OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical manifestation, pathological characteristics, treatment and prognosis of dendritic cell tumor.
METHOD: Four cases of nasal and pharyngeal dendritic cell tumor were described, including two cases of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS), one case of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and one case of Langer hans cell sarcoma (LCS). One of the patients with FDCS received multimodality therapy (surgery combined with chemotherapy), and the other patient only received chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The patients with LCH or LSC were treated by surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Langerhans` Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease involving proliferation of Langerhans-type cells, which shares immunophenotypic and ultrastructural similarities. In this article, we report a case of Langerhans cell histiocytosis in solitary involvement of clavicle of adult male.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 21-year-old male visited outpatient department on account of solitary palpable tumorous lesion in right clavicle. The lesion was found 2 weeks before the visit, and it triggered pain but no tenderness. Findings on X-ray, and CT were suggestive of homogeneous osteolytic lesi

A 28-year-old man presented with a histiocytic sarcoma of a very uncommon origin, as it had developed for several years like a benign cutaneous histiocytosis resembling generalized eruptive histiocytoma before becoming acute, with nodal and massive pulmonary involvement. Despite various chemotherapies, the patient died within 8 months. Skin biopsies showed histiocytic proliferation in the dermis and node biopsies showed histiocytic proliferation with a sinusoidal pattern. Immunohistochemical analysis, performed on paraffin-embedded sections, demonstrated strong labeling of tumoral cells for CD

Objective is to identify epidemiologic and radiologic criteria allowing specific diagnoses of tumors and tumor-like lesions in the hip region and pelvis, and to optimize pre-operative staging. Patients with pelvic tumors are usually older, and their tumors are larger relative to patients with tumors in extremities. The majority of tumors in the pelvis are malignant (metastases, myeloma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing-, osteo-, and MFH/fibrosarcoma), while those in the proximal femur are in majority benign (fibrous dysplasia, solitary bone cyst, and osteoid osteoma). Soft tissue masses in the thigh in t

BACKGROUND: Indeterminate dendritic cell tumor (IDCT) is an extremely rare hematologic disorder with poorly understood pathogenesis. Occasionally encountered by hematologists, unusual presentations of IDCT have not been reported in the spine literature.
METHODS: We report a 51-year-old man who presented with a 3-month history of progressively worsening axial thoracic back pain radiating to his sides. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 3-cm enhancing mass at the T9 vertebral body with an exophytic component causing significant canal stenosis. Initial percutaneous biopsy revealed histiocytic

Malignant histiocytosis (MH) is an extremely rare neoplasm of the macrophage-dendritic cell lineage. We report the clinical characteristics, molecular aberrations, treatments, and outcomes of patients with MH seen at two referral centers from January 2000 to May 2023. We identified 43 patients with MH, of which 26 had histiocytic sarcoma (MH-H), 9 interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (MH-IDC), and 8 Langerhans cell sarcoma (MH-LC). The median age at diagnosis was 61 years (range, 3-83). Thirty-three patients (77%) had multifocal disease, while 10 had unifocal involvement. Tumor specimens fro

Thyroid tumors can be classified into epithelial, nonepithelial, and nonprimary lesions. Nonepithelial thyroid tumors are rare. They can be of primary origin within the thyroid gland, arise secondary to contiguous growth from adjacent tissues, or represent metastatic disease. The incidence of nonepithelial tumors of the thyroid is only 1% to 2%, most of which are lymphomas; the remainder includes mesenchymal and histiocytic tumors. This review examines the cytohistological features of various nonepithelial and nonlymphoid tumors of the thyroid, including vascular lesions, neural tumors (includ

Benign and malign tumors can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) as any other articulation. Nevertheless, TMJ tumors are rare and mostly benign. Their clinical expression is varied including symptomatology similar to TMJ dysfunctional disorders, otologic or neurologic pathologies. In some cases, they remain totally asymptomatic. Hence, diagnosis is difficult since the symptomatology can be misleading with TMJ dysfunctional disorders or otologic disorders wrongly diagnosed. There is thus frequently a long delay between symptoms onset and diagnosis. The great variety of TMJ lesions explains

Pathologists and pediatric hematologist/ oncologists of the World Health Organization's Committee on Histiocytic/Reticulum Cell Proliferations and the Reclassification Working Group of the Histiocyte Society present a classification of the histiocytic disorders that primarily affect children. Nosology, based on the lineage of lesional cells and biological behavior, is related to the ontogeny of histiocytes (macrophages and dendritic cells of the immune system). Dendritic cell-related disorders of varied biological behavior are dominated by Langerhans cell histiocytosis, but separate secondary

Rosai-Dorfman disease is an uncommon histiocytic neoplasm that is often self-limiting; however, rarely, it exhibits aggressive behavior and may undergo biological transformation to histiocytic sarcoma. Pathogenic genetic drivers of Rosai-Dorfman disease include recurrent genetic abnormalities in KRAS, NRAS, ARAF, and MAP2K1. Mutation of BRAF is a well-known oncogenic driver in histiocytic neoplasms, including up to 50% of Langerhans cell histiocytosis lesions, Erdheim-Chester disease, and adult and juvenile xanthogranuloma. However, BRAF mutations have been documented in only 4 reported Rosai-

Pediatric tumors of the eye and orbit can be benign or malignant as well as congenital or acquired and are usually distinctively different than those seen in adults. Although most of these neoplasms are benign (eg, dermoid cyst, chalazion, molluscum), their location near and within a vital organ can result in serious dermatologic and ophthalmologic sequelae. Lesions discussed include vascular lesions, retinoblastomas (the most common primary pediatric intraocular malignancy), rhabdomyosarcoma (the most common primary pediatric orbital malignancy), Langerhans cell histiocytosis, and metastatic

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), a rare histiocytic disorder, typically manifests as widespread lymphadenopathy. We present a unique case of extranodal RDD in a 14-year-old with a solitary maxillary lesion and mild bilateral submandibular lymphadenopathy. Clinical, radiological, and histopathological assessments confirmed RDD, highlighting the importance of a comprehensive approach. Immunohistochemistry, including CD68, CD45, CD 1a, and S100, played a crucial role in diagnosis. Differential diagnoses encompassed Langerhans cell histiocytosis, Erdheim-Chester disease, lymphomas, and histiocytic sar

Thalidomide was first introduced in the 1950s as a sedative but was quickly removed from the market after it was linked to cases of severe birth defects. However, it has since made a remarkable comeback for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved use in the treatment of erythema nodosum leprosum. Further, it has shown its effectiveness in unresponsive dermatological conditions such as actinic prurigo, adult Langerhans cell histiocytosis, aphthous stomatitis, Behçet's syndrome, graft-versus-host disease, cutaneous sarcoidosis, erythema multiforme, Jessner-Kanof lymphocytic infiltration o

Dermatopathic lymphadenopathy is a distinctive form of paracortical lymph node hyperplasia that usually occurs in the setting of chronic dermatologic disorders. The aim of this study is to update our understanding of the clinicopathologic and immunophenotypic features of dermatopathic lymphadenopathy. The study cohort was 50 lymph node samples from 42 patients diagnosed with dermatopathic lymphadenopathy. The patients included 29 women and 13 men with a median age of 49 years (range, 12-79). Twenty-two (52%) patients had a dermatologic disorder, including mycosis fungoides (n = 6), chronic inf

PURPOSE: to describe an unusual case of necrotizing myositis in a rectus muscle, possibly related to BRAF inhibitor therapy.
OBSERVATIONS: An 18-year old man with neurodegenerative Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), recently started on the BRAF inhibitor dabrafenib, presented with right eye pain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) orbits revealed a rectus muscle mass concerning for LCH recurrence or malignancy. Dabrafenib was stopped, and incisional biopsy of the mass was performed. The mass was absent on post-operative MRI, so no further treatment was pursued. Histopathologic evaluation was
