Gut microbiota and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy: evidence from the Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that gut microbiota (GM) is related to hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP). However, the causal relationship needs to be treated with caution due to confounding factors and reverse causation. METHODS: We obtained genetic variants from genome-wide association studies including GM (N = 18,340) in MiBioGen Consortium as well as HDP (7,686 cases/115,893 controls) and specific subtypes in FinnGen Consortium. Then, Inverse variance weighted, maximum likelihood, weighted median, MR-Egger, and MR.RAPS methods were applied to examine the causal association.

Impact of prebiotics and postbiotics in the management of constipation: Analysis of their differentiated modulation of intestinal microbiota.

Chronic constipation represents a burden in the modern world and is most prevalent in the elderly. Constipation has been linked to alterations in the gut microbiota, especially to an increase in methanogenic microorganisms. Prebiotics and some probiotics have already shown beneficial effects in constipation through improving stool consistency and modulating the gut microbiota. In the current double-blind, randomized and parallel-arm clinical study, 24 subjects with constipation were supplemented with NextDext™, a dextran prebiotic, or ABB C24, a prebiotic-postbiotic combination of NextDext™ an

Alterations in the Gut Microbiota of Tibetan Patients With Echinococcosis.

There are two main types of echinococcosis, namely alveolar echinococcosis (AE) and cystic echinococcosis (CE). They are zoonotic parasitic diseases caused by the metacestodes of Echinococcus multilocularis and Echinococcus granulosus. In order to explore the gut microbiome composition of patients with echinococcosis, we analyzed fecal samples of seven patients with AE, six patients with CE, and 13 healthy individuals from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China. Using metagenomic next-generation sequencing, we identified fecal bacteria in the patients with AE and CE. The gut microbiota was analyze

Calcium salts of long-chain fatty acids from linseed oil decrease methane production by altering the rumen microbiome in vitro.

Calcium salts of long-chain fatty acids (CSFA) from linseed oil have the potential to reduce methane (CH4) production from ruminants; however, there is little information on the effect of supplementary CSFA on rumen microbiome as well as CH4 production. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of supplementary CSFA on ruminal fermentation, digestibility, CH4 production, and rumen microbiome in vitro. We compared five treatments: three CSFA concentrations-0% (CON), 2.25% (FAL) and 4.50% (FAH) on a dry matter (DM) basis-15 mM of fumarate (FUM), and 20 mg/kg DM of monensin (MON).

Metagenomic Analysis Reveals Microbial Interactions at the Biocathode of a Bioelectrochemical System Capable of Simultaneous Trichloroethylene and Cr(VI) Reduction.

Bioelectrochemical systems (BES) are attractive and versatile options for the bioremediation of organic or inorganic pollutants, including trichloroethylene (TCE) and Cr(VI), often found as co-contaminants in the environment. The elucidation of the microbial players' role in the bioelectroremediation processes for treating multicontaminated groundwater is still a research need that attracts scientific interest. In this study, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and whole shotgun metagenomics revealed the leading microbial players and the primary metabolic interactions occurring in the biofilm gr

Abnormal weight gain and gut microbiota modifications are side effects of long-term doxycycline and hydroxychloroquine treatment.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Doxycycline has been proposed for the treatment of malnourished children in developing countries, and its use has been associated with weight gain in healthy volunteers. No previous studies have assessed abnormal weight gain as a putative side effect of long-term doxycycline treatment; thus, the objective of the present study was to characterize this phenomenon. We also analyzed the role of the gut microbiota in this effect. We assessed changes in the body mass index in Q fever endocarditis patients treated with doxycycline and hydroxychloroquine and healthy individuals with no antibiotic trea

Causal relationship between gut microbiota and dental caries: A Mendelian randomization analysis.

The onset of dental caries is associated with multiple factors, including oral microbiota, dietary sugars, the defensive mechanisms of saliva and teeth, oral hygiene practices, and socioeconomic factors. However, its relationship with the gut microbiota remains to be further explored. It remains crucial to establish a definitive causal link between the gut microbiota and the development of dental caries. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between gut microbiota and the risk of dental caries, focusing on identifying specific microbial communities potentially implicated in i

Probiotic-fermented milk alleviates hypertension in preeclampsia rats and is associated with increases in branched fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids.

Branched fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs), a newly-discovered class of endogenous lipids closely associated with obesity, cardiovascular disease, and aging, are potential drug candidates or targets for the prevention and treatment of related conditions. The antihypertensive potential of probiotic-fermented milk has been recognized, but its relevance to preeclampsia (PE) is unclear. It was hypothesized that probiotic-fermented milk could reduce blood pressure in PE rats and influence the contents of FAHFAs, with FAHFAs potentially playing a critical role in this process. To tes

Gut microbial signatures in poultry under low-protein diets and lysine restriction: implications for precision nutrition.

Three key signatures - microbial, nutritional, and epigenetic - are pivotal in nutrigenomics, mediating poultry responses to nutritional signals, such as low-protein diets (LPDs) and lysine restriction (LR). These multidimensional signatures - encompassing bacterial, archaeal, and fungal taxonomy, functional genes, and metabolomic profiles (short-chain fatty acids; SCFAs) - orchestrate host metabolism, immunity, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). This PRISMA-ScR scoping review synthesizes multi-omics evidence showing that LPDs shift cecal fermentation toward saccharolytic pathways, enriching but

Consistent signatures in the human gut microbiome of longevous populations.

Gut microbiota of centenarians has garnered significant attention in recent years, with most studies concentrating on the analysis of microbial composition. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding the consistent signatures of specific species and their biological functions, as well as the potential causal relationship between gut microbiota and longevity. To address this, we performed the fecal metagenomic analysis of eight longevous populations at the species and functional level, and employed the Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to infer the causal associations between micro

Optimized microbial DNA extraction from diarrheic stools.

BACKGROUND: The detection of enteropathogens in stool specimens increasingly relies on the detection of specific nucleic acid sequences. We observed that such detection was hampered in diarrheic stool specimens and we set-up an improved protocol combining lyophilization of stools prior to a semi-automated DNA extraction. FINDINGS: A total of 41 human diarrheic stool specimens comprising of 35 specimens negative for enteropathogens and six specimens positive for Salmonella enterica in culture, were prospectively studied. One 1-mL aliquot of each specimen was lyophilised and total DNA was extra
