Vertical ridge augmentation using titanium mesh.

With tooth loss, there is increased bone loss of the alveolus. In some cases alveolar bone loss can be severe. Severe bone loss may cause difficulty for patients wearing a conventional prosthesis or being restored with dental implants. Severe alveolar bone loss can result in malnutrition, poor self-esteem, multiple dental visits for failed prosthesis, and jaw fracture. In many cases, patients with loss of alveolar bone height or width may require reconstructive procedures. Vertical ridge augmentation remains a challenge in the reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla and mandible. The main probl

Orthodontics. Provisional restorations and appliances.

Critical to optimal patient care is the proper sequencing of treatment for the integration of multidisciplinary procedures in solution of dental problems. Provisional restorations and appliances play a particularly critical role in management of adult mutilated or periodontally involved dentitions. They also play an important role for young patients with teeth lost through trauma or that are congenitally missing and require orthodontic therapy. Many restorative and periodontal problems cannot be corrected without orthodontic preparation of the dentition. Because orthodontic therapy is used to

The challenge of managing patients with generalized short root anomaly: A case report.

The case of an 18-year-old woman with generalized short root anomaly (SRA) is presented, and the clinical management and challenges associated with this rare condition are discussed. The patient was referred for restoration of the edentulous maxillary left anterior region. Due to the SRA, the patient had previously received limited orthodontic treatment for the ectopic maxillary canines. The maxillary left canine failed during orthodontic traction, the left lateral incisor migrated in its region and had poor prognosis due to severe mobility. Therefore, it was extracted and the region was resto

Maxillary bone growth and implant positioning in a young patient: a case report.

The literature supports the efficacy of osseointegrated implants for partially edentulous patients, but care must be exercised in adolescents with incomplete bone formation. Implants do not follow the normal growth of the jaws, and they behave like ankylosed teeth. They may also interfere with the normal growth of the alveolar process and jeopardize the germs of the adjacent permanent teeth or alter eruption. This case report analyzes the unfavorable clinical and radiographic findings of a single-tooth replacement in a young male over a 15-year period.

Merging Mandibular Virtual Datasets in Partially Edentulous Patients with a High Level of Scattering on CBCT Scans: A Technical Report.

Digital implant planning-utilizing the convergence of digital surface scanners, CBCT scans, and advanced planning software-has transformed dental implantology. The merging of these datasets through triangulation of landmarks provides a detailed digital model of the dental arches, facilitating precise implant positioning in edentulous areas. A critical step in this digital workflow is the accurate merging of DICOM files with .STL/.PLY/.OBJ files, which underpins the design and fabrication of surgical templates for accurate implant placement. Errors in this phase can lead to implant mispositioni

A 45-year-old woman presented with a lack of interimplant papilla after a partially edentulous ante-rior area was rehabilitated with dental implants. The soft tissue phenotype and interimplant papilla were augmented using the 'iceberg' connective tissue graft (iCTG), followed by a second surgical procedure wherein a strip gingival graft was combined with a CTG inserted underneath a pouch prepared into the previous iCTG at the level of the crest (the garage approach), further enhancing soft tissue volume in that region. This technique aims to improve mucosal thickness and supra- crestal tissue

Fixed Implant Supported Rehabilitation of Partially Edentulous Posterior Maxilla in a Patient With Systemic Scleroderma: A Case Report.

Systemic Scleroderma (SSc) is an autoimmune disease that affects connective tissue, resulting in hardening skin, reduced vascular perfusion, gingival fibrosis, enlarged periodontal ligament, xerostomia, and trigeminal neuralgia. Secondary effects, including reduced oral opening and reduced manual dexterity may exacerbate the primary effects. Severe bone loss and premature tooth loss are common eventualities of SSc. Removable prosthetics can be a tedious option for these patients as the progression of the disease often leads to the impossibility of obtaining minimal standards of care, including

Interventions for replacing missing teeth: augmentation procedures of the maxillary sinus.

BACKGROUND: Insufficient bone volume is a common problem encountered in the rehabilitation of the edentulous posterior maxillae with implant-supported prostheses. Bone volume is limited by the presence of the maxillary sinus together with loss of alveolar bone height. Sinus lift procedures increase bone volume by augmenting the sinus cavity with autogenous bone and/or commercially available biomaterials. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether and when augmentation of the maxillary sinus are necessary and which are the most effective augmentation techniques for rehabilitating patients with implant-s

Prosthodontic rehabilitation for a patient with acromegaly.

Acromegaly is a condition which results from an excess of growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland after epiphyseal plate closure at puberty. The most common cause of acromegaly is a benign pituitary adenoma. Acromegaly is characterised by enlargement of the hands, feet, nose and ears; expansion of the skull and pronounced brow protrusion. From an oral standpoint, the most relevant symptoms are mandibular protrusion, spacing of the lower teeth and macroglossia. A 46 year-old patient was referred to University Dental School and Hospital by her General Dental Practitioner. The patient had
