In the present study species like Mangifera indica, Linn., Cassia fistula, Linn., and Eucalyptus hybrid were exposed to different air pollution load for short duration (active biomonitoring). Variation in biochemical parameters like chlorophyll, protein, soluble sugar free amino acid, ascorbic acid, nitrate reductase, superoxide dismutase and peroxidase in the leaves were found to be pollution load dependent. These variations can be used as indicators of air pollution for early diagnosis of stress or as a marker for physiological damage to trees prior to the onset of visible injury symptoms. J

Fruits are valued for their nutritional benefits, providing essential carbohydrates, vitamins, and dietary fibre. However, assessing fruit ripeness remains challenging, as it is governed by complex physiological processes and environmental factors that are not always reflected in external appearance. This difficulty is exemplified by Nam Dok Mai Si Tong (NDMST) mangoes, which retain a largely uniform yellow skin during ripening, making visual maturity grading unreliable. To address this limitation, we propose AFMG-DLFF (Automated Fruit Maturity Grading using Deep Learning with Feature Fusion),

Mangoes (Mangifera indica) are widely prized for their abundant nutritional content and variety of beneficial bioactive compounds and are popularly utilized in various foods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics industries. However, it is important to note that certain proteins present in mango can trigger various allergic reactions, ranging from mild oral allergy syndrome to severe life-threatening anaphylaxis. The immunoglobulin E-mediated hypersensitivity of mango is mainly associated with three major allergenic proteins: Man i 1 (class IV chitinase), Man i 2 (pathogenesis-related-10 protein; Bet

In this work, by using high throughput virtual screening and bioactivity assays, this work revealed that three natural compounds, mulberrin (Mul) exhibiting the highest anti-CYP51 activity, isoxanthohumol and (s)-isopsoralen markedly inhibited 14α-demethylase (a pivotal biosynthetic enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of ergosterol) in Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Results of computational biology analysis demonstrated that, among the three inhibitors bound to the catalytic pocket of CYP51, Mul showed a closer distance with heme in CYP51 and a stronger binding free energy with CYP51. Mango anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides), is a major postharvest disease that significantly impacts mango production and consumption globally. This study aimed to evaluate the combined effect of plant extracts and hot water treatments on the development of anthracnose and the preservation of postharvest quality in mangoes. In vitro tests using the food poisoning technique assessed the efficacy of acetone, ethyl acetate, hexane, and methanol extracts from nine different medicinal plant species against C. gloeosporioides. Among the tested extracts, Ruta chalepensis demonstrated the mos

The cultivation and enrichment of different soils in a vineyard yielded 95 yeast species. Among them, seven strains capable of producing β-glucosidases were identified using the aescin colorimetric method. One non-Saccharomyces yeast strain was isolated from a plate containing lysine and identified using internal transcription (ITS) as Candida cf. sorbosivorans (C. cf. sorbosivorans), which was named Candida cf. sorbosivorans X1. Additionally, the enzymatic characteristics of the β-glucosidases produced by this strain were investigated. The β-glucosidases generated by C. cf. sorbosivorans X1 d

Three polyphenolic principles, 1,2,3,4,6-penta- O-galloyl-beta-D-glucopyranose (PGG), methyl gallate (MG), and gallic acid (GA), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of seed kernels of Thai mango (MSKE) ( MANGIFERA INDICA L. cv. "Fahlun") and quantified using a TLC scanning densitometric method. The MSKE and its isolates were investigated by studying their antioxidant capacities using four different methods, by determining their IN VITRO anti-inflammatory activities, and by evaluating their hepatoprotective potential against liver injury in rats induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl (4)). The aim of this study was to explore the alterations in physicochemical characteristics, bioactivity, flavor and metabolic profiles of mango juice fermented by Limosilactobacillus reuteri FJG2526 (L. reuteri FJG2526). The results exhibited that L. reuteri FJG2526 had strong adaptability in mango juice, and reduced the total sugar, polyphenolics and flavonoids content of mango juice. L. reuteri FJG2526 fermentation ameliorated the flavor profiles of mango juice, particularly promoted the production of acids, alcohols, and esters. Moreover, 107 metabolites in the mango juice were drastically alt

Mangiferin is a potential candidate for use in nutraceutical and functional food applications due to its numerous bioactivities. However, the low bioavailability of mangiferin is a major limitation for establishing efficacy for use. This review describes current information on known food sources and factors that influence mangiferin contents, absorption, and metabolism features, and recent progress that has come from research efforts to increase the bioavailability of mangiferin. We also list patents that targeted to enhance mangiferin bioavailability. Mangifera indica L. is the major dietary

BACKGROUND: The asexual and sexual stages (gametocytes) of Plasmodium falciparum parasites are known to respond differently to antimalarial drugs. Herbal products with extended treatment regimens and inadequate dosing information are widely used to treat malaria in Ghana. This study set out to determine the in vitro activity of selected herbal extracts on the development of asexual and sexual stage malaria parasites.
METHODS: The 72-hour SYBR Green 1-based in vitro drug assay was used to determine the asexual parasite growth inhibitory effects exhibited by aqueous extracts of Alchornea cordif

The mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a commonly cultivated tropical fruit across the globe. It is known to be rich in carotenoids, polyphenols, and vitamins, compounds that largely account for its nutritional and medicinal properties. Although the beneficial effects of mango phytochemicals have been widely documented, virtually no studies have investigated extracellular vesicles (EVs) originating from mango fruit. In the presented work, we developed a workflow combining differential centrifugation, filtration, and size-exclusion chromatography for the isolation of EVs from mango pulp. The isolat

This study identifies fungi associated with Euwallacea fornicatus and determines whether these fungal species play the role of primary symbiont. E. fornicatus adults that emerged from the branches of infested trees in Okinawa main island, Japan, were collected and used to isolate fungi. Fusarium kuroshium and Penicillium citrinum were the most dominant fungal associates of females and males, respectively. F. kuroshium was much more frequently isolated from the head, including mycangia (fungus-carrying organs), of females than any other body parts. We inoculated healthy mango saplings with F. k

In recent times, bioprospecting for plants that show bioactive properties has yielded many chemicals that can be used in controlling mosquitoes. Crude extracts of 4 terrestrial and 3 mangrove plants were assayed against 2-3 larval instars of Aedes aegypti. Among the plants tested, Cordia curassavica showed the highest levels of activity for all the extracts tested. Azadirachta indica showed the least activity, whereas the 2 cultivars of Mangifera indica showed substantial activity for the aqueous extracts. The mangrove species proved to be relatively nontoxic to Ae. aegypti larvae when compare

The effects of hydrostatic (HHP) and dynamic (HPH) high-pressure treatments on the activity of pectin methylesterase (PME) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) as well as the physicochemical quality attributes of 'Ataulfo' mango nectar were assessed. HHP reduced PME relative activity by 28% at 100 MPa for 5 min but increased PPO activity almost five-fold. Contrarily, HPH did not affect PME activity, but PPO was effectively reduced to 10% of residual activity at 300 MPa and at three passes. Color parameters (CIEL*a*b*), °hue, and chroma were differently affected by each type of high-pressure processing

The mango tree (Mangifera indica) produces nutrient-dense fruit that is consumed across the world. Interestingly, despite widespread consumption of its fruit and its categorization in the Anacardiaceae family, allergic reactions to the mango tree and its components are comparatively rare, sometimes manifesting as allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Evaluation of ACD most commonly includes a thorough clinical assessment with diagnostic support from patch testing and histopathologic review following skin biopsy. In recent years, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) has shown promising potential
