from the left maxilla and was smooth and bony hard. Patient underwent detailed radiological and image guided cytopathological investigations. Depending on the results of these tests complete surgical excision of the mass was done. Histopathological evaluation of the excised mass revealed

Central ossifying fibroma (COF) is a benign osteogenic neoplasm, with fibrous tissue and calcifications similar to bone, which has the clinical presentation of an asymptomatic bulging. It is more common in the mandibular premolar and molar region, in the third and fourth decades of life, and in women more frequently than men. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice and additional reconstruction is essential due to the functional and esthetic problems faced by the patient. This article describes the surgical treatment and subsequent reconstruction in a 22-year-old man with COF and an expans

The non-ossifying fibroma (NOF) is a benign, non-neoplastic lesion most commonly seen in the metaphyses of the long bones in children. While rare, the NOF has been reported in the mandible. The NOF in the extra-gnathic skeleton has a characteristic radiographic appearance, is typically asymptomatic and has a variable histologic make-up. Correlation of the radiographic appearance, clinical presentation and histopathology allows for differentiation of the NOF from odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts and tumors. We report a new case of this interesting entity and review the radiographic, clinic

A 28-year-old man presented with proptosis and medial displacement of the right eye, intermittent pain, and diplopia of 1 month's duration. Radiologic examination demonstrated a mass in the right lateral orbit resembling an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). Histopathologic evaluation of the surgically excised lesion via orbitotomy confirmed the radiologic diagnosis. Two months later, the patient presented again with a mass at the same location as the previous one, with a major component that was solid. The recurrent lesion was excised via frontal craniotomy. Histopathologic examination of the surgic

Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma is a gingival lesion of reactive nature and unknown etiology. Such a lesion can either interfere with normal tooth eruption or become a factor in plaque development, which usually results in caries formation in newly erupted teeth. Therefore, the objective of the present article was to report a case of peripheral cemento ossifying fibroma occurring in the mandibular posterior region of a 11-year-old girl in association with both absence of premolar eruption and presence of severely caried first permanent molar.

Peripheral ossifying fibroma, a reactive gingival disorder known under the generic term of epulis, is widely considered to originate from the cells of the periodontal ligament. A 39-year-old woman presented with a well circumscribed, hard pedunculated exophytic tumor measuring 2 cm in size, without ulceration. The lesion had developed three months before in the interdental space, between the lower left lateral incisor and canine. No radiological signs of involvement of the alveolar ridge were observed, and the clinically manifest diastema was confirmed. The histological study of the specimen a

Journal of oral pathology & medicine : official publication of the International Association of Oral Pathologists and the American Academy of Oral Pathology1989eng
A clinical, radiographic, histologic and follow up study of 18 cases of ossifying fibroma involving the mandible and maxilla was performed. Differences in behavior and management according to age, location, radiographic appearance and histopathology were not evident. A wide range of microscopic findings within and between cases was evident, while the radiographic finding consisting of sharp delineation was consistent in all cases. The presence or absence of cementum or cementum-like material and various types of formed elements was likewise of little clinical significance. Finally, a potential

A 20-year-old man presenting with osteomalacia was found to have the Fanconi syndrome, as evidenced by hypophosphatemia with hyperphosphaturia, glycosuria in the presence of normoglycemia, and generalized aminoaciduria. After removal of a non-ossifying fibroma of the left tibia, the renal tubular abnormalities promptly resolved with subsequent healing of the osteomalacia. A humoral factor released from the tumor may have caused the disorder in proximal renal tubular cell transport.

We report an aggressive cemento-ossifying fibroma of the ethmoidal sinus that initially manifested as proptosis and was misdiagnosed as meningioma after a frozen section was tested. Fibroosseous lesions containing cementum are considered to be of periodontal membrane origin and are most common in the mandible and maxilla. With the exception of the gigantiform cementoma, they are usually small, innocuous lesions following a benign course and are easily removed surgically. On rare occasions, the cemento-ossifying fibroma attains a large size, behaves aggressively, destroys bone, and requires rad

Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma (PCOF) is an uncommon, reactive gingival lesion classified under fibro-osseous pathologies. It predominantly affects the anterior maxilla, accounting for approximately 60% of reported cases and is less frequently observed in the mandible. This case report details the two cases of PCOF wherein the patients presented with localized gingival swelling. Histopathological examination demonstrated a hypercellular fibrous connective tissue matrix interspersed with mineralized components resembling bone and cementum. Given the lesion's propensity for recurrence, dil

Psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma (PJOF) is a rare benign tumor that usually affects the paranasal sinuses, orbit, and skull. In most cases, extensive incisions are necessary for full access to the tumor site. The aim of this paper is to report a case of extensive PJOF in which an intraoral surgical approach was performed with complete excision of the tumor. A female patient, 18-year old had a deforming volume increase in the region of the left facial middle third with an approximate evolution time of 2 years. She complained of headache, epiphora in the left eye, and total obstruction of

INTRODUCTION: Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a rare type of tumor characterized by fibrous tissue proliferation with cementum- or bone-like hard tissue formation. Since its first report by Montgomery in 1927, several cases of OF have been reported; however, no cases of OF arising from the zygomatic arch have been reported. Herein, we report a case of OF arising from the zygomatic arch.
CLINICAL CASE SUMMARY: A 70-year-old female visited our department in February 2017 because of a gradually growing osseous protrusion in the right zygomatic region, which she was aware of since the previous 6 months

BACKGROUND: Ossifying fibroma is a rare benign fibro-osseous lesion seen in the bones of the head and neck area. It is mostly found in the mandible followed by the maxilla and rarely in the paranasal sinuses along with the orbit and skull bones.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old male patient presented with headache and incidental finding of a right ethmoidal sinus ossifying fibroma by paranasal-sinuses CT scan and MRI of the face. A flexible fiber-optic nasal endoscopy examination revealed a right side fullness. A non-contrasted CT scan of the paranasal sinus showed hyperdense lesion at the ri

The fibro osseous lesions of the jaws represent a diverse group of entities that are characterized by replacement of normal bone by a fibrous connective tissue matrix, with in which varying amounts of osteoid, immature and mature bone and in some instances, cementum like material are deposited. Fibro osseous lesions of the jaws include developmental (hamartomatous) lesions, reactive or dysplastic processes and neoplasms. Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a unique fibro osseous neoplasm. It has 2 histopathological variants (1) Trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) and (2) Psammomatoid

Central ossifying fibroma is a benign neoplasm, having slow growing nature. Some rare lesions show very aggressive nature, multifocal appearance and reach up to a very massive size. So, these kinds of cases require special attention for their treatment. A unique case of central ossifying fibroma with aggressive nature, multifocal appearance is reported. This case shows growth both in maxilla and mandible with maxillary lesion massive in size involving maxillary sinus. There have not been any such cases reported so far in the literature showing bimaxillary growth of ossifying fibroma.
