Eccrine Angiomatous Hamartoma with Atypical Localization Treated by Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) is a rare hamartoma characterized by a benign proliferation of eccrine glands and vascular structures in the dermis. These tumors rarely regress spontaneously, so surgical excision of the involved tissue is required when pain or enlargement occurs. Here, the authors report the clinical case of a patient affected by an extremely painful EAH with the atypical localization at the last phalanx of the thumb of the right hand with involvement of nail matrix and nail bed. This report aims to emphasize the application of Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment o

Mohs surgery for female genital Paget's disease: a prospective observational trial.

BACKGROUND: Extramammary Paget's disease recurs often after traditional surgical excision. Margin-controlled surgery improves the recurrence rate for male genital disease but is less studied for female anatomy. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare surgical and oncologic outcomes of margin-controlled surgery vs traditional surgical excision for female genital Paget's disease. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a prospective observational trial of patients with vulvar or perianal Paget's disease treated with surgical excision guided by Mohs micrographic surgery between 2018 and 2022. The multidiscip

Recurrence Rate for Melanoma Excised by Mohs Micrographic Surgery Without Immunostaining.

BACKGROUND: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is becoming increasingly popular for the treatment of cutaneous melanoma (CM) as multiple studies have demonstrated favorable outcomes for local recurrence and overall survival. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the outcomes of noninvasive (NIM) and invasive melanomas (IM) using MMS with fresh frozen sections. The primary outcome was local recurrence. The secondary outcome was to identify mean surgical margins based on tumor type and location. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of 224 cases of CM treated from 2006 to 2016 at a tertiary academic center with MM

Cutaneous mesenchymal tumors treated with Mohs micrographic surgery: a comprehensive review.

Cutaneous mesenchymal tumors (CMT) are rare tumors with wide clinicopathologic heterogeneity. Treatment of malignant cutaneous mesenchymal tumors traditionally includes wide local excision (WLE), though Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) has been increasingly used. A PubMed literature review of articles from inception until September 2019 related to malignant CMT and surgical treatment with MMS or WLE was completed. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans treated with MMS recurred in 1.2% of patients with no reported metastasis. Atypical fibroxanthoma treated with MMS recurred and metastasized in 2.7 and

Slow Mohs Micrographic Surgery for Acral Melanoma Treatment in Korean Patients.

BACKGROUND: Obtaining conventional wide surgical margins is challenging in melanomas occurring at anatomically complex sites (e.g., hands and feet). OBJECTIVE: We investigated the potential benefits of slow Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) for acral melanomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-center retrospective study investigated 210 patients who underwent slow MMS (n = 66) or wide local excision (WLE, n = 144) for melanomas during 2005 to 2015. Slow MMS was used for melanomas in anatomically complex locations and for high-risk lesions. RESULTS: Acral melanoma (166/210) was the most comm

Lip-lift Flap for Columellar-Nasal Base Reconstruction after Mohs Surgery.

Reconstruction of columellar and nasal base defects remains challenging because of the region's aesthetic and functional importance. Squamous cell carcinoma in situ in this area often necessitates Mohs micrographic surgery, which can result in composite tissue loss that is difficult to restore with conventional techniques. We report the case of an 89-year-old woman presenting with a 1-cm lesion at the left nasal base and columella. The tumor was excised in a single Mohs stage with histologically clear margins. Reconstruction was achieved using a lip-lift-style advancement flap designed along t

Beyond the Surface: Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Diagnosis During Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia in adults, characterized by the accumulation of abnormal lymphocytes in the blood and bone marrow. Its incidence increases with age, typically affecting older adults, with a median age at diagnosis around 70 years. CLL prevalence varies geographically, with higher rates observed in Western countries compared to Asian populations. Despite advancements in treatment, CLL remains an incurable disease, often managed through monitoring and therapy to control symptoms and slow disease progression. The purpose of this case report i
