We report three Egyptian boys from three different families born with penoscrotal transposition (PST). None of them fell into categories of known syndromes, associations, sequences or chromosome disorders. Other malformations observed included renal, genital, cardiovascular and limb defects. Diagnostic accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) interpretation was assessed prospectively in patients with ambiguous genitalia or intersex problems. We report on 23 patients with genital gunshot wounds treated since 1977. Of these 23 patients 16 received 1 shot and 7 received multiple shots. The bullet affected the scrotum in 12 patients, the penis in 4, and the penis and scrotum in the remaining 7. We report a case of a massive strawberry hemangioma involving the penis and scrotum of a neonate. The lesion and its minor complications (ulceration) were managed conservatively with an excellent outcome. A conservative approach should be strongly recommended in lesions of this type.

We present descriptive epidemiologic data on ambiguous genitalia (AG), obtained in the period 1967-1982 by the Latin American Collaborative Study of Congenital Malformations (ECLAMC) through 70 participating hospitals located in 34 cities of 9 South American countries. The observed prevalence rate for isolated AG was about 1/20,000 births, with at least 1/4 and probably as much as 1/2 due to congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
