Stress fracture is the result of bone destruction with prolonged and repetitive loading. It usually occurs among various groups, including athletes, military recruits, and others. Early stress fractures often undergo undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of atypical symptoms and effective medical examination. Here, we report a rare clinical case about the multiple stress fractures in one adolescent. Expect for the pathological biopsy, it hardly gets confirm diagnosis. With the increasing population of sports lover, healthcare institutions should be enhanced their understanding of stress fracture

PURPOSE: Stress fractures are common overuse running injuries. Individuals with stress fractures exhibit running biomechanics characterized by elevated impact peak and loading rate. While elevated impact peak and loading rate are associated with stress fractures, there are few established metrics used to identify the presence of stress fractures in individuals. Here this study aims to exploit the linear relationship between the impact peak and loading rate to establish a metric to help identify individuals with stress fractures. We hypothesize that the ratio between the impact peak and loading

INTRODUCTION: Stress fractures are common injuries in the military population, they begin with the imposition of repetitive and excessive effort on the bone. This leads to the acceleration of bone remodeling and production of microfractures. The incidence, during their basic combat training, is 0.8 to 5.1% for men compared to 1.1 to 18% among women. We present a series of hip stress fractures in young male military men with progressive training of 8 hours a day over a period of 14 weeks.
RESULTS: Mean age 19.72 years, 4 transcervical and 7 basicervical fractures, 6 displaced and 5 no, 54.5 %

BACKGROUND: Although the onset mechanism of an olecranon stress fracture (OSF) due to a throwing disorder is believed to involve valgus extension overload, olecranon posteromedial impingement, or triceps traction force, this issue is still debated in the literature.
PURPOSE: To establish a classification system for the different types of OSFs to improve diagnosis and clarify the onset mechanism.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: A total of 200 baseball players (198 male, 2 female; mean age, 16.1 years; age range, 13-27 years) who were diagnosed with an OSF from Janua

Tibial diaphyseal stress fractures are rare in the general population, but are more frequently seen in the athletic and military communities. The diagnosis of this problem may be problematic and needs to be considered in all athletes and military recruits who present with shin or ankle pain. The female triad in athletes (low-energy availability/disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis/osteopenia) should be considered in those women who sustain this injury. Management is usually conservative with a variety of rehabilitation programs suggested, but a pragmatic approach is to manage the pa

Stress fractures occur following excessive use and are commonly seen in athletes, in whom the lower limbs are frequently involved. Delayed diagnosis and management of these injuries can result in significant long-term damage and athlete morbidity. A high index of suspicion may facilitate diagnosis, but clinical presentation may be non-specific. In this regard, imaging in the form of plain radiograph, CT, MRI and bone scintigraphy may be of value. This article reviews the incidence, presentation, radiological findings and management options for athletes with stress fractures of the lower limb.

In soccer players, lower extremity stress fractures are common injuries and are the result of repetitive use damage that exceeds the intrinsic ability of the bone to repair itself. They may be treated conservatively but this may cause long-term complications, such as delayed union, muscle atrophy and chronic pain. Stress fractures that fail to respond to this management require surgical treatment, which is also not without risks and complications. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been used successfully on fracture complications, such as delayed union and nonunion. As such, we want

We present the case of an apparently healthy 22-year-old female who presented with atraumatic stress fractures of both fibulae. Further investigation demonstrated that she had osteopoenia secondary to occult coeliac disease. The fractures were successfully treated non-operatively. The awareness of the prevalence of occult coeliac disease is increasing due to simpler diagnostic tests, as is its significance as a cause of secondary osteoporosis. Knowing the relationship between these two conditions will help orthopaedic surgeons treating such patients to refer them promptly to appropriate specia

Athletes engaged in repetitive activity with recent increases in training or competition are at risk for stress fractures of the foot and ankle. Physical and radiographic findings are often unremarkable and diagnosis may be difficult. Although many of these injuries may be managed symptomatically, certain types of stress fractures are at higher risk for delayed union, nonunion, or refracture without aggressive immobilization or surgical fixation.

BACKGROUND: Navicular stress fractures of the foot often are difficult to diagnose and treat.
METHODS: Nineteen athletic patients seen from 1999 to 2003, were compared to a previously treated group of 22 athletes with similar injuries treated from 1994 to 1998. Based on the frontal plane CT images, a previously described classification system was used to assess the injury: type I dorsal cortical break; type II fracture extending into the navicular body; and type III fracture breaches two cortices. Nonoperative treatment was recommended for patients with type I injuries and open reduction and

Five women with stress fractures of the tibia with concomitant osteoarthritis of the knee were treated at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Lublin University of Medical Sciences between 1996 and 2001. The patients' age ranged from 57 to 78 years. Three fractures were located in the proximal part of the tibial shaft and 2 in the distal part of the tibial shaft. Two patients were unable to ambulate and 3 walked with crutches. In 2 cases the fracture healed after immobilisation in a walking cast for a period of 5 and 6 months respectively. Two cases with a concomitant varus o

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether metabolic bone disease plays a role in the cause of femoral neck stress fractures.
STUDY DESIGN: Twenty-three patients with femoral neck stress fractures were enrolled prospectively in the study. Examination included computed tomography bone densitometry, trace mineral analysis, and histomorphometric analysis of the iliac crest in thirteen patients who underwent surgical treatment of their stress fractures. A control group of fifteen patients undergoing iliac crest bone grafting for scaphoid nonunions underwent similar examinations.
SETTING: Tertiary military

Stress fractures of the lower extremity and sacrum occur in a variety of patients, ranging from young, healthy athletes to elderly persons with underlying illnesses. Knowledge of the activities and risk factors associated with these fractures may heighten clinical suspicion and help direct an appropriate evaluation. Diagnosis is usually based on characteristic features of the history and physical examination accompanied by radiologic findings. Bone scintigraphy remains the standard, but the specificity of computed tomography scanning or magnetic resonance imaging may be required to differentia

Stress fractures occur with strenuous activity and represent a unique and relatively rare traumatic entity. Their diagnosis is difficult and therapy accompanied with specific problems. The purpose of the presented study is to explain basic characteristics of stress fractures and to approximate possibility of diagnosis and treatment better. Out of 26 fractures, 22 (84.62%) were nondisplaced and managed by bed rest, non-weight bearing or plaster of Paris immobilization for eight to ten weeks. On the other hand, four primarily displaced fractures (15.38%) were successfully treated with rigid inte

This report discusses the first known reported case of bilateral pedicle stress fractures. The importance of early detection and appropriate therapy to promote early healing is emphasized. Bone scintigraphy with single photon emission CT is favored for initial evaluation with CT recommended to further evaluate areas of focal abnormal scintigraphic activity.

The posterior rings of the lower lumbo-sacral vertebrae are subject to stress fractures at any part - pedicle, pars, or lamina. The site of fracture is apparently determined by the axis of weight bearing. The three illustrative clinical examples cited include a jogger with a laminar fracture, a ballet dancer with pedicle fractures, and a nine-year-old boy with fractures of pars and lamina. Chronic low back pain is the typical complaint with stress fractures of the lower lumbo-sacral spine. Special imaging techniques are usually needed to demonstrate these lesions, including vertebral arch view

INTRODUCTION: The capitate is the largest, most central bone and the first to ossify in the wrist. It has a well-protected anatomic location, making traumatic or stress fractures extremely rare in clinical practice. Isolated fractures of the capitate bone are very uncommon and often without displacement due to the great stability provided by the intracarpal ligaments.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to report a case of isolated stress fracture of the capitate related to the work activity of a mechanic.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 23-year-old patient complaining of pain and sw

A case of bilateral pedicle stress fracture of L4 in a patient with osteoporotic compression fracture of L5 and without a history of major trauma or surgery is reported, and the literature is reviewed. Bilateral pedicle fracture is a rare entity and few cases have been reported in the literature. All reported cases had some underlying causative factors like previous spine surgery or stress related activities. To the best of the authors' knowledge, only one case of bilateral pedicle stress fracture without a history of trauma, previous spine surgery, or stress-related activities has been report
