Lost in Transition: Health Care Experiences of Adults Born Very Preterm-A Qualitative Approach.

Introduction: Adults Born Very Preterm (ABP) are an underperceived but steadily increasing patient population. It has been shown that they face multiple physical, mental and emotional health problems as they age. Very little is known about their specific health care needs beyond childhood and adolescence. This article focuses on their personal perspectives: it explores how they feel embedded in established health care structures and points to health care-related barriers they face. Methods: We conducted 20 individual in-depth interviews with adults born preterm aged 20-54 years with a gestatio

Symposium review: Nutrition strategies for improved health, production, and fertility during the transition period.

Dairy cow nutritional programs are a major determinant of the profitability of dairy farms. Despite this, the sustainability of the dairy enterprise is beyond just cow nutrition. For almost 50 yr, the NC-2042 project (Management Systems to Improve the Economic and Environmental Sustainability of Dairy Enterprises) has been addressing most of these components as individual research units and in integrated ways. This review has the objective to report the body of research developed by members of the group in connection with the existing literature on dietary formulation and feeding management du

Trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder among transition-age youth with serious mental health conditions.

There is little information on trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and associated risk factors in transition-age youth with mental health conditions. This study aimed at understanding the correlates and predictors of PTSD in 84 transition-age youth, between 16 and 21 years old, residing in supported community housing. Chi-square analyses and t tests were used to compare youth with a diagnosis of PTSD to those without a PTSD diagnosis. Stepwise logistic regression analyses were performed to identify unique predictors of PTSD. Of the 84 individuals, 79 (94%) reported a history of traum

Transition from military to VHA care: psychiatric health services for Iraq/Afghanistan combat-wounded.

OBJECTIVE: Veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (OEF/OIF) report high rates of mental distress especially affective disorders. Ensuring continuity of care across institutions is a priority for both the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), yet this process is not monitored nor are medical records integrated. This study assessed transition from DoD to VHA and subsequent psychiatric care of service members traumatically injured in OEF/OIF. METHODS: Inpatients at a DoD trauma treatment facility discharged in FY02-FY06 (n=994) were tracked into the VH

Social Trust Profile Transitions and Health-Seeking Behavior: A Latent Transition Analysis of Three-Wave Panel Data from China.

Social trust is increasingly recognized as a psychosocial determinant of health service utilization, yet most studies treat trust as a unidimensional, static variable. This study examines how multidimensional trust configurations evolve over time and whether distinct profiles are associated with subsequent health-seeking behavior. Data were drawn from three waves (2018, 2020, 2022) of the China Family Panel Studies (N = 12,216). Latent profile analysis identified trust configurations based on four indicators (trust in neighbors, strangers, government officials, and doctors), and a three-wave l

Digital Health Coaching Programs Among Older Employees in Transition to Retirement: Systematic Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: The rapid increase of the aging population is pushing many national governments to reshape retirement legislation in order to extend older adults' working life. Once retired, older adults can be invaluable resources for the community as family carers, as volunteers, or by returning to work. Healthy aging is one of the main conditions for being able to work longer and being active after retirement. The latter, indeed, represents a very sensitive life transition, which can entail psychological and social difficulties. Interventions for promoting older workers' health and well-being a

Obstetric transition in the World Health Organization Multicountry Survey on Maternal and Newborn Health: exploring pathways for maternal mortality reduction.

OBJECTIVE: To test whether the proposed features of the Obstetric Transition Model-a theoretical framework that may explain gradual changes that countries experience as they eliminate avoidable maternal mortality-are observed in a large, multicountry, maternal and perinatal health database; and to discuss the dynamic process of maternal mortality reduction using this model as a theoretical framework. METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional study by the World Health Organization that collected information on more than 300 000 women who delivered in 359 health facilities in

Short-term transitions in health-promoting lifestyle profiles following first-time percutaneous coronary intervention: a latent profile transition analysis.

BACKGROUND: Maintaining a health-promoting lifestyle is essential for long-term cardiovascular risk management in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, how lifestyle behaviors change before and after first-time PCI, and which factors are associated with these changes, remain insufficiently understood. AIMS: This study aimed to identify patterns and short-term transitions in health-promoting lifestyle behaviors before and after first-time PCI in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS: This was a prospective longitudinal study with a 6-month follow

Epigenetic clocks moderate the impact of marital status transitions on health in older adults.

Chronological age is commonly used to study aging, but biological aging may more accurately reflect cumulative life experiences and psychosocial stressors. This study examines whether epigenetic clocks function as markers of resilience by assessing how marital status transitions are associated with biological aging and health outcomes in later life. Using data from 1,654 non-Hispanic White participants in the Health and Retirement Study, we analyzed thirteen epigenetic clocks derived from DNA methylation profiles. Ordinary least squares and Cox regression models assessed the associations betwe

Improving Cardiovascular Clinical Competencies for the Menopausal Transition: A Focus on Cardiometabolic Health in Midlife.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in women with an increase in risk after menopause. Over the past 20 years, longitudinal studies have helped differentiate the influence of chronological aging from ovarian aging on cardiovascular health. In addition to the pronounced sex hormone changes of the menopause transition (MT), the MT is also often accompanied by vasomotor symptoms, sleep problems, and mental health changes that impact women's cardiovascular health. The purpose of this invited review is to highlight the key changes that can alter CVD risk. Given the gaps in me

Navigating mental health challenges in international university students: adapting to life transitions.

Change is an inevitable part of life yet navigating it can be challenging. Students transitioning from school to higher education encounter unique stressors that can significantly impact their mental health. International students face compounded difficulties as they adapt to life abroad, often for the first time, without immediate support from family and friends. This transition introduces independent living, which demands new responsibilities such as managing finances, academics, and personal well-being-tasks that are frequently underestimated. These challenges are exacerbated by cultural ad

Health in Transit: A case study on the migratory trajectories of Haitian populations in Chile and Mexico.

Current migration journeys often involve crossing several borders, exposing migrants to numerous difficulties and dangers. This article qualitatively describes the migrant trajectories of twenty-five Haitian migrants who intended to travel from Chile to Mexico in an attempt to cross into the United States, delving into the dynamic physical and mental health outcomes at different phases of their journey. Our findings reveal that Haitian participants began their journeys in a context of instability, violence, insecurity, and precariousness from their country of origin, and factors such as stress

Health services' responses to transitioning adolescents to adult HIV care in South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) aged 10-19 years account for 1.7 million globally, with 82% residing in sub-Saharan Africa. Older adolescents (15-19 years) assume greater responsibility for their own care, often leading to reduced adherence, lower retention, and poorer health outcomes. Understanding the role of healthcare workers (HCWs), key stakeholders in the HIV care continuum, is essential to strengthening transition practices and health system responses. AIM: To describe HCWs' perspectives on transition practices for adolescents living with HIV in t
