Reconstruction of mandibular substance loss by a free flap is a widely used technique. This technique suffers from several disadvantages, including the presence of a second intervention site and a substantial frequency of complications. We have undertaken a custom-made 3-dimensional reconstruction (using computer-aided design and manufacturing) with prosthetic dental rehabilitation and esthetic improvement by lipomodeling of the face. A 50-year-old woman presented with a massive recurrence of an ameloblastoma of the right hemimandible. A cervical approach was used to resect the mandible well a

Oligodontia is defined as the absence of 6 or more permanent teeth due to the hypodevelopment of tooth germs. This familial abnormality is attributable to various mutations or polymorphisms of genes and associated with malformative syndromes. This clinical report presents the multidisciplinary dental treatment planning for a 27-year-old woman who exhibited oligodontia. After radiographic and clinical evaluations, 7 retained primary teeth and 2 mandibular third molars were extracted. Three dental implants were placed into the maxillary alveolar process. After the osseointegration period, comple

OBJECTIVES: This clinical case represents a particular application of vertical distraction osteogenesis of the mandible. The surgical technique was applied to an iliac crest bone graft previously positioned on an anterior mandibular defect with the aim to restore the vertical height after a partial resorption in a trauma patient.
CASE REPORT: Distraction osteogenesis was applied because it was necessary to restore the mandibular height in a young male patient who presented with a post-trauma anterior mandibular bony deficiency. Because of the irregularity of the mandibular surface and the dep

This article reports the treatment and 5-year follow-up of an 80-year-old female with a history of severe osteoporosis and chronic polyarthritis. Treatment included methotrixate disodium and acemetacin. After the last tooth was removed from the mandible, the patient was successfully treated with a fixed mandibular prosthesis supported by 6 implants placed between the mental foramina. The implants have remained osseointegrated, and peri-implant smears have been negative for bacterial colonization. Radiographic follow-up examination has revealed bone loss that is slightly greater than expected.

The "all-on-four" treatment modality is a treatment in which four implants are surgically placed in the completely edentulous jaw in order to restore immediately loaded implant supported fixed restoration. The aim of the present study was to compare clinical, radiological and prosthetic outcomes of immediately loaded maxillary and mandibular four implant supported cross-arch fixed denture prosthesis. A total of 112 edentulous patients who were rehabilitated for their complete maxillary and mandibular edentulism using All-on-four concept between January 2010 to August 2012 in four private denta

Fibrosarcoma in the mandible in children is a very rare condition. We present a rare case of central mandibular fibrosarcoma in a child, treated with radical tumor resection, reconstructive surgery, long-term prognostic evaluation, and morphofunctional reconstruction. The patient was an 8-year-old boy. In 2008, he was referred to us with a chief complaint of tenderness in the gingiva of the right mandibular molar region. Suspecting an odontogenic benign tumor or cyst, we performed an excisional biopsy. Histopathological examination diagnosed fibrosarcoma. Systemic evaluation showed no metastas

The fibular free flap (FFF) approach is the preferred option for reconstruction of segmental mandibular deficiencies. Fixed dental prostheses are recommended for patients who have undergone FFF jaw surgery to improve quality of life, but treatment of these patients with an implant-supported prosthesis is challenging because of the thin bone and thick soft tissue in the fibula. This case history reports the use of a bone-level implant guide fabricated with a computer-aided system and milled customized long abutments for implant placement and prosthodontic procedures. Advanced digital technologi

INTRODUCTION: Mandibular continuity defects following tumor resection or trauma are commonly reconstructed using vascularized iliac crest or fibula grafts. The biomechanical implications of these grafts on implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation remain unclear.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study employed finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate stress distribution in three mandibular models: a control model (CM), an iliac crest graft model (IM), and a fibula graft model (FM). A segmental defect was created from the right premolar to the mandibular angle and reconstructed using either ilia

This case report presents the prosthodontic rehabilitation of a patient with a resected right mandible, caused by an accident. Right condyle, ramus, and the posterior part of ramus were affected by the accident. These structures were resected, and the mandible was positioned toward the surgical area and a facial asymmetry was occurred. The patient was treated with a bar-retained maxillar denture with a guide ramp and an implant-supported fixed mandibular prosthesis.

A patient presented complex fractures of the face and skull with leg trauma after a traffic accident. Maxillofacial repair used sophisticated procedures: bone grafts, muscle flaps and multiple osteotomies. After reconstructing the mid face and the mandibular repair, bone implants were used to stabilize the maxillary prosthesis. The psychological and functions problems raised in this case are discussed considering the occupational and social outcome.

In contemporary implant and prosthodontic practice, high levels of surgical and biologic success rates have been achieved. However, mechanical and technical complications continue to exist. Of these, one of the biggest challenges to the clinician is the conservative retrieval of fractured screw fragments from within the implants and/or abutments. While removal is desirable, the fragments cannot always be removed, and alternative solutions for the management of such clinical situations must be considered. This clinical report describes the replacement of 2 fractured, irretrievable, Locator abut
