A 10-year-old girl presented with colicky abdominal pain and a vague left sided mass on physical examination. Plain radiographs of the abdomen were unremarkable but ultrasound examination demonstrated a large right sided unilocular cystic abdominal mass. Computed tomographic features were diagnostic of volvulus of the proximal small bowel with associated mesenteric cyst. Surgery confirmed CT findings and no mid gut malrotation was noted at operation.

Mesenteric cyst is a rare benign cystic lesion of childhood that has a range of presentations varying from asymptomatic to acute abdomen. Hence, it is often an incidental finding or missed in diagnosis. Very few cases with complications have been reported. The underlying etiology still remains unknown despite multiple theories. Definitive diagnosis requires histopathological confirmation. We present a case of a 17-month-old girl with a large symptomatic hemorrhagic cyst who underwent complete excision of the cyst.

Recurrent small-bowel volvulus is a state of recurrent intermittent or long-standing persistent twisting of small-bowel loops around its mesentery. The association of mesenteric cysts with recurrent small-bowel volvulus as the cause or effect is a much debated issue in the literature. We report two cases of mesenteric lymphangioma and one case of enteric duplication cyst seen in association with recurrent small-bowel volvulus of long duration in absence of malrotation.

Mesenteric cysts are relatively rare tumors, and most patients present nonspecific abdominal symptoms until developing larger cysts. We report two cases of mesenteric cysts that were totally excised during laparoscopic surgery. The cysts of both patients were located in the mesenterium of the cecum or ascending colon. Under laparoscopy, the cyst was punctured to collect the cystic fluid for cytology and then completely removed without bowel resection. Histological examination revealed cystic lymphangiomas with endothelial cell lining. The postoperative course was uneventful. Laparoscopic treat

The incidence of mesenteric cysts is relatively uncommon. Sprague" examined its frequency and noted that five large hospitals located in the LosnAngeles area averaged one documented case of mesenteric cyst per 100,000 hospital admissions. The most common location appears to be the mesentery of the small bowel, especially that of the ileum. Cysts of the mesentery of the large bowel are somewhat less fre- quent, accounting for approximately 38% of the total incidence. Those involving the large bowel most commonly involve the mesentery of the sigmoid colon.

Pseudo-mesenteric cysts are exceptionally rare lesions, with limited reports of surgical management. This case highlights the novelty of enucleating a large infected pseudo-mesenteric cyst without intestinal resection, emphasizing its clinical significance. We report the case of a 64-year-old man who presented with acute abdomen. Computed tomography revealed a cystic lesion approximately 17 cm in size with an enhanced capsule in the sigmoid mesentery. Emergency surgery was warranted due to severe inflammation and inferior vena cava compression. Initial laparoscopy ruled out appendiceal abnorma

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Mesenteric cysts are a rare group of intra-abdominal tumors located in the mesentery or omentum, most of this lesion are asymptomatically but occasionally presents with non-specific symptoms, which makes diagnosis difficult.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present two cases of giant mesenteric cyst in our Institution, the first case is a women of 23 years with previous gynecologic surgery with chronic abdominal pain and large abdominal mass CT showed a giant intraabdominal 30 × 25 × 15 cm, the patient went to laparotomy and a large mesenteric tumor found. The Histopathology

A case of mesenteric cyst in a five-year-old male child who presented with acute abdomen due to an infarcted polyp present within the cyst is reported. To the best of our knowledge, such an event has never been reported in the literature previously.

Mesenteric cysts are rare. In this paper we present a case of a mesenteric cyst in the sigmoid colon of a 3-year-old girl. On the first visit to our department, a smooth-surfaced soft mass approximately 15 cm in diameter was noticed in the right lower abdomen. Although the patient complained of lower abdominal pain, there was no tenderness or guarding. Laboratory tests indicated no abnormality except a slightly increased level of C-reactive protein (2.3 mg/dL). A plain abdominal X-ray film revealed displacement of colonic gas from the right lower abdomen, and abdominal ultrasonography and comp

BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cysts are rare intra-abdominal lesions and account for only one in 100,000 acute adult admissions. There is a broad spectrum of symptoms and patients present with nonspecific complaints of abdominal pain, distension, or an abdominal mass. In this study, we present a series of patients with mesenteric cysts, with emphasis on the presentation, management, and outcome.
METHODS: A total of 16 cases presented to our institution from 1994 to 2007. The cases were retrospectively reviewed and information was culled from the case documents.
RESULTS: There were nine females and

Cystic lesions of the mesentery, omentum, and retroperitoneum are rare; from 1956 to 1990, 22 patients had operative treatment for such lesions at our institution. They ranged in age from 1 month to 14 years; 75% were younger than 5 years. All had either an acute abdomen or, more commonly, a silent abdominal mass. In all cases, the histologic diagnosis was lymphangioma. Abdominal ultrasonography was done in all cases after 1977 except for two patients who had an acute abdomen requiring emergency exploration. A cystic abdominal mass was diagnosed in 94% of these cases, but the correct diagnosis

BACKGROUND: Mesenteric cyst is a rare clinical entity especially in pregnancy; therefore, few cases have been reported in the literature. The standard method of their treatment is surgical excision either with laparotomy or laparoscopy. In addition, mesenteric vein thrombosis is a rare and life-threatening condition in pregnancy and needs immediate treatment because it can lead to intestinal necrotic ischemia. This is the first report of the coexistence of mesenteric cysts and mesenteric vein thrombosis during gestation.

We present the case of a 64-year-old woman who developed a postoperative small bowel-cutaneous enterocutaneous fistula (ECF) following excision of a large sigmoid mesenteric duplication cyst. Mesenteric duplication cysts are rare congenital anomalies, most frequently arising in the ileum, with sigmoid involvement being exceptionally uncommon in adults. They may present with abdominal pain, mass effect, or be discovered incidentally, and complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice. However, postoperative complications such as ECF formation are uncommon and can be challenging to manage

Chylous mesenteric cyst is a very rare case, with some vague clinical findings, and it is hard to establish the diagnosis before surgery. The most common complaints post-surgery are abdominal pain and abdominal distention. We report a case of chylous mesenteric cyst in a 4-year-old boy with chief complaint of a lump in the abdomen. Preoperative abdominal ultrasound study could not identify the origin of the mass, and suspected it as a tuberculous peritonitis. A repeat ultrasound examination revealed a multicystic mass, suspected as lymphangioma. From the exploratory laparotomy, we noted a gian

Vitello-intestinal [omphalo-mesenteric duct (OMD)] connects the developing mid-gut to the primitive yolk sac, provides nutrition to the embryo and remains patent and connected to the intestines until the fifth to ninth week of gestational period. Varied remnants of the vitello-intestinal duct have been reported. The present case-report describes a completely obliterated fibrous remnant of the duct. The remnant presented as a thick cord extending from the umbilicus towards the terminal part of the ileum and beyond. The terminal part of the cord showed a few ramifications that ended in the mesen

This is a unique case of a suspected huge mesenteric cyst in a pediatric patient presenting as an ascitic process. The patient had an insidious clinical presentation and had no predisposing factors. Mesenteric cysts are extremely rare in pediatrics.

Mesenteric cysts are one of the rare causes of intra-abdominal masses. They account for 1 in 100,000 cases in adults and 1 in 20,000 cases in children. Mesenteric cysts are commonly found in the small intestine, up to 60% of cases, and occasionally in the colon. The clinical presentation of patients with mesenteric cysts is so variable and nonspecific. It ranges from being asymptomatic to features of acute abdomen very rarely. Surgery is the treatment of choice. Complete excision with negative margins plays a curative role in avoiding the risk of recurrence as well. Here, we present the case o

INTRODUCTION: A Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. They arise from the middle-to-distal ileum. Contrary to MD, intestinal duplication cyst (IDC) is uncommon congenital anomaly of GI, but can occur anywhere from the tongue to the anus.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: Here we report an 18-year-old male who presented to the department of abdominal surgery with chronic abdominal pain, frequent vomiting and mild abdominal distension. Following radiological investigation, a laparotomy was performed with the preoperative diagnosis of a mesenter
