We observed a girl with an interrupted, left inferior vena cava with hemiazygous continuation, bilateral superior venae cavae, heart defects, and sacral agenesis. She had macrostomia and bilateral ear tags and pits, as in oculoauriculovertebral defect. Maternal diabetes was present. The combination, which we call OAV-heterotaxia complex, supports the view that some cases of oculoauriculovertebral defect may be part of a midline field defect of blastogenesis.

We describe a child with short stature of prenatal onset, rhizomelic limb shortness affecting the upper limbs particularly, and an unusual face. She had frontal balding, mid-face hypoplasia, a small nose, macrostomia with down-turned corners of the mouth, gingival hypertrophy, and hypoplasia or absence of the clitoris. There was no gross modelling defect of the skeleton and the vertebral column was normal. Some of these manifestations overlap with those of Robinow syndrome.

Tessier 7 cleft, or transverse facial cleft, is a rare congenital anomaly involving lateral facial tissues, often resulting from embryonic disruptions in the first and second branchial arches. It presents varying severities from macrostomia to complete clefts affecting soft tissue and skeletal structures. Surgical management is challenging, requiring a multidisciplinary approach for functional and aesthetic reconstruction. This case report discusses a patient's presentation, surgical intervention, and outcomes. Our case report describes a rare form of Tessier cleft in a one-and-a-half-year-old

A female new-born with bilateral lateral facial clefts, resulting in macrostomia, is reported. In addition she had a diminished palpebral fissure length. She died suddenly at the age of 6 months, presumably due to respiratory insufficiency. The unique combination of facial anomalies, present in this patient, has not been reported before. We discuss the differential diagnosis and the classification of facial clefts.

A previously unreported case of Barber-Say syndrome is described with special attention to dental manifestations. A 7-year-old female with multiple congenital anomalies such mammary gland hypoplasia, hypertrichosis, ectropion, and redundant skin was seen at the School of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo. Oral examination revealed macrostomia, broad alveolar ridges, gingival fibromatosis, taurodontism, delayed tooth eruption, and malocclusion. Dental treatment included gingivoplasty and orthodontic treatment.

INTRODUCTION: MED13L-related intellectual disability is characterized by moderate intellectual disability (ID), speech impairment, and dysmorphic facial features. We present 8 patients with MED13L-related intellectual disability and review the literature for phenotypical and genetic aspects of previously described patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the search for genetic aberrations in individuals with ID, two of the patients were identified by chromosomal microarray analysis, and five by exome sequencing. One of the individuals, suspected of MED13L-related intellectual disability, based on

PURPOSE: Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is a relatively uncommon malformation, a far second to cleft lip/palate (CL/P). Transverse oral cleft ("macrostomia") is known to be associated with HFM, but there are also reports of concurrent CL/P. We undertook a retrospective study of patients with HFM to document the prevalence of facial clefting. The hypothesis is that the coexistence of facial clefts and HFM suggests a common pathogenic mechanism.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of 198 HFM patients from the database of the Craniofacial Centre at Boston Children's Hospital were reviewed. The age, gend

We report on a father to daughter transmission of Barber-Say syndrome (BSS), a rare, congenital disorder characterized by severe generalized hypertrichosis, macrostomia, ocular telecanthus, bulbous nose and atrophic skin. These two cases further support the autosomal dominant inheritance. Both presented with the typical BSS symptoms but the phenotypic expression in the father was milder. Treatment is challenging for both patients and doctors, requiring a multidisciplinary approach.

An 18-month-old child presented with right macrostomia, bilateral preauricular skin tags, bilateral CTEV, squint in bilateral eyes, thoracic vertebral anomalies, right sided aortic arch, and associated left pulmonary agenesis. The patient did not have any associated respiratory symptoms. Ipsilateral pulmonary agenesis is considered as a rare association with Goldenhar syndrome and a case of contralateral pulmonary aplasia has been described as an even rarer association.

Before regarding the treatment of facial deformities in mandibulo-facial dysostosis, the clinical, radiological and anatomical findings are reviewed. The plastic surgical correction of the main deformities are then considered. The aims of the treatment are: close the palpebral coloboma, build the zygomatic bones and zygomatic arches, correct the malformation of the auricles and the macrostomia, re-establish normal dental occlusion if necessary and harmonize the profile by reducing the nose and excessive vertical dimension of the mental symphysis.

Three newborn babies were studied in our hospital with the following associated unilateral deformities: macrostomia, hemignathia and anomalies of the external ear. The main symptom was the inability for suction causing some weight loss. These cases could be logically named "syndrome of the first and second branchial arches" because of their common origin. We discuss the pathogenesis and the differences with other diseases including those of hereditary origin. The initial management is discussed.

A karyotype 46,XY,del(20)(q11 X 23q13 X 11) was found in a three year old boy with mental and growth retardation, low set ears, broad nasal bridge, and macrostomia. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) activity was reduced by about 50%, assigning the gene locus to the deleted segment. A review of the previously reported regional assignments suggests that the ADA gene is in the region of band 20q13 X 11.

Bilateral transverse facial cleft, Tessier no 7 also known as bilateral congenital macrostomia are very rare clefts. We present an eight months old female with bilateral transverse facial cleft, third child of three siblings in a monogamous setting born to parents of Delta origin who resides in effurun Delta state of Nigeria. Mother ingested postinor several times in an attempt to abort pregnancy. Pregnant women should be encouraged to have adequate folic acid diet or supplements.

A case of Goldenhar-Gorlin syndrome in a seven-month-old male infant presented with the features of epibulbar dermoid, microtia and hemifacial microsomia associated with thumb defect. The dermoid was bilateral and microtia was unilateral. Preauricular appendages and pits were double and single respectively on both the sides. Hemifacial microsomia was unilateral and was associated with cleft lip, macrostomia, dental misalignment, large tongue and high arched palate. The association of hypoplastic thumb with Goldenhar-Gorlin syndrome has not been documented in the past.

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging permits surface reconstructions that allow a better view of the appearance of organs. We report a case of a fetus with cystic hygroma diagnosed at 11 weeks of gestation, associated with a diaphragmatic hernia. With the 3D reconstruction, we examined the fetal face much more easily, which presented facial dysmorphology, retrognathia, macrostomia and a broad nasal bridge. The conjunctions of these pathological features and a normal karyotype allowed to establish a prenatal diagnosis of Fryns syndrome, confirmed by autopsy.

We report a case of lateral facial cleft (Tessier 7) diagnosed by sonography at a gestational age of 24 weeks. Two-dimensional sonography revealed a fetus appropriate for gestational age without obvious anomaly, but a three-dimensional sonogram with surface mode rendering showed asymmetrical macrostomia as a result of a left lateral facial cleft. Our case highlights the advantage of using three-dimensional sonography in the prenatal diagnosis of lateral facial clefts.

Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is the second most common facial anomaly after cleft lip and palate. HFM is characterised by facial asymmetry, microtia, preauricular tags, macrostomia and cardiac defects. The majority of cases are sporadic, although autosomal dominant and recessive modes of inheritance have been reported. Here, the case of an 11-month-old boy with HFM and pulmonary hypoplasia, which is a rare association, is described. Pulmonary hypoplasia was detected during investigation of the patient for associated anomalies. He is currently on follow-up in the genetic clinic.

OBJECTIVE: A 13-day-old girl with a left transverse facial cleft and a median defect of the lower jaw is reported in detail. Left macrostomia was repaired using a W-plasty technique, and preauricular appendages were excised. The median defect of the mandible demonstrated by computed tomography scan on the first examination had disappeared at 1 year of age.
CONCLUSION: Congenital clefts of the mandible can fuse at a later stage; thus, it is necessary to wait to treat the mandibular defect until the infant is slightly older.
