BACKGROUND: Tumors of the fibula comprise only 2.5% of primary bone lesions. Patients with aggressive benign tumors in the proximal fibula may require en bloc resection. Peroneal nerve function, knee stability, and recurrence are substantial concerns with these resections. The incidence and fate of these complications is not well-known owing to the small numbers of patients in previous reports.

Ten adults were studied two to seven years after resection of a fibula for use as a free vascularised bone graft. Six had no symptoms in the donor leg, four had some aching, weakness or paraesthesia and three had definite weakness of the long toe flexors and extensors. Ankle fractures involving the distal fibula are common injuries. Malreductions and subsequent malunions of the distal fibula can result in worse clinical outcomes and posttraumatic arthritis. The ability to accurately evaluate and identify malreductions and malunions of the distal fibula is important. A number of different radiographic and CT measurements have been described to assess fibular length and rotation. This review highlights various radiologic measures and discusses their advantages and limitations.

BACKGROUND: Ankle syndesmosis injury is difficult to diagnose accurately at the initial visit. Missed diagnosis or improper treatment can lead to chronic complications. BACKGROUND: Relatively low incidence has led to an under-rating of fibula tumors. This study aimed to evaluate fibula tumors as a whole and to give detailed information based on histological types according to the anatomic location of the tumors in the fibula.
METHODS: Evaluation was made of all the primary bone tumors of the fibula recorded in our bone tumor registry and institute of pathology from 2007 to 2018. Of these, 62 cases were identified. Analysis included assessment of age, gender, tumor localization, the presenting symptoms, the duration of symptoms, and treatment methods.

This study reviewed operative treatment of Maisonneuve fracture of the fibula in 26 patients. Operative treatment consisted of restoration of the fibular length, repair of the lateral and medial ankle ligamentous structures, and placement of one or two suprasyndesmotic screws. After average follow-up of 6.4 years, the clinical results were satisfactory in 23 (88.4%) patients. Operative treatment is the treatment of choice for Maisonneuve fractures, and a satisfactory outcome may be anticipated after appropriate management of any associated bony and syndesmotic injuries.

Fibular agenesis/hypoplasia is the most common reduction malformation affecting the long bones. Agenesis of both the fibulae, however, is rare, and its occurrence in four consecutive pregnancies has not been reported so far. We report our experience with one such case.
