Secondary prosthetic iris implantation following traumatic total aniridia and pseudophakia.

We present 2 pseudophakic patients who had traumatic episodes that resulted in total expulsion of the iris without disturbing the intraocular lens (IOL). Because of intolerable glare, each patient was managed by reopening the fibrosed capsular bag and implanting 2 multi-finned prosthetic iris devices through a small incision, leaving the IOL in place. Following surgery, glare was no longer present and excellent visual acuity was maintained. We believe these are the first pseudophakic patients with traumatic total aniridia to be managed by this approach.

Highly Transparent and Haze Passive Daytime Radiative Cooling Organosiloxane Coatings via a Controlled Microphase Separation Process.

Transparent building envelopes are valued for ample natural daylight, yet they face issues of glare, privacy concerns, and excessive solar heat gain. Existing anti-glare or radiative cooling coatings typically either reduce visible transmittance or fail to combine high haze with high infrared emissivity. We have developed a room-temperature-curing FPHS coating composed of polyethoxysiloxane (PEOS), hydroxyl silicone oil, and 3,3,3-(trifluoropropyl)trimethoxysilane (TTMS). Utilizing in-situ nanoparticle formation and microphase separation technology, this coating achieves a visible light transm

Intraocular lens correction of presbyopia.

The continued development of intraocular lens (IOL) technology has led to a dramatic improvement in refractive outcomes. New and innovative ways of achieving the desired postoperative refractive goals continue to be developed. This article aims to review the currently available IOL modalities for correction of presbyopia at the time of cataract surgery, including reference to high-quality comparative studies, where available, and discussion of strengths as well as limitations of the currently available IOL technologies. It has been shown that multifocal compared to monofocal IOL was associated

Effects of blue-violet light filtering and surface technologies on visual performance: a retrospective clinical comparison using daily silicone hydrogel contact lenses.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Blue-violet light-filtering daily contact lenses are becoming more popular as a way of addressing the visual challenges associated with prolonged exposure to digital screens and low-light environments. Optimising contrast sensitivity in such situations is important for visual comfort, functional performance and patient satisfaction, especially among individuals with high visual demands or frequent exposure to glare. BACKGROUND: Digital device use has increased exposure to short-wavelength light, contributing to visual fatigue and reduced contrast sensitivity. Blue-violet -

Contrast Sensitivity Function in Parkinson's Disease: Effects of Illumination and Disease Stage.

PURPOSE: Contrast sensitivity function (CSF) is a valuable tool for assessing visual function, which can be affected in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's Disease (PD). Visual perception in everyday life depends on the ability to detect objects across a wide range of spatial frequencies under different illumination conditions. However, the effect of disease progression and varying illumination on CSF in individuals with PD remains underexplored. The aim of this study was to investigate CSF in PD participants across six illumination conditions, examining disease stage influence and

Clinical Outcomes after Implantation of a Novel Binocular Complementary Extended Depth-of-Focus Intraocular Lens Compared to Bilateral Low Near-Add Multifocal Intraocular Lenses.

INTRODUCTION: Nowadays, patients expect to be less spectacle dependent at all distances after cataract surgery. However, all intraocular lens (IOL) models that currently offer this function can also have negative visual effects. Aim of this study was therefore to compare the visual function performance of a novel and a conventional IOL solution for multifocality. METHODS: Patients scheduled for bilateral cataract surgery were randomized to receive one of two different IOL combinations: either a binocular complementary extended depth-of-focus IOL set or a low near-add MIOL. Patients had visual

[Traffic Aspects in Glaucoma Patients].

Glaucomatous damage may lead to morphological and functional deficits. If these deficits affect both eyes, binocular visual field defects may result. If these field defects are in the areas which are most important for the car driver (centre and horizontal meridian) then the driver may no longer be able to participate actively in road traffic. Mesopic vision and sensitivity to glare may also be affected by glaucomatous damage. The most important point is that the patient is alert to problems in this area and he must be directed to possible ways of compensation, especially for mesopic vision an

Effectiveness of intraocular lenses designed to correct presbyopia after cataract surgery: an overview of systematic reviews.

This is an overview of systematic reviews to evaluate the visual outcomes of different presbyopia correcting intraocular lens (IOL), spectacle independence (SI), adverse visual effects and cost-effectiveness. Reviews were included if they compared presbyopia-correcting IOLs-such as multifocal (bifocal and trifocal), extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF), and accommodative and monofocal IOLs. The AMSTAR-2 tool was used. Primary outcomes were uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) and near visual acuity (UNVA). Secondary outcomes were SI, halos and glare, and cost-
