Maternal satisfaction with the quality of post-abortion care in Ethiopia at teaching hospitals of Amhara regional state by 2023.

BACKGROUND: Every year, complications from abortion cause millions of women's serious injuries and over 47,000 deaths globally. While many regions of Sub-Saharan Africa restrict access to safe abortion procedures, Ethiopia's government is attempting to address maternal morbidity and mortality associated with abortion by offering post-abortion care services to all women. The primary determinant of the quality of health treatment is thought to be client satisfaction. Services for post-abortion are still lacking and disregarded in Ethiopia's contemporary healthcare system. Thus, this study's main

Determinants of unsuccessful tuberculosis treatment outcome in Southwest Ethiopia regional state public hospitals, 2022: a multi-center case control study.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis is the major cause of morbidity, and it is one of the top ten causes of death globally. In Africa, the overall pooled estimate of unsuccessful tuberculosis treatment outcome was reported to be 21.1%, which is above the World Health Organization defined threshold of 15%. Unsuccessful treatment outcomes result in drug resistance, prolonged periods of infection, and increased morbidity and mortality. Therefore, this study aimed to assess determinants of unsuccessful treatment outcomes among tuberculosis patients in Southwest Ethiopia regional state public hospitals, in 20

In-Hospital Sequelae of Injurious Falls in 24 Medical/Surgical Units in Four Hospitals in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Up to 50% of patient falls in the hospital result in injury. This study was conducted to determine whether injurious falls were associated with increased hospital length of stay (LOS), discharge to a place other than home, and in-hospital mortality. METHODS: A secondary data analysis from a prospective case-control study was conducted in 24 medical/surgical units in four hospitals in the United States. Patients who fell and sustained an injury were matched with at least one control patient who was on the same unit, at the same time, for a similar number of days on the unit at the

Hospital Outcomes Among COVID-19 Hospitalizations With Myocarditis from the California State Inpatient Database.

Many case reports have indicated that myocarditis could be a prognostic factor for predicting morbidity and mortality among patients with COVID-19. In this study, using a large database we examined the association between myocarditis among COVID-19 hospitalizations and in-hospital mortality and other adverse hospital outcomes. The present study was a retrospective analysis of data collected in the California State Inpatient Database during 2020. All hospitalizations for COVID-19 were included in the analysis and grouped into those with and without myocarditis. The outcomes were in-hospital mor

Comparison of In-Hospital Maternal Mortality Between Hospital Systems in Queensland, Australia and Louisiana, United States.

BACKGROUND: It is well documented that the American maternal mortality ratio has increased during the years 2000-2015. The Australian maternal mortality ratio, in contrast, has decreased during the same time period, a trend common among most Western countries. METHODS: This study was a retrospective cohort study of cases of in-hospital maternal deaths in the Ochsner Health System (Louisiana, United States) and the Queensland Health System (Australia) from 1995 to 2013. The aim was to determine if American and Australian women have a similar rate of preventable maternal death and if the deaths

Hospitalization risk with and without dementia by region and race in the United States.

Understanding regional and racial variation in the risk of hospitalization with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD)-and how it differs from other conditions-is required to inform effective practice and policy. However, no prior studies have simultaneously estimated county-level regional and race-specific variation in hospitalization risk. We assessed hospitalizations with and without ADRD diagnoses among Black and White Medicare Fee-for-Service beneficiaries from 2000 to 2018 and used Bayesian shared component models to estimate geographic variation in hospitalizations jointly for
