Several techniques are used for fixation of Bennett's fractures. The aim of this study was to assess a technique of arthroscopic-assisted reduction and percutaneous cannulated screw fixation of Bennett's fractures. Seven patients (mean age 29 years) with three fractures Type I and four fractures Type II according to Gedda were operated under arthroscopic lavage, fluoroscopic screw fixation, and arthroscopic control of the joint reduction. Arthroscopy, showed satisfactory joint reduction in all cases. At 4.5 months, the mean pain score was 1 (0-4), QuickDASH 15 (0-61), and Kapandji score 9 (5-1

This paper describes a minimally invasive percutaneous technique for reduction and fixation of distal fibula fractures using plate osteosynthesis. We believe this technique benefits patients with poor quality soft tissue envelopes. So far a total of 25 patients have undergone percutaneous fixation, 22 females and 3 males. At no stage yet has a minimally invasive procedure been abandoned intra-operatively in favour of conversion to an open procedure. The mean age was 61.6 years (range 25-80 years). The mean time to surgery was 2.00 days (range 0-5) and mean time to discharge was 4.20 days (rang

BACKGROUND: Displaced tibial plateau fractures are traditionally treated with internal fixation using autologous bone grafting to provide structural support. In comminuted and osteoporotic fractures, there can be insufficient autograft available for this. Fresh-frozen bone allograft is readily available in sufficient quantity to fill all voids, is relatively inexpensive, and avoids donor site morbidity.
METHODS: We describe our technique and the early clinical and radiologic results of compaction morselized bone grafting (CMBG) for displaced tibial plateau fractures using fresh-frozen allogra

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the technique and clinical effect in the surgical reduction and screw fixation of sagittal condylar fractures.
METHODS: Open treatment was performed on 21 cases (23 condyles) with sagittal condylar fractures. The condylar fracture segment was reduced and fixed by screw (long screw or lag screw). The patients began the mandible movement exercise early after the operation, and follow-up was performed in the first half year after the operation.
RESULTS: Favorable results were obtained in all cases. Slight malocclusion was observed in 3 cases accompanied with mandible f

Compared with nonsurgical management or delayed repair, early fracture fixation can reduce the incidence of pulmonary complications in patients with long-bone fractures of the lower extremities. Blunt trauma victims often have multiple nonskeletal injuries that might influence the risk of pulmonary complications, and when head injuries are present it has been a common practice to delay nonemergent operations for several days to protect the injured brain. We conducted a retrospective review of 114 patients with multiple trauma whose injuries included head trauma and a fracture of the neck or sh

A case of femoral neck fracture despite the presence of a previously inserted sliding screw and sideplate is reported. Internal fixation in itself did not prevent subsequent fracture. A critical factor in the mechanism of this fracture was the patient's underlying disease, felt to be alcoholic osteomalacia.

INTRODUCTION: Trochanteric femoral fractures are among the most common operatively treated fractures. Intramedullary fixation has become the treatment of choice in many centers around the world. Nevertheless, the knowledge of rare complications of these fractures is limited. In this study, the incidence and treatment strategies for peri-implant fractures (PIF) were assessed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single-center retrospective cohort study was done on 987 consecutive operatively treated trochanteric fractures. PFNA cephalomedullary nail was used as a fixation method. All patients were followe

An 18-year-old male presented after a motor vehicle rollover accident. Computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed the diagnosis of Type II odontoid fracture. Considering the patient's young age and the limitations of C1-C2 fusion including significant loss of cervical rotation, temporary internal fixation with a lateral mass fixation of C1 and pedicle fixation of C2 without fusion was done. CT scan done at 6-month follow-up visit showed healed odontoid fracture and excellent C1-C2 alignment. At ninth postoperative month, internal fixation was removed. Patient had normal movements of cervical spin

OBJECTIVES: Surgical management of calcaneal tuberosity fractures is challenging, as patient outcomes can be compromised by skin flap necrosis and implant failure. We propose a technique utilizing a prefabricated L-shaped hook plate, which represents an innovative clinical orthopedic surgical approach.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, patients with Beavis type II calcaneal tuberosity fractures underwent internal fixation using a preformed "L-shape" hook plate (2015-2020). Data on operative time, complications, and healing time were recorded. Functional outcomes were evaluated using the A

INTRODUCTION: Cannulated screw fixation is a common technique employed for the closed reduction and fixation of minimally or non-displaced neck of femur (NOF) fractures. A rare but potentially devastating complication is a peri-implant subtrochanteric fracture. Given the possibility of dealing with two potentially unstable fractures in close proximity from an incomplete union of the femoral neck, surgical fixation must be carefully planned with the option of retaining the existing cancellous screws to maintain femoral neck stability. The authors describe a case of subtrochanteric fracture in a

INTRODUCTION: Ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures are rare, high-energy injuries posing diagnostic and management challenges. Optimal treatment strategies remain debated. This case study presents a successful approach using dual fixation with retrograde intramedullary nailing and dynamic hip screw (DHS) fixation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old male driver presented following a motor vehicle accident with right thigh and hip pain, swelling, and deformity. Radiographic evaluation revealed a transverse femoral shaft fracture combined with an ipsilateral, non-displaced transcervical fe

In this study, the biomechanical differences among three internal fixation configurations for treatment of Pauwels type II and III femoral neck fractures were analyzed. Using finite element analysis, the femur displacement and stress distributions of the internal fixation device and fracture section were obtained for different patients and movement conditions. The results show that patients with osteoporosis are more prone to femoral varus and femoral neck shortening, and the fracture probability of the device for these patients is higher than that for patients with normal bone. The treatment

PURPOSE: Zygomatic bone has a higher risk of sustaining injuries in the maxillofacial skeleton. On fracturing, zygomatic bone separates from the four neighbouring bones at its articulations. Treatment for zygomaticomaxillary fractures has evolved a long way since 3000 BC. With the advent of miniplates for midface fracture, controversies still exist regarding the stability of zygoma following 1, 2, and 3 points for fixation. The study aims to compare and determine the most effective technique for the reduction of zygomaticomaxillary fractures and the ability to retain the fractured zygoma in a

Fixation of proximal humerus fractures with precontoured, fixed angle devices has improved operative management of these difficult injuries, particularly in patients with osteoporosis. However, recent data has revealed that fixation with these constructs is not without complications, particularly screw cut-out and loss of reduction. Multiple strategies have been developed to decrease the number of complications. We offer a surgical technique combining suture augmentation of the proximal humerus with locked plate fixation utilizing short screws.

PURPOSE: To assess the morbidity of open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of posterior malleolus fractures (PMFs) in the setting of trimalleolar ankle fractures.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 79 trimalleolar ankle fractures was performed to identify need for syndesmotic fixation, blood loss, operative/tourniquet time, complications, and reoperations. Patients with PMF ORIF (n = 38) were compared to those with no fixation (n = 41). A subanalysis of patients with small PMFs (< 25%) was performed.
RESULTS: The PMF ORIF group required less syndesmosis fixation (proportional difference (PD
