Assessing the Capacity of Health Facilities to Deliver Concomitant HPV Vaccination and HPV-Based Cervical Screening Services to Vulnerable Populations - An Implementation Research Protocol.

IntroductionIn Europe, cervical cancer (CC) is the third most common gynaecologic cancer, and the second among women under the age of 45. CC screening uptake is highly variable across the region, and especially low among vulnerable groups.Current evidence suggests that HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination benefits women beyond traditional adolescent vaccination age groups, and so the HPV-FASTER approach has been proposed as a strategy to accelerate the elimination of CC in Europe. The HPV-FASTER-Implement implementation research project aims to evaluate strategies that integrate HPV-based s

Depression and psychological trauma: an overview integrating current research and specific evidence of studies in the treatment of depression in public mental health services in chile.

In the last two decades, different research has demonstrated the high prevalence of childhood trauma, including sexual abuse, among depressive women. These findings are associated with a complex, severe, and chronic psychopathology. This can be explained considering the neurobiological changes secondary to early trauma that can provoke a neuroendocrine failure to compensate in response to challenge. It suggests the existence of a distinguishable clinical-neurobiological subtype of depression as a function of childhood trauma that requires specific treatments. Among women with depression and ea

Clinical health service research on single-incision laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery: results of 1,170 patients in a 7-year registry analysis.

BACKGROUND: The clinical impact of single-incision laparoscopic surgery for the colon and rectum remains unclear despite its undeniable advantages. The European Association for Endoscopic Surgery consensus statement in 2019 highlights limitations concerning body mass index, tumor size, and previous surgery based on randomized studies, but many patients fall outside the recommended European Association for Endoscopic Surgery limits. Our study aimed to analyze patient care in routine clinical practice beyond randomized trials to assess its real-world relevance. The development of new robotic pla

Compensation and reparations for victims and bystanders of the U.S. Public Health Service research studies in Tuskegee and Guatemala: Who do we owe what?

Using the infamous research studies in Tuskegee and Guatemala, the article examines the difference between victims and bystanders. The victims can include families, sexual partners, and children not just the participants. There are also the bystanders in the populations who are affected, even vaguely, decades after the initial studies took place. Differing reparations for victims and bystanders through lawsuits and historical acknowledgments has to be part of broader discussions of historical justice, and the weighing of the impact of racism and imperial research endeavors.

Effectiveness and efficiency of an 11-week exercise intervention for patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis: a protocol for a controlled study in the context of health services research.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis is the most common reason for pain in older adults, and the individual and economic burden of this disease is immense. The chronic character of osteoarthritis requires a long-term therapeutic treatment. In this regard life-style interventions such as physical exercises that can be carried out by the patient himself are recommended as first line treatment. There is evidence for the short-term benefit of exercise therapy in terms of pain reduction and physical functioning. Nonetheless research agendas highlight the need for multifaceted interventions that incorporate e

Assessing the quality of the care offer for people with personality disorders in Italy: the QUADIM project. A multicentre research based on the database of use of Mental Health services.

BACKGROUND: Italy can be viewed as a laboratory to assess the quality of mental healthcare delivered in a community-oriented system, especially for severe mental disorders, such as personality disorders. Although initiatives based on clinical indicators for assessing the quality of mental healthcare have been developed by transnational-organisations, there is still no widespread practice of measuring the quality of care pathways delivered to patients with severe mental disorders in a community-oriented system, especially using administrative healthcare databases. The aim of the study is to eva

Improving recruitment to healthcare research studies: clinician judgements explored for opting mental health service users out of the time to change viewpoint survey.

BACKGROUND: There are significant challenges across the research pathway, including participant recruitment. This paper aims to explore the impact of clinician recruitment decision-making on sampling for a national mental health survey. METHOD: Clinical teams in 20 English mental healthcare provider organisations screened caseload lists, opting-out people whom, in their judgement, should not be approached to participate in a survey about stigma and discrimination. The reasons for each individual opted-out were requested. We assess these reasons against study recruitment criteria and investiga

Pelvic inflammatory disease: identifying research gaps--proceedings of a workshop sponsored by Department of Health and Human Services/National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, November 3-4, 2011.

In November 2011, the National Institutes of Health convened a workshop of basic researchers, epidemiologists, and clinical experts in pelvic inflammatory disease to identify research gaps hindering advances in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. This article summarizes the presentations, discussions, and conclusions of this group and highlights significant controversies that reveal aspects of pelvic inflammatory disease research that would most greatly benefit from the application of newer molecular, immunologic, and radiologic techniques. Multiple limitations to performing new clinical tri

The effect among older persons of a general preventive visit on three health behaviors: smoking, excessive alcohol drinking, and sedentary lifestyle. The Medicare Preventive Services Research Team.

BACKGROUND: The U.S. Congress mandated evaluations, initiated in 1989, to determine whether extending Medicare benefits to include preventive services would improve health status, reduce costs of care, and improve health risk behaviors of beneficiaries. METHODS: The Johns Hopkins Medicare Preventive Services Demonstration was a randomized trial in which Medicare beneficiaries were assigned either to an intervention group that was offered yearly preventive visits for 2 years and optional counseling visits to their primary care provider or to a control group that received usual care. Implementing shared care models for young people with mental health difficulties: a consolidated framework for implementation research- informed scoping review of service integration across physical, sexual and mental health domains.

BACKGROUND: Most mental health difficulties (MHD) emerge during adolescence and early adulthood, placing young people at an increased risk for co-occurring physical and sexual health challenges. Shared models of care (SMOC) to connect specialist mental health care with physical and/or sexual health have been developed to address these health needs among young people with MHD. We aimed to identify and characterise SMOC that integrate physical and/or sexual healthcare for young people with MHD, and to synthesise SMOC implementation determinants using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation
