The Caries-Arrest Effectiveness of Silver Diamine Fluoride Treatment with Different Post-Treatment Instructions in Preschool Children: A Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

In this 12-month randomized active-controlled clinical trial, we compare two post-treatment instructions for silver diamine fluoride (SDF) therapy in arresting dentine caries. The trial will include at least 254 kindergarten children with active dentine caries. The children will be randomized into two groups and receive a 38% SDF solution applied topically to their carious lesions. Children in Group A will rinse immediately, whereas those in Group B will refrain from rinsing, eating, and drinking for 30 min. One trained examiner will perform the dental examination at baseline and every six mon

Comparison of the Effectiveness of Fluoride Varnish and Fluoride-Releasing Adhesives in Preventing and Managing White Spot Lesions During Fixed Orthodontic Treatment, and Evaluation of Patient-Reported Outcomes: A Randomised Controlled Trial 1 Year After Debonding.

BACKGROUND: White spot lesions (WSL) may appear on teeth during fixed orthodontic treatment. Professionally administered topical fluorides play a key role in preventing such lesions. However, the evidence for their long-term efficacy and patient-reported outcomes is limited. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to evaluate the efficacy of topical fluorides (varnish vs. adhesive) in reducing the incidence of white spot lesions (WSLs) during and after 1 year of fixed orthodontic treatment. The secondary objectives were patient-related outcomes, including perception of WSLs and adverse effects o

School-Based Fluoride Mouth-Rinse Programs and Dental Caries Treatment Expenditure: An Ecological Study of the NDB Open Data Japan.

OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of dental caries is high in Japan, leading to a huge burden of overall expenditure on dental caries treatment for the population. School-based fluoride mouth-rinse (S-FMR) has been implemented as a public health intervention. However, its cost-effectiveness remains unclear, where universal health insurance covers a broad range of dental treatments at relatively low cost. The aim of the study was to determine whether S-FMR is associated with lower dental caries treatment expenditure in Japan, where the universal health insurance system widely covers dental treatments.

Alteration in cytoskeletal protein levels in sciatic nerve on post-treatment of diisopropyl phosphorofluoridate (DFP)-treated hen with phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride.

Diisopropyl phosphorofluoridate (DFP) is an organophosphorus ester, and a single dose (1.7 mg/kg, sc.) of this compound produces mild ataxia in hens in 7-14 days and a severe ataxia or paralysis (OPIDN) in three weeks. OPIDN is associated with axonal swelling and their degeneration. We have previously observed alteration in neurofilament (NF) protein levels in the spinal cord of DFP-treated hens. The main objective of this investigation was to study NF protein levels in the sciatic nerves (SN) of hens, in which OPIDN has been potentiated by phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) post-treatment.

Mechanism of action of a desensitizing fluoride toothpaste delivering calcium and phosphate ingredients in the treatment of dental hypersensitivity. Part II: comparison with a professional treatment for tooth hypersensitivity.

Tooth hypersensitivity can occur when gum recession causes exposure of dentin. Tiny tubules, which permeate dentin, provide open passageways from the mouth to the intradental nerve in the pulpal cavity. Under such circumstances, stimuli in the mouth can cause pressure on the intradental nerve, leading to pain. Sealing the outside of the tubules with an impermeable substance can effectively treat hypersensitivity. One such clinically proven composition is a professionally applied tooth desensitizer, which has been shown to initially produce a layer of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) on the su

In vitro assessment of the antimicrobial activity of a local sustained release device containing amine fluoride for the treatment of oral infectious diseases.

Dental caries and periodontal diseases are chronic infectious diseases caused by oral bacteria. Local sustained release delivery systems extend the time in which the drug is present in the oral cavity, thus enhancing its therapeutic potential while reducing its side effects. Amine-fluorides (AmF) are known anticaries agents and have recently been found to have an antibacterial effect against periodontal pathogens and caries-associated bacteria. The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the antimicrobial activity of a local sustained release device (LSRD) containing AmF on Streptococcus

Effects of chlorhexidine-fluoride gel treatments in mothers on the establishment of mutans streptococci in primary teeth and the development of dental caries in children.

In a longitudinal 3-year study, 151 children were followed for the colonization of the primary dentition by mutans streptococci (MS) and for the development of dental caries. At the age of 1 year, the child-mother pairs were divided into three groups on the basis of the levels of MS in maternal saliva. In the experimental group, the mothers had MS levels higher than 10(5) CFU/ml, and they were given chlorhexidine (1%)-sodium fluoride (0.2%) gel treatments twice a year for 3 years. Two control groups were formed. In control group 1, the mothers also had high levels of MS, but no gel was given.
