[The relationship between forgivingness, mental health and psychotherapy].

Forgivingness occupies a prominent place in religions as well as in various philosophical systems of ethics and can be defined as the free, personal distancing from feelings of rage and resentment toward a person or persons having committed an injustice. The main psychological function of forgiveness consists in allowing for the replacement of negative emotions by positive ones, such as generosity, goodness, compassion, empathy, or even love toward the offender. It must be emphasized that forgiveness is independent from reconciliation, and it is not simply a form of tolerance, justification, o

The Contribution of Cognitive Strategies to the Resilience of Women Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Non-Abused Women.

This study examines the contribution of four strategies-self-forgiveness, realistic control, unrealistic control, and hope-to the resilience of 100 women survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), as compared with 84 non-sexually abused women. The findings show that CSA survivors exhibited lower resilience, lower self-forgiveness, lower hope, and higher levels of posttraumatic symptoms (PTS). They also indicate that resilience was explained by the participants' financial status, PTS severity, and two cognitive strategies-self-forgiveness and hope. Finally, PTS and hope mediated the relation be

Exploring the maladaptive cognitions of moral injury within a primarily combat-trauma military sample.

OBJECTIVE: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a prominent mental health condition that affects military personnel. Moral injury is another mental health concern among military personnel that requires further investigation. Moral injury results when the individual is exposed to a situation or event that violates their moral code. Meanwhile, PTSD results when there is a substantial threat of harm. Although distorted cognitions are core components of PTSD symptomatology, there is no research of cognitions in moral injury. The current study examined how maladaptive cognitions (i.e., self-wor

Forgivingness Across Social Relationships and Family Generations Over Time.

INTRODUCTION: This study addressed individual differences in forgivingness, or the tendency to forgive others, across multiple social relationships and family generations over time. METHODS: We used longitudinal data over 4 years across three family generations, including young adults (n = 501; M = 20.4 years), their parents (n = 350; M = 50.9 years), and grandparents (n = 199; M = 76.1 years). Participants were asked to respond on their willingness to forgive the other two generations, as well as their romantic partner and friends. Multilevel modeling was employed to examine how forgivingnes

Social pain: A systematic review on interventions.

Social pain is emotional distress caused by harm or threat to social connections that results in social exclusion, rejection, or loss. Social Pain is also a potentiator of physical pain. Supportive social relationships are widely recognized for their impact on maintaining health and well-being. The Passion of Jesus Christ serves as a quintessential example of social pain (i.e., desertion, betrayal, denial) potentiating physical pain (i.e., beatings, Crown of Thorns, crucifixion). Christ opts to forgive. Although forgiveness is one solution to reduce social pain, other interventions exist. This

Trait responses after interpersonal offending: A dyadic examination of effects on romantic relationship quality.

As with all types of relationships, romantic relationships will involve at least occasional instances of interpersonal harm. When one partner commits a transgression against the other, how they respond next may influence whether the situation resolves or escalates. Research has identified three main response patterns to interpersonal transgressions-self-forgiveness, self-exoneration, and self-condemnation-each with potential relationship consequences that may either support or hinder the relationship. We examined these three response tendencies with romantic partners to understand their dyadic

Cardiovascular response to interpersonal provocation and mental arithmetic among high and low hostile young adult males.

To examine the relation between hostility and cardiovascular reactivity to stress, 42 undergraduate men were categorized into high and low hostile groups based on responses to the Cook Medley Hostility Scale. Participants engaged in two laboratory tasks: a Cognitive Task (mental arithmetic) and a Social Task (confrontation role-play). Cardiovascular measures of heart rate and blood pressure were obtained throughout rest and task periods and participants provided ratings of state anger and forgiveness following task completion. Results revealed that low hostile participants exhibited greater sy

Detecting unforgiving roadside contributors through the severity analysis of ran-off-road crashes.

The objective of this paper is to study the contributors influencing ran-off-road (ROR) crash severities in a setting that has not been analysed in the literature, namely on freeways not designed according to the "forgiving roadside" concept. To accomplish the analysis, ROR crash data were collected on freeway road sections in Portugal and multinomial and mixed logit models were estimated using the driver injury and the most severely injured occupant as outcome variables. Our results are in line with previous findings reported in the literature on ROR crash severity in a number of distinct set

Finding better solutions to end bullying: what an organizalion can do .

In order to stop bullying we must recognize and assess the problem, discuss it, educate and train employees, and create zero tolerance policies and formal/informal complaint processes, ensuring that they are fair and safe for the person making a complaint. This series of articles has touched on the very real issue of bullying in our workplaces and among our professional peers in midwifery. My personal goal for this series was to find the essence of the lesson in bullying and how it can become a positive subject. Once it has been "named" and discussed and organizations try to change the tide an

Transgression-related co-rumination: Scale validation and prediction of relational outcomes.

Co-rumination refers to the extended and/or recurring discussion of issues in social relationships. The extant research tends to conceptualize co-rumination in terms of general interaction styles, commonly between individuals who act as a source of support for one another. Little work has examined co-rumination in conflict contexts, between victims and offenders, as an event-specific process to come to terms with wrongdoing. The present research develops and validates a new scale measuring three distinct approaches to transgression-related co-rumination: co-reflection, co-brooding, and co-avoi

Impact of religion and spirituality on the incidence of depression and mental health among young adults in the Czech Republic.

INTRODUCTION: The issue of the impact of religion and spirituality on mental health is a phenomenon which has recently become increasingly more accentuated. Despite the attention given to the topic, many questions still remain as to whether and how religion and spirituality affect a person's mental wellbeing. In the text below, we have focused on examining the relationship between religion and spirituality and mental health among young adults in the Czech Republic. Research also explored the idea that forgiveness can be viewed as a component of religion or spirituality. MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Quality of life and burden during the COVID-19 pandemic: a longitudinal study with family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer's disease.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic intensified the challenges faced by family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer's disease, potentially affecting their psychological, behavioral, and physiological well-being. Understanding how these processes evolve over time is critical for informing targeted interventions. METHODS: A longitudinal study was conducted with 130 Portuguese family caregivers assessed at three time points over a 12-month period. Measures included quality of life (QoL), caregiver burden, psychological distress, forgiveness, health behaviors, caregiving competence, family

Could spirituality and religion promote stress resilience in survivors of childhood trauma?

Trauma is a precursor to many mental health conditions that greatly impact victims, their loved ones, and society. Studies indicate that neurobiological associations with adverse childhood experiences are mediated by interpersonal relationships and play a role in adult behavior, often leading to cycles of intergenerational trauma. There is a critical need to identify cost effective community resources that optimize stress resilience. Faith-based communities may promote forgiveness rather than retaliation, opportunities for cathartic emotional release, and social support, all of which have been

Once- Versus Twice-Daily Tacrolimus Therapy: Does Improved Adherence Lead to Better Efficacy?-A Pharmacokinetic Perspective.

Tacrolimus, a critical immunosuppressant in organ transplantation, is available in immediate-release (IR-T) and extended-release (ER-T) formulations. While ER-T improves patient adherence, clinical studies have not demonstrated superior outcomes compared to IR-T. However, the underlying reasons for this discrepancy remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate tacrolimus exposure under non-adherent dosing behaviors with IR-T and ER-T and to provide insights for selecting the optimal tacrolimus formulation. Monte Carlo simulations were conducted to assess the proportion of target attainment (%PT
