An automated gravitational system for delivery of low-viscosity media during continuous-flow hysteroscopy.

We constructed an automated gravitational system to control fluid dynamics during hysteroscopic operations. The new system allows linear regulation of intrauterine pressure by varying the flow by simply changing the height of the fluid-filled bag above the patient. The outflow from the automated gravitational system is also driven by gravity. Between January 1994 and June 1995 we performed 88 hysteroscopic operations: 10 myomectomies, 8 endometrial ablations, 3 polypectomies, 3 lysis of synechiae, and 64 transcervical metroplasties. With the Vario Flow system we obtained good visualization, an

[Effect of weightlessness and artificial gravitation on morphological manifestations of the adrenal cortex reaction in rats after space flight on board the biosatellite "Cosmos-936"].

Comparing the changes revealed in the adrenals of rats subjected to weightlessness and artificial gravitation, it has been stated that rotation of the animals in the centrifuge, while flying (with an acceleration of lg), prevents development of morphological stress reaction as a response to landing. After the effect of weightlessness, return to normal gravitation is accompanied with definite signs of an acute stress-reaction in the rat adrenal cortex. Differences in the adrenal reaction of the animals of the groups compared speak in favour of the fact that application of artificial gravitation

Effect of short-term gravitational changes on the human minor salivary gland stem cell characteristics.

OBJECTIVES: Human minor salivary gland stem cells (huMSGSCs) are promising in regenerative medicine. Their multipotent capabilities enable tissue regeneration and offer treatment potential for various diseases. The effects of hypergravity (HyperG) and microgravity (MicroG) on stemness and therapeutic potential are not well explored. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of short-term HyperG and MicroG exposure on huMSGSC stemness and differentiation potential for treating salivary gland dysfunction. METHODS: huMSGSCs were exposed to 1G, MicroG, and HyperG. Cell morphology, proliferat

Sensor Head Temperature Distribution Reconstruction of High-Precision Gravitational Reference Sensors with Machine Learning.

Temperature fluctuations affect the performance of high-precision gravitational reference sensors. Due to the limited space and the complex interrelations among sensors, it is not feasible to directly measure the temperatures of sensor heads using temperature sensors. Hence, a high-accuracy interpolation method is essential for reconstructing the surface temperature of sensor heads. In this study, we utilized XGBoost-LSTM for sensor head temperature reconstruction, and we analyzed the performance of this method under two simulation scenarios: ground-based and on-orbit. The findings demonstrate

Modeling and optimization of a modified iron-yoked electromagnetic propulsion system using the gravitational search algorithm.

Potential uses for electromagnetic launchers in defense systems, space exploration, and transportation have recently emerged. In addition, this accelerator has many applications, such as deploying small satellites into low-earth orbit and accelerating high-speed trains (e.g., bullet trains and Hyperloop) with a low-cost propulsion system instead of expensive linear motors, particularly in space applications. Therefore, the full capability and optimization of these launchers' efficiency are still required. Therefore, this paper focuses on presenting a new design to decrease the coil's magnetic

Understanding vestibular-related physiological functions could provide clues on adapting to a new gravitational environment.

The peripheral vestibular organs are sensors for linear acceleration (gravity and head tilt) and rotation. Further, they regulate various body functions, including body stability, ocular movement, autonomic nerve activity, arterial pressure, body temperature, and muscle and bone metabolism. The gravitational environment influences these functions given the highly plastic responsiveness of the vestibular system. This review demonstrates that hypergravity or microgravity induces changes in vestibular-related physiological functions, including arterial pressure, muscle and bone metabolism, feedin

Optimized surgical treatment for normal pressure hydrocephalus: comparison between gravitational and differential pressure valves.

OBJECTIVES: In idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt insertion is the method of choice to improve cardinal symptoms such as gait disturbance, urge incontinence and/or dementia. With reduced compliance, the brain of the elderly is prone for overdrainage complications. This was especially true with the use of differential pressure valve implantation. The present study compares clinical outcome and complication rates after VP shunt insertion with differential pressure valves in the early years and gravitational valves since 2005. METHODS: The authors revi

A dynamic multibody model of the physiological knee to predict internal loads during movement in gravitational field.

Obtaining tibio-femoral (TF) contact forces, ligament deformations and loads during daily life motor tasks would be useful to better understand the aetiopathogenesis of knee joint diseases or the effects of ligament reconstruction and knee arthroplasty. However, methods to obtain this information are either too simplified or too computationally demanding to be used for clinical application. A multibody dynamic model of the lower limb reproducing knee joint contact surfaces and ligaments was developed on the basis of magnetic resonance imaging. Several clinically relevant conditions were simula

Pineal gland as an endocrine gravitational lunasensor: manifestation of moon-phase dependent morphological changes in mice.

We found that some morphological properties of the pineal gland and submandibular salivary gland of mice are significantly distinct at the new and full moon. We suppose that the differences are initiated by the displacements of the electron-dense concretions in the secretory vesicles of pinealocytes. This presumably occurs under the influence of the gravitational field, which periodically changes during different phases of the moon. It seems that the pinealocyte is both an endocrine and gravisensory cell. A periodic secretion of the pineal gland probably stimulates, in a lunaphasic mode, the n

Indications for valve-pressure adjustments of gravitational assisted valves in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus.

BACKGROUND: Modern ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPS) are programmable, which enables clinicians to adjust valve-pressure according to their patients' individual needs. The aim of this retrospective analysis is to evaluate indications for valve-pressure adjustments in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH). METHODS: Patients operated between 2004 and 2011 diagnosed with iNPH were included. Kiefer-Scale was used to classify each patient. Follow-up exams were conducted 3, 6, and 12 months after shunt implantation and yearly thereafter. Initial valve-pressure was 100 or 70 mmH2O. Planned

Gravity-awareness: a deep learning and LLM framework for predicting human adaptation to altered gravitational environments.

Earth's gravity fundamentally shapes human behavior. The brain encodes this force as an internal model of gravity, enabling the prediction and interpretation of gravitational effects during perception and action. Understanding how this model adapts to altered gravity is critical for predicting human performance in spaceflight. We present a computational framework for modelling neurophysiological adaptation across diverse gravitational environments. The framework has two components trained on open-access data from altered-gravity studies, particularly parabolic flights. The first component (Cor

Analysis of Velocity Profiles and Power Prediction for Single-Stage Gravitational Vortex Water Turbine (GVWT).

The gravitational vortex water turbine (GVWT) is a promising technology for low-head hydropower applications; however, its internal flow structure and hydrodynamic basis for multistage runner placement remain insufficiently understood. A GVWT primarily consists of an inlet channel, vortex-forming basin, and runner installed within the vortex-forming basin. This study focuses on the inlet-channel notch angle configuration and its influence on the conical basin flow field, single-stage power prediction, and residual flow criteria for second-stage runner placement. This study investigated the vel

Flow-driven biomarker movement in gravitational sewers for wastewater-based epidemiology and public health monitoring.

The movement of biological (genetic viral, fungal or bacterial) and chemical indicators (BCIs) within sewer networks is critical to wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) enabling accurate calculation of chemical and pathogen loads within a community. These quantified BCIs, which include genetic material from pathogens as well as pharmaceuticals, from a range of classes, serve as proxies for community-wide health and behaviour patterns. However, a critical knowledge gap exists in understanding how different BCIs move within complex sewer systems, which could lead to misinterpretation of community

Development and analysis of two-dimensional point-ahead angle mechanism for space gravitational-wave detection.

To detect low-frequency gravitational waves, it is necessary to eliminate the interference of geo-noise and build a laser interference gravitational-wave detection device in space. Space gravitational-wave detection missions, namely Taiji, LISA, and Tianqin, have been planning to achieve picometer sensitivity on an interferometer arm of several million kilometers to meet the gravitational-wave detection requirements. Because of the orbit evolution and the time delay in interferometer arms, the direction of the transmitted laser beam changes; consequently, a remote telescope cannot receive the

Gravitational Raman Scattering in Effective Field Theory: A Scalar Tidal Matching at O(G^{3}).

We present a framework to compute amplitudes for the gravitational analog of the Raman process, a quasielastic scattering of waves off compact objects, in worldline effective field theory. As an example, we calculate third post-Minkowskian order [O(G^{3})], or two-loop, phase shifts for the scattering of a massless scalar field including all tidal effects and dissipation. Our calculation unveils two sources of the classical renormalization-group flow of dynamical Love numbers: a universal running independent of the nature of the compact object, and a running self-induced by tides. Restricting

Automation of finding strong gravitational lenses in the Kilo Degree Survey with U - DenseLens (DenseLens  + Segmentation).

In the context of upcoming large-scale surveys like Euclid, the necessity for the automation of strong lens detection is essential. While existing machine learning pipelines heavily rely on the classification probability (P), this study intends to address the importance of integrating additional metrics, such as Information Content (IC) and the number of pixels above the segmentation threshold ([Formula: see text]), to alleviate the false positive rate in unbalanced data-sets. In this work, we introduce a segmentation algorithm (U-Net) as a supplementary step in the established strong gravitat

Considerations in the Use of Gravitational Valves in the Management of Hydrocephalus. Some Lessons Learned with the Dual-Switch Valve.

In the past decade, there has been a clear trend towards better outcomes in patients with hydrocephalus, especially those with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). This is partly due to the availability of more sophisticated hardware and a better understanding of implants. However, there is little evidence to show the superiority of a specific type of valve over another. The most commonly reported consequence of hydrodynamic mismatch is shunt over-drainage. Simple differential pressure valves, with a fixed opening pressure or even adjustable valves, lead to non-physiologic intraventricular pre
