Partial Explantation of Failed Dental Implants Placed in Mandibular Canal: A Case Report.

One of the most important concerns during posterior mandibular implant placement is avoiding the mandibular canal. Nerve injury can be very disturbing to the patient, possibly causing mild paresthesia to complete anesthesia. Explantation of a dental implant that gas violated the mandibular canal is the most recommended treatment. However, an osseointegrated implant that placed in the mandibular canal can be left if the patient shows no symptoms. In this case report, we describe a technique to maintain the apexes of the implants while partially removing fractured osseointegrated implants previo

Surgical Approach to Foreign Material Within the Mandibular Canal Due to Iatrogenic Factors.

This clinical report describes a relatively infrequent patient with inferior alveolar nerve damage caused by foreign material within the mandibular canal, which is one of the most severe complications of endodontic therapy. Although the circumstance is uncommon, it can have extremely unfavorable consequences for patients, such as anesthesia and paresthesia. In the present case, a patient suffered pain and severe paresthesia in the corresponding area after routine endodontic therapy. Several treatments were conducted to relieve the patient's symptoms, ranging from medication to tooth extraction

Association between Facial Type and Mandibular Canal Morphology - Analysis in Digital Panoramic Radiographs.

In this study we investigate the association between facial type and mandibular canal course morphology analysing this in digital panoramic radiographs images. We used 603 digital images from panoramic radiographs. We selected only panoramic radiographs of fully dentate individuals, who had all lower molars bilaterally and with complete root formation. The sample distribution was determined by facial type and sex. The course of the mandibular canal, as seen in the panoramic radiographs, was classified into 3 types, bilaterally. The classification used was: type 1 if the mandibular canal is in

Morphometric analysis of the mandibular incisive canal using cone beam computed tomography images.

BACKGROUND: The mandibular incisive canal (MIC), an anterior extension of the inferior alveolar canal, contains neurovascular bundles and is clinically significant. On cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, it appears as a radiolucency with a radiopaque rim. This study aimed to investigate anatomical variations of the mandibular incisive canal using CBCT images from patients referred to treatment centers in Tehran during 2023–2024. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 345 CBCT scans (690 images) from patients referred to medical centers in Tehran were analyzed. The MIC’s

Automated classification of mandibular canal in relation to third molar using CBCT images.

BACKGROUND: Dental radiology has significantly benefited from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) because of its compact size and low radiation exposure. Canal tracking is an important application of CBCT for determining the relationship between the inferior alveolar nerve and third molar. Usually, canal tacking is performed manually, which takes a lot of time. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model to automate classification of the mandibular canal in relation to the third molar. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted using 434 CBCT images. 3D slicer soft

[Surgical treatment tactics in patients with third molars located close to mandibular canal].

The tight fit of the roots of the third molars to the mandibular canal is the main predisposing factor of injury to the inferior alveolar nerve during tooth extraction surgery. Surgical treatment of 92 patients diagnosed with pericoronitis, retention of the third molar of the mandible, close fit of the roots of the third molar to the mandibular canal was performed. Four types of close fit of the roots of the third molars to the mandibular canal were revealed, according to CBCT, OPTG and clinical data. Most cases of paresthesia after the removal of the third molars are associated with an anatom

Mandibular Canal Widening and Bell's Palsy: Sequelae of Perineural Invasion in Oral Cancer.

Perineural invasion is an underrecognized route of metastatic spread along the nerve bundles within the nerve sheath into the surrounding tissues. It hinders the ability to establish local control as tumour cells can traverse along nerve tracts well beyond the extent of any local invasion rendering them inoperable and unresectable. Perineural invasion is a marker of poor prognosis. Oral submucous fibrosis with oral cancer constitutes a clinicopathologically distinct disease. Our case highlights an enigmatic presentation of oral submucous fibrosis and its coexistence with oral cancer presenting

Endodontic treatments of mandibular first molar with middle mesial canal: two case reports.

The mandibular first molars mostly have two mesial canals. In this report, two cases of mandibular first molars with three mesial canals are presented. The middle mesial canal was detected under endodontic microscope and further confirmed by cone-beam computed tomography and angled radiography, respectively. The purpose of this paper was to highlight the possibility of an aberrant root canal in a mandibular first molar and to help reduce the failure rates of the dental pulp treatment of the mandibular first molar.

Internal resorption occurring after accidental extrusion of iodoform paste into the mandibular canal.

The precise etiology of internal resorption is unknown but it is generally believed that triggering factors are infection and persistent chronic pulpitis. A case is presented with internal resorption, which developed subsequent to extrusion of iodoform paste from the adjacent tooth into the mandibular canal. According to clinical and radiographic examinations made after 7 years, the tooth was clinically asymptomatic, vital and the internal resorption was arrested without treatment.

Cutaneous Sinus Tract from Mandibular Second Molar with C-shaped Canal System and Improper Former Root Canal Treatment: A Case Report.

Here, we report the diagnosis and treatment of an extraoral cutaneous sinus tract originating in a mandibular second molar with a C-shaped root canal system. The patient was referred to our department by a dermatologist after a series of unsuccessful treatments, including antibiotics. Diffuse radiolucency on a preoperative radiograph revealed that earlier root canal treatment had been only partially successful. Consequently, we performed retreatment of the root canal comprising removal of the former restoration and gutta-percha, cleaning and shaping, and passive irrigation with sodium hypochlo

Solving the Mystery: A Case Study on Treating a Mandibular First Premolar With Multiple Canals.

The mandibular first premolar, which is the anteriormost tooth in the mandibular arch, differs from other teeth in that it typically has two roots and two to four canals. The current case involves treating a mandibular first premolar with two canals through endodontic therapy. The 42-year-old male patient's left mandibular first premolar was diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis. The lateral view X-ray depicted two canals. In the dental procedure, endodontic treatment involves working under an operating microscope and using magnification to treat the affected tooth. After canal shaping the toot

Management of Radix Paramolaris With a Distal Canal in the Mandibular First Molar: A Case Report.

Mandibular first molars, also called six-year molars as they appear at around six years of age, are the first permanent teeth to erupt in the oral cavity. They are the teeth most commonly affected by dental caries. Anatomically, the tooth presents with two roots and three canals. In very rare cases, presence of an extra root or a supernumerary root has been associated with the tooth. When this root is present lingual to the distal root, it is called radix entomolaris whereas when it is present buccal to the mesial root, it is called radix paramolaris. The presence of veiled canals is possible
