A prospective randomized controlled trial on ureteral stenting after ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy.

PURPOSE: A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted to evaluate whether postoperative ureteral stenting is necessary after ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 58 patients with unilateral ureteral stones were randomized into either stented or unstented groups. Ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy was performed using a semirigid ureteroscope (6.5/7Fr) and holmium laser without ureteral orifice dilation. There were no selection criteria regarding stone size, location, preoperative ureteral obstruction and hydronephrosis. Endoscopic evidence of stone impacti

Treatment of bile duct stones: value of laser lithotripsy delivered via percutaneous endoscopy.

Extraction of stones from the bile ducts via standard endoscopic techniques, a percutaneous transhepatic approach, or a T-tube track can be unsuccessful. We report our preliminary experience with a combination of percutaneous cholangioscopy and dye laser lithotripsy. Flash lamp-excited dye laser (504 nm) lithotripsy delivered by percutaneous cholangioscopy (12 F) was evaluated in 13 patients with stones in the bile ducts. Conventional endoscopic treatment had not been attempted in 4 patients after hepaticojejunostomy and had failed in 3 patients after gastric bypass surgery or gastrectomy, and

Comparative outcomes of laser and pneumatic lithotripsy for solitary mid and lower ureteric stones.

INTRODUCTION: The management of ureteric stones has been revolutionized by minimally invasive techniques, with Holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy (LL) and pneumatic lithotripsy (PL) being two primary modalities. While effective, they differ in mechanism, cost, and potential complications. This study aims to compare the intraoperative and postoperative outcomes of LL versus PL for solitary mid and lower ureteric stones. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 178 patients who underwent ureteroscopic lithotripsy at SCB Medical College, Cuttack. Patients were divided into two groups: Group

[Endoscopic lithotripsy of a urinary bladder calculus with the aid of a holmium-YAG-laser in a gelding].

A 6 year old Haflinger gelding was presented to the reporting clinics with a history of chronic dysuria. A large cystic calculus (12 x 9 x 9 cm) was diagnosed cystoscopically. Lithotripsy was carried out endoscopically in the standing, sedated patient with a Holmium:YAG surgical laser (2100 nm, 0.5-3.5 J/pulse, 3-60 pulses/sec.). The endoscope was inserted into the bladder via perineal urethrostomy. Fragmentation of the urolith was carried out with a laser fiber (core diameter 600 microns) in contact mode. Healing proceeded uneventfully. On follow up examination 8 weeks post surgery, no signs

PERCUTANEOUS CHOLANGIOSCOPY AND LASER BILIARY LITHOTRIPSY FOR BILIARY INTRAHEPATIC STONES MANAGEMENT: CASE REPORT.

Intrahepatic biliary stone disease is a difficult condition to treat, due to anatomical complexity of biliary tract, association with colestasis, and high recurrence rates, with potential short- and long-term complications, such as cholangitis and secondary biliary cirrhosis. Removal of biliary stones via intraductal access can be achieved endoscopically or percutaneously, with preference for cholangioscopy-guided laser lithotripsy in complex cases. The surgical approach, despite its prolonged results, is a more invasive and risky procedure. The authors present a case of cholangioscopy with pe
