Unraveling the therapeutic potential of luteolin in renal pathology: a comprehensive pathway oriented approach.

Kidney diseases, particularly chronic kidney disease (CKD), represent a significant global health challenge, affecting over 9.5% of the world’s population. Both systemic inflammation and oxidative stress are strongly associated with the development of CKD and contribute to the emergence of numerous complications. Renal injury is driven by interconnected molecular pathways that collectively exacerbate inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrotic responses. The activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling cascades, along with NOD-like receptor fa

The effects of luteolin on osteoclast differentiation, function in vitro and ovariectomy-induced bone loss.

Flavonoids, a group of polyphenolic compounds abundant in plants, are known to prevent bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) animal models. Inhibition of osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption is considered as an effective therapeutic approach in the treatment of postmenopausal bone loss. Luteolin, a plant flavonoid, has potent anti-inflammatory properties both in vivo and vitro. In this study, we found that luteolin markedly decreased the differentiation of both bone marrow mononuclear cells and Raw264.7 cells into osteoclasts. Luteolin also inhibited the bone resorptive activity of diffe

Antimycobacterial activity of luteolin in resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates and cytotoxicity on L929 cells.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) bacteria can cause oxidative stress and the production of inflammatory cytokines, creating an environment that enhances tumour formation, progression and metastasis. Epidemiological studies have found a link between lung cancer and tuberculosis (TB), but the cellular mechanism is still unclear. Current treatment involves multiple drugs and a long treatment regimen. The fact that there is a very limited number of anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) drugs against TB, that no antimicrobial has been developed that can treat TB alone, and therefore, if a pathoge

Microneedle loaded with luteolin-colostrum-derived exosomes: a dropless approach for treatment of glaucoma.

Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, is marked by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and retinal ganglion cell death. Traditional IOP-lowering eye drops often fail to penetrate the ocular barrier, leading to suboptimal outcomes. Microneedles (MN), offer a promising minimally invasive and localized alternative. Our study aimed to formulate a naturally-derived nanodelivery system using Luteolin-loaded colostrum-derived exosomes (LUT-EX) and propolis in MN arrays for better ocular delivery. The isolated exosomes were uniform, averaging 50.83 nm in size, with a zeta potential of -

The Association of Palmitoylethanolamide with Luteolin Decreases Neuroinflammation and Stimulates Autophagy in Parkinson's Disease Model.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disorder resulted by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons. To counteract the neuroinflammation and oxidative stress of PD, we decided to test a new composite constituted by palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and luteolin (Lut), in a mass ratio of 10:1, respectively (co-ultraPEALut). In this study the neuroprotective property of the new compound was investigated. For the in vivo model of PD, mice received four injections of the dopaminergic neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6- tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Starting 24 h after the first administration of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,

Dose- and time-dependent effects of luteolin on carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in mice.

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) is a well-known model compound for producing chemical hepatic injury. This study investigated the protective effects of the flavonoid luteolin on the CCl(4)-induced hepatotoxicity in mice. Luteolin dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) at 5 or 50 mg/kg as a single dose, and once daily for 2 consecutive days. Two hours after the final treatment, the mice were treated with CCl(4) (20 mg/kg, i.p.). CCl(4)-induced hepatotoxicity was reduced in a dose- and time-dependent manner, as determined by decreased serum aminotransferas
