Exploring the use of infrared absorption spectroscopy and two-trace two-dimensional correlation analysis for the resolution of multi-component drug mixtures.

Community drug checking provides an essential service that responds to the unpredictable and variable supply of illicit drugs. Point of care detection of trace components using portable infrared spectrometers is a harm reduction measure to prevent overdose. This study investigates the ability of weighted subtraction and two-trace two-dimensional (2T2D) correlation analysis to reveal the presence of heroin in an opioid mixture that contains heroin and fentanyl mixed with caffeine as a cutting agent. In both methods, a spectral trace was identified that provided reasonably high correlation score

Comprehensive stage- and tissue-specific transcriptome of the global ecosystem service insect, marmalade hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus.

Hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae) are globally beneficial insects that provide key ecological services, such as pollination and biological pest control. Importantly, extensive research has revealed that numerous species within this group engage in long-distance migrations, thereby enabling these services to operate across broad spatial scales. Hence, the conservation and sustainable use of this functionally important group is crucial for maintaining ecosystem balance and stability, especially in the face of ongoing losses of ecosystem functioning. However, limited genomic and transcriptomic reso

Behavioral toxicology of carbon disulfide and toluene.

Organic solvents are pervasive in the communal and industrial environments. Although many are potent central nervous system agents, clearly delineated behavioral effects have played only a minor role in the formation of exposure standards. A comprehensive behavioral pharmacology and toxicology of these compounds is one aim of US/USSR collaboration. The current report describes some actions of carbon disulfide and toulene. Earlier data about the actions of carbon disulfide on pigeon operant performance indicated disruption of schedule-controlled key-pecking. Primate data are now described from

Realist review of community coalitions and outreach interventions to increase access to primary care for vulnerable populations: a realist review.

BACKGROUND: There are meaningful gaps in equitable access to Primary Health Care (PHC), especially for vulnerable populations after widespread reforms in Western countries. The Innovative Models Promoting Access-to-Care Transformation (IMPACT) research program is a Canadian-Australian collaboration that aims to improve access to PHC for vulnerable populations. Relationships were developed with stakeholders in six regions across Canada and Australia where access-related needs could be identified. The most promising interventions would be implemented and tested to address the needs identified. T

Factors Influencing Abortion Decision-Making of Adolescents and Young Women: A Narrative Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Globally, about half of all induced abortions have been estimated to be unsafe, which results in 13% of maternal deaths yearly. Of these induced abortions, 41% of unsafe abortions have been reported in young women who are dependent on their parents for their livelihood. They are often left in a vulnerable position and may have difficulty in making a decision regarding abortion. This study aimed to (1) characterize and map factors that influence abortion decision-making of adolescents and young women, and (2) identify the care and support that they need in their decision-making pr

Digital twins and explainable AI across the vaccine life cycle: from mRNA manufacturing to thermostability, cold-chain logistics, and immunisation services.

The COVID-19 era accelerated the deployment of mRNA vaccines while exposing persistent weaknesses in manufacturing, thermostability and cold-chain systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This narrative review, informed by an explicit search of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, IEEE Xplore and the ACM Digital Library (2019-2025), synthesises over 50 studies of digital twins (DTs) and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) across the vaccine life cycle. The evidence indicates that DTs are progressing from static simulations to operational twins for plasmid-to-mRNA pro
