Primary malignant liver mesenchymal tumor: a case report.

Primary malignant liver mesenchymal tumor is a rare condition defined as a tumor with vascular, fibrous, adipose, and other mesenchymal tissue differentiation. We report a case of primary malignant liver mesenchymal tumor in a 51-year-old male with anemia, weight loss and hepatomegaly. Finally unconventional liver biopsy and histological manifestation led to the definitive diagnosis.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia, also known as oncogenic osteomalacia, is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome in which vitamin D resistant osteomalacia occurs due to the presence of a tumor. The following case report describes a young woman who seeks a second opinion from a rheumatologist and is found to have oncogenic osteomalacia. Not often discussed in the rheumatology literature, oncogenic osteomalacia is a rare and interesting disease entity in which diagnosis is often more challenging than treatment.

Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor: a case report.

Osteomalacia induced by tumor is a rare phenomenon in which the resection of tumor is followed by dramatic amelioration of clinical signs and symptoms. We hereby report a case of a 66 years old male who presented with features of osteomalacia in which the characteristic clinical presentation was associated with the phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor, mixed connective tissue variant. The case is reported for its rarity.

Clinical and histopathological features of colonic stromal tumor in a child.

Neoplasms of the colonic submucosa are rare in children. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are undifferentiated tumors, usually diagnosed by immunohistochemistry. We report a 4-year-old girl with a submucosal GIST of the ascending colon, which was detected by computed tomography. Diagnosis after ileocecal resection was established by histology. In addition, sections were examined immunohistochemically, using antibodies against vimentin, desmin, alpha-smooth muscle actin, S100, neuron-specific enolase, c-kit, and CD34. Hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections showed interlacing fascicles wi

Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst.

BACKGROUND: An odontogenic keratocyst can develop at virtually any site in the jaws and is of concern because of its aggressive clinical behavior. It represents 3% to 12% of all odontogenic cysts. This paper describes the rare peripheral presentation of an odontogenic keratocyst localized to the maxillary anterior gingiva and its differential diagnosis. METHODS: A patient presented with a round yellow nodule on the maxillary gingiva between the left canine and first premolar. Clinical examination ruled out periapical abscess, periodontal abscess, and lateral periodontal cyst. A differential d

Ectomesenchymal Chondromyxoid Tumor: A Rare Case Report With an 11-Year Indolent Course.

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (EMCMT) is a rare benign neoplasm of uncertain histogenesis that typically involves the anterior portion of the tongue. Approximately 114 cases have been documented in the literature, with 9.6% reported from South America. Herein, we describe a case of EMCMT and discuss its clinicopathological features, differential diagnosis, and treatment. A 25-year-old woman presented with an 11-year history of an asymptomatic nodular lesion on the left lateral-middle dorsal surface of the tongue. Surgical excision was performed. Histopathological examination revealed a m

Tumour-induced Osteomalacia Secondary to Intracranial Tumours - Report of 2 Cases.

Tumor induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a paraneoplastic syndrome which is mostly caused by a phosphaturic mesenchymal tumour mixed connective tissue variant (PMTMCT). These tumours do not have any specific site predilection but their presence in cranial compartment is very rare. Two cases of TIO secondary to phosphaturic mesenchymal tumour at the skull base are described ahead, one of which was in the posterior fossa and the other in middle cranial fossa. Early diagnosis and complete excision of PMT is essential in preventing morbidity secondary to osteomalacia. This case report stands distinct i

Tumor-induced osteomalacia: a case report.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare paraneoplasic syndrome with overproduction of fibroblast growth factor 23 as a phosphaturic agent, leading to chronic hyperphosphaturia and hypophosphatemia, associated with inappropriately normal or low levels of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Diagnosis of this disease is often challenging. The following case report described a middle-aged man with symptoms of bone pain and severe muscle weakness, who was found to have TIO. The tumor responsible for the symptoms was localized on his thigh and its resection resulted in normalization of blood chemistry and c

[Treatment of malignant liver tumors in children: evaluation and prospects].

Rather discouraging in the past, treatment of malignant tumors in children allows today a 75% cure rate for hepatoblastoma. Complete surgical resection remains the ongoing basis of the treatment, but the main advances are due to more efficient chemotherapy protocols using cisplatin, to an improvement in imaging procedures, to modern techniques of anesthaesia, to aggressive surgery and treatment of metastases, and finally to liver transplantation when the extension of the tumor precludes total resection in the absence of metastasis. The management of children with malignant tumors should be per

Myolipoma of the round ligament: report of a case with a review of the English literature.

Tumours consisting of a mixture of mature adipose and smooth muscle tissues, including those designated lipoleiomyomas, fibrolipoleiomyomas and myolipomas, are exceedingly rare, but most often occur in the uterine corpus. We describe here a case of such a tumour arising in the right round ligament of a 44-year-old woman. The tumour, which measured approximately 20x15x10 cm, was well encapsulated and did not involve the intrapelvic organs. Intricate mixtures of adult adipose tissue and bland smooth muscle exhibited no cellular atypia or nuclear mitotic figures, and there was little vascular pro

Ectomesenchymal Chondromyxoid Tumor: A Rare Association With an Asymmetrical Soft Palate Cleft.

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (ECT) is a rare oral lesion first described by Smith et al. in 1995. These tumors are typically painless, slow growing and benign masses occurring predominantly on the anterior tongue dorsum. Prior to this seminal report, many ECTs may have been misdiagnosed due to the histological similarities with other lesions. Immunohistochemical stains aid in definitive diagnosis of an ECT. A total of 39 papers since published have reported 96 patients with ECT. Most lesions involve the anterior aspect of the tongue, with only 6 occurring in the posterior tongue and 2 i

Primary sarcomas of the lung.

Primary pulmonary sarcomas are rare tumors. Because the lung is one of the favored metastatic sites for soft tissue sarcomas, care must be taken when evaluating these lesions to rule out the possibility of an alternate primary source by means of thorough clinical history and radiographic evaluation. In addition to the difficulties involved in separating primary from metastatic tumors, pulmonary sarcomas must be distinguished from a number of sarcomalike primary lung neoplasms, including spindle and giant cell (pleomorphic) carcinoma, and from mixed epithelial/mesenchymal lesions such as pulmon

Hepatic mesenchymal sarcoma: MRI findings.

Hepatic undifferentiated mesenchymal sarcoma is a rare pediatric malignant neoplasm. We present three children, aged 7, 8, and 12 years, with this tumor. Clinical presentation was abdominal pain, palpable mass, asthenia, anorexia, and weight loss. One had jaundice. All three lesions were detected on ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI localized the lesions more accurately than the other methods, with good resectability correlation. On MRI, these tumors were markedly hyperintense on long TR/TE spin-echo (SE) and short-time inversion recovery (STI

Endolymphatic stromal myosis coexisting with adenocarcinoma of the uterus.

Carcinosarcoma of the uterine corpus containing endolymphatic stromal myosis (ESM) is extremely rare. This report describes the light- and electron-microscopic findings of ESM coexisting with adenocarcinoma of the uterus in a 58-year-old female. The polypoid tumor originated from the fundus uteri and filled the uterine cavity. In addition to papillary and medullary acinous adenocarcinoma at the apex of the polypoid mass, the major portion of the tumor specimen was composed of cells resembling endometrial stromal cells that infiltrated the myometrium and lymphatic channels, and a diagnosis of E
