Infraocclusion level and root resorption of the primary molar in second premolar agenesis: A retrospective cross-sectional study in the Portuguese population.

BACKGROUND: Mandibular second premolar (M2P) agenesis results in the second primary molar (2pm) retention, infraocclusion, a reduced alveolar height and width, the supraeruption of antagonists, or the movement of the adjacent teeth. Infraocclusion affects the survival of the retained 2pm to a greater extent than root resorption. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to evaluate the lifespan of the primary molar as a substitute, with root quality and occlusal adaptation, in cases of M2P agenesis in a low-income population to determine if the attitude of just vigilance could be the best clinical

Effects of two types of low-level laser wave lengths (850 and 630 nm) on the orthodontic tooth movements in rabbits.

The effects of low-level lasers on bone cellular activity, bone structures, bone healing, fibroblasts activity and inflammation process have already been investigated. Considering orthodontic tooth movement, which is a complicated inflammatory process involving simultaneous bone apposition and resorption, the aim of this controlled study is to investigate the quantitative effects of a pulsed 850 nm laser (Optodan) and a continuous 630 nm laser (KLO3) on the orthodontic tooth movement in rabbits. This experimental study was conducted on 18 male albino rabbits divided into three equal groups of

Evaluation of interleukin-1 beta and the ratio of interleukin-1 beta to interleukin-1 receptor antagonist in gingival crevicular fluid during orthodontic canine retraction.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is a complex phenomenon mediated by cytokines, of which interleukin-1 beta (IL‑1β) is potently involved in the remodeling of the periodontal ligament (PDL) and bone. Whether the pattern of IL‑1β release differs at the sides of tension and compression is not yet clarified. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the level of IL‑1β and the ratio of IL‑1β to interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL‑1RA) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) at the tension and compression sides during orthodontic canine retraction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sev

Measuring Maxillary Posterior Tooth Movement: A Model Assessment using Palatal and Dental Superimposition.

Since the introduction of Invisalign by Align Technology, Inc. in 1999, questions and debates have persisted regarding the precision of Invisalign (clear aligner) therapy, particularly when compared to the use of traditional fixed appliances. This becomes particularly significant in cases involving anteroposterior, vertical, and transverse corrections, where precise comparisons are of paramount importance. To address these inquiries, this study introduces a meticulously devised protocol, placing a primary emphasis on digitally superimposing the movement of maxillary posterior teeth to facilita

Changes in the Periodontal Gap After Long-Term Tooth Movement into Augmented Critical-Sized Defects in the Jaws of Beagle Dogs.

Background/Objectives: Extensive and closely coordinated remodeling processes take place in the periodontal ligament (PDL) and the adjacent bone during orthodontic tooth movement. In complex orthodontic cases, it is necessary to move teeth into an augmented bony defect, for example, in patients with cleft lip, alveolus, and palate. The important role of the PDL during tooth movement is well accepted but not fully understood. Therefore, the present study investigated the PDL after 23 weeks of tooth movement into an augmented critical-sized defect. Methods: The second molars of four beagle dogs

Continuous tooth eruption in Australian aboriginal skulls.

Increases in the distance from the cemento-enamel junction to the alveolar crest (CEJ-AC) have often been attributed to senile atrophy of the bone or to the effects of periodontitis, without reference to the condition of the alveolar crest. This study investigated the relationship between CEJ-AC distance, tooth wear, gender, site of the CEJ-AC measurements, and age in 161 pre-white-contact Australian aboriginal skulls. Individual teeth were included in the study when there was no evidence of dehiscence, periodontitis, or abscess cavity formation in the supporting alveolar bone. The CEJ-AC dist
