Comparative antiplaque effectiveness of an essential oil and an amine fluoride/stannous fluoride mouthrinse.

The adjunctive use of antimicrobial mouthrinses to help control supragingival plaque and gingivitis has been shown to contribute significantly to patients' daily oral hygiene regimens. This controlled clinical study used an observer-blind, randomized, cross-over design in a 4-day plaque regrowth model to determine the relative efficacies of an essential oil-containing mouthrinse (Listerine Antiseptic) and an amine fluoride/stannous fluoride-containing mouthrinse (Meridol) in inhibiting the development of supragingival plaque. A 0.1% chlorhexidine mouthrinse (Chlorhexamed-Fluid) was used as a p

Fluoride kinetics of the axial skeleton measured in vivo with fluorine-18-fluoride PET.

UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to quantify regional bone blood flow and influx rate with PET and [18F]fluoride in patients with metabolic bone disorders. METHODS: Dynamic imaging of the spine or pelvis was performed after administration of 300-370 MBq of 18F-. Plasma clearance of 18F- was determined in blood sampled from the radial artery. A three-compartment model was used to estimate the regional flow and fluoride influx rate. RESULTS: In this preliminary study, fluoride flux (in micromol/min/liter) could be measured regionally. The flux was consistent with the pathophysiology of th

Protective effect of topically applied fluoride in relation to fluoride sensitivity of mutans streptococci.

The aim of the present in vitro experiments was to determine whether the protection of enamel by topically applied fluoride against demineralization by bacterial acids would depend on the fluoride sensitivity of the bacteria. Glucose-agarose gel suspensions of fluoride-sensitive and fluoride-resistant mutans streptococci were placed on bovine enamel specimens with different amounts of fluoride. One group of specimens was untreated, a second group had been pretreated with a F-lacquer, and a third group had been pretreated with the F-lacquer and rinsed subsequently with a KOH-solution, to remove

Efficacy of Silver Diamine Fluoride and Nanosilver Fluoride in Preventing Caries: A Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries remains a prevalent global health issue, particularly among children. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a well-established caries-arresting agent, while nanosilver fluoride (NSF), a newer formulation combining silver nanoparticles and fluoride, offers potential antibacterial and remineralizing benefits. However, comparative evidence on their caries-preventive efficacy remains limited. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial was conducted involving 90 caries-active children aged 6 to 9 years. Participants were randomly assigned to three groups (n

Toxic fluoride and carbonate bound fluoride in sediments from typical fluorosis areas.

A critical investigation in environmental science, examining the fluoride geochemistry of sediments from uniquely characterized fluoride-rich location. The investigation of sediment samples collected from Yuncheng Basin. This purposeful decision is based on the notion that the existence of water flow influences fluoride distribution and geochemical behavior in sediments. We want to understand fundamental patterns and processes that drive fluoride dynamics in these ecosystems by focusing our research on sediments. Our findings reveal that the total fluoride content in sediments ranges from 624.

In vitro enamel and cementum fluoride uptake from three fluoride-containing composites.

The incorporation of fluoride into restorations is desirable because of its cariostatic action. The purpose of this study was to determine fluoride release and fluoride uptake by enamel and cementum from three visible light-cured fluoride-containing composites. Seven circular discs of each composite were prepared and the amount of fluoride released into distilled water was determined at daily intervals for 14 days and then after 30, 60 and 90 days. The fluoride concentration in enamel and cementum was determined in three successive depths by an acid etch biopsy procedure. The composite slabs w

The cessation of fluoridated water administration and the fluoride distribution profiles in rat molar cementum.

The aim of this work was to obtain further information about the origin of fluoride profiles in cementum. Fluoride was administered to rats at varying doses (0.50, 100 ppm F in drinking water) and for different durations (4, 13 and 25 weeks). Fluoride distribution across the full thickness of molar cementum in rats was measured by means of an abrasive micro-sampling technique. The average fluoride concentrations in cementum increased significantly with increasing dose and duration of fluoride administration. The relative reduction of the average fluoride concentrations after cessation of fluor
