Explainable AI for sentiment analysis of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) using XLNet.

The outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China, which later spread to the UK and other countries, raised significant public concern due to its potential impact on vulnerable populations. While HMPV typically causes mild symptoms, its effects on the elderly and immunocompromised individuals prompted health authorities to emphasize preventive measures. Moreover, continuous monitoring of respiratory viruses like HMPV remains important, as new factors (such as emerging variants) could alter their behavior over time. These factors have led to mixed public reactions, with some individuals exp

First Molecular Characterization of Avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) in Turkish Broiler Flocks.

Viral respiratory diseases, including avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), have a significant economic impact on poultry industries. The frequency and genotype diversity of aMPV in Turkish broiler flocks is not known at present. The aim of this study was to report the first molecular identification and phylogeny of aMPV, which is circulating in Turkish broiler flocks. Trachea tissue samples and tracheal swabs were collected from 110 broiler flocks distributed in different geographical regions in Turkey between March 2017 and March 2018. Detection of aMPV was confirmed with the use of universal revers

Human lung epithelial cells support human metapneumovirus persistence by overcoming apoptosis.

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) has been identified as a major cause of lower respiratory tract infection in children. Epidemiological and molecular evidence has highlighted an association between severe childhood respiratory viral infection and chronic lung diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Currently, animal models have demonstrated the ability of hMPV to persist in vivo suggesting a role of the virus in asthma development in children. However, mechanisms involved in hMPV persistence in the respiratory tract are not yet understood. In the present study we monito

Human metapneumovirus epidemiological and evolutionary patterns in Coastal Kenya, 2007-11.

BACKGROUND: Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is an important global cause of severe acute respiratory infections in young children and the elderly. The epidemiology of HMPV in sub-Saharan Africa is poorly described and factors that allow its recurrent epidemics in communities not understood. METHODS: We undertook paediatric inpatient surveillance for HMPV in Kilifi County Hospital (KCH) of Coastal Kenya between 2007 and 2011. Nasopharyngeal samples collected from children aged 1 day-59 months admitted with severe or very severe pneumonia, were tested for HMPV using real-time polymerase chain reac

Immunization with avian metapneumovirus harboring chicken Fc induces higher immune responses.

In this study, we evaluated the immune responses of avian metapneumovirus harboring chicken Fc molecule. Stable Vero cells expressing chicken Fc chimera on its surface (Vero-cFc) were established, and we confirmed that aMPV grown in Vero-cFc incorporated host derived chimera Fc into the aMPV virions. Immunization of chicken with aMPV-cFc induced higher level of antibodies and inflammatory cytokines; (Interferon (IFN)-γ and Interleukin (IL)-1β) compared to those of aMPV. The increased levels of antibodies and inflammatory cytokines in chicken immunized with aMPV-cFc were statistically significa

Isolation and identification of a subtype C avian metapneumovirus in chickens in Jiangsu, China.

Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a viral pathogen that mainly causes respiratory signs and drops in egg production in turkeys, chickens, and ducks. Here, an aMPV subgroup C (aMPV/C) strain, designated GX22-01, was isolated and identified from severe respiratory disease in broiler breeder chickens in 2022 in Jiangsu, China, as evidenced by indirect immunofluorescence and western blotting using specific anti-viral protein antibodies and by sequence analysis of viral nucleoprotein (N) gene. N gene sequencing indicated that the GX22-01 strain shares a high identity (94.3%-99.8 %) with aMPV/C isolat

Phylogenetic and phylodynamic analyses of subtype-B metapneumovirus from chickens in Tunisia.

Swollen Head Syndrome (SHS) is an economically important viral disease of chickens caused by avian metapneumovirus (aMPV). The virus comprises 6 different subtypes (A,B,C,D, New-1 and New-2). To date, no information was available on the presence of the virus in Tunisian poultry. The present work aims to detect the presence of (aMPV) in broiler chicken in Tunisia, then to characterise the isolates in order to determine their subtype and to estimate their geographic origin of introduction. A total of 289 samples were collected, aMPV detection was detected by real time RT-PCR and molecular charac

A 1-year experience with human metapneumovirus in children aged <5 years.

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is a recently discovered respiratory pathogen. We tested respiratory specimens for the presence of hMPV by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. These specimens were obtained over a 1-year period from children aged <5 years and had negative results by the direct fluorescent antibody test for respiratory syncytial virus, influenza A and B, parainfluenza viruses 1-3, and adenovirus. Overall, 54 (8.1%) of 668 individuals tested positive for hMPV. During March and April of the study period, hMPV was detected in 17.6% and 25.0% of specimens tested, respective

Human metapneumovirus: Insights into immune evasion, pathogenesis and liposome-based vaccine strategies.

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) remains a major contributor to respiratory diseases, particularly affecting infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. HMPV, first identified in 2001, has been a prominent cause of respiratory tract infections, ranging from mild upper respiratory symptoms to severe pneumonia and bronchiolitis. Despite its impact, there are currently no licensed vaccines or specific antivirals treatments targeting HMPV. The virus evades host immunity by suppressing interferon signaling through pathways such as RIG-I/MAVS and JAK-STAT, and by impairing dendritic cell ma

Human Metapneumovirus Pneumonia Precipitating Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in an Adult Patient.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is often due to direct lung injury, trauma, surgery, or infection. Making a definitive diagnosis may be difficult initially, as clinical manifestations are nonspecific until the disease progresses. We present a case of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) pulmonary infection precipitating ARDS. A 51-year-old woman presented with one week of pleuritic chest pain, dyspnea, wheezing, subjective fever, and productive cough prior to presentation. Her medical history was significant for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with an unknown CD4 count and viral load, pu
