A review of the current literature on evidence-based violence prevention programs developed for individuals with an intellectual disability (ID) reveals a paucity of direct evidence for this population. In addition, the existing offence-specific programs are primarily grounded in adapted cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) programs designed for the mainstream offender population, which may not be suitable for offenders with co-morbid mental health and personality disorders. The current paper discusses the development of a violence rehabilitation program for offenders with an ID. The focus of the

OBJECTIVES: Survivors of head and neck cancer (HNC) are at high risk for developing lymphedema and fibrosis (LEF). Once diagnosed with LEF, survivors must engage in a lifelong program of self-care to minimize long-term adverse effects. However, evidence-based LEF self-management (SM) programs are lacking. To fill this void, we developed and pilot-tested a LEF-SM program for HNC survivors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The LEF-SM Program was developed using the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills model of health behavior change as a framework. The program was pilot tested in a three-group random

BACKGROUND: Increased preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake among black men who have sex with men and black transgender women (BMSM/TW) is needed to end the HIV epidemic. Embedding a brief intervention in network services that engage individuals in HIV transmission networks for HIV/ sexually transmitted infections testing may be an important strategy to accelerate PrEP uptake.
SETTING: Partner Services PrEP study is a pilot, randomized, control trial to improve linkage to PrEP care among BMSM/TW presenting for network services in Chicago, IL, from 2015 to 2017.
METHODS: BMSM/TW (N = 146) age

The impact of intensive lifestyle interventions on appetite regulation and binge eating in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains unclear. This study evaluated the effects of combined lifestyle interventions on appetite responses and binge eating in overweight or obese adults with T2D. In a randomized trial, 120 participants with T2D were allocated to three groups (n = 40 each): (1) Calorie-carbohydrate restriction (CCR), (2) Time-restricted eating with CCR (TRE + CCR), or (3) Control. Intervention groups received structured exercise and behavioral education based on the Information-Mo

BACKGROUND: While previous researchers have explored self-management in populations with diabetes, few have focused on the unique challenges faced by low income patients.
PURPOSE: To address this gap in knowledge, we aimed to develop a predictive model based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioral skills model, identifying key factors influencing self-management and health-related quality of life among low-income patients with diabetes. While previous researchers have explored self-management in populations with diabetes, limited numbers have focused on the unique challenges faced by low-inc

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization reported that 80% of new HIV diagnoses in Europe in 2014 occurred in Central and Eastern Europe. Romania has a particularly high HIV incidence, AIDS prevalence, and number of related deaths. HIV incidence in Romania is largely attributed to sexual contact among gay and bisexual men. However, homophobic stigma in Romania serves as a risk factor for HIV infection for gay and bisexual men. The Comunică intervention aims to provide a much-needed HIV risk reduction strategy, and it entails the delivery of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral t

In humans, frontal lesions result in deficits of social and emotional behavior that are often surprising in the presence of intact language and other cognitive skills. The connections between the motivation and memory functions of limbic cortex and the motor planning functions of frontal neocortex must be fundamental to meeting the daily challenges of self-regulation. The connectional architecture of limbic and neocortical networks suggests a model of function. The densely interconnected paralimbic cortices may serve to maintain a global motivational context within which specific actions are a

BACKGROUND: South Asian American gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) experience multiple minority stressors, such as internalized homophobia, racial prejudice, and homonegative discrimination, thereby elevating their risk of HIV. Due to the scarcity of HIV scientific literature focusing on South Asian American GBM, little is known about their use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or the upstream factors influencing its uptake.
OBJECTIVE: This study seeks to address this gap by describing PrEP use history among South Asian American GBM and comparing PrEP users and nonuser

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programs for hepatitis B virus (HBV) are critical to reach the World Health Organization's 2030 HBV elimination goals. Despite demonstrated feasibility utilizing HIV infrastructure, HBV PMTCT programs are not implemented in many African settings, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In a previous pilot of HBV PMTCT implementation in DRC's capital, Kinshasa, we observed low TDF metabolite levels at delivery among women with high-risk HBV who were given tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) antiviral therapy. As such, we conducted

BACKGROUND: Adolescents living with HIV experience persistent challenges in achieving optimal adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), threatening viral suppression and long-term treatment success. In sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia, developmental transitions, limited resources, and socio-cultural factors further complicate adherence. This study aims to develop and validate a model of antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence determinants among Ethiopian adolescents living with HIV by extending the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model through the integration of HIV-relate

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV (WLWH) face unique reproductive health (RH) barriers which increase their risks of unmet need for contraception, contraceptive failure, unintended pregnancy, and pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality and may prevent them from achieving their reproductive goals. Patient-centered counseling interventions that support health care workers (HCWs) in providing high-quality RH counseling, tailored to the needs of WLWH, may improve reproductive health outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Deformational plagiocephaly can be prevented in many healthy infants if strategies are implemented early after birth. However, despite efforts to disseminate accurate information, parental adherence to evidence-based prevention strategies is a challenge. To date, factors - barriers and facilitators - influencing parental adherence to strategies have yet to be identified in a comprehensive manner.
OBJECTIVES: This scoping review aims to identify and synthesize current evidence on barriers and facilitators impacting adherence of parents of newborns to deformational plagiocephaly pre

OBJECTIVES: To show how people with cancer, including those with advanced breast cancer, engage with information and self-management and how cancer nurses can support patients to manage important aspects of care. Epstein and Street's patient-centered communication in cancer care (PCC) model provides a useful framework. The model incorporates six domains representing core mediating functions of patient-centered communication (Fostering healing relationships, Exchanging information, Responding to emotions, Managing uncertainty, Making decisions, and Enabling self-management) and additional moder

OBJECTIVE: Physical activity (PA) is critical for mitigating cardiovascular disease risk during the menopause transition, yet participation often declines during this life stage. This study applied the Behavior Change Wheel (BCW), a comprehensive framework for designing evidence-based interventions, to identify determinants of PA and develop tailored strategies to support women in meeting UK PA guidelines.
METHODS: We conducted a behavioral diagnosis by integrating primary data from three focus groups with perimenopausal and postmenopausal women (n=14, 51.5±2.2 years) and findings from six qu

This study evaluates the impact of an information-motivation-behavioral skills model (IMB model) health education intervention combined with feedback on rehabilitation outcomes for ischemic stroke patients with hemiplegia, targeting improvements in motor function, psychological state, disease awareness, and quality of life. A total of 152 ischemic stroke patients with hemiplegia were divided into an experimental group receiving the IMB-based intervention and a control group receiving standard education. Both interventions lasted 3 months. Rehabilitation outcomes were measured using indicators

CONTEXT: Substance use interventions for methamphetamine-using men who have sex with men (MSM) are limited by the assumption that they are a uniform group. We hypothesized that an LCA would identify distinct patterns of substance use and demographic and psychosocial variables associated with different substance-using groups would aid in understanding distinctions. Using cross-sectional data from 343 methamphetamine-using MSM, we conducted an LCA to model the patterns of polysubstance use then examined how the classes varied on psychosocial variables defined by the Information-Motivation-Behavi

IMPORTANCE: Literacy has been described as an important social determinant of health. Its components emerge in infancy and are dependent on genetic, medical, and environmental factors. The American Academy of Pediatrics advocates a substantial role for pediatricians in literacy promotion, developmental surveillance, and school readiness to promote cognitive, relational, and brain development. Many children, especially those from minority and underserved households, enter kindergarten unprepared to learn to read and subsequently have difficulty in school.
OBSERVATIONS: Emergent literacy is a d
