[The optimization of the duration of the sanatorium-health resort treatment of patients with neurological manifestations of spinal osteochondrosis (I)].

Short-term mud therapy (10 daily peat [correction of moor] applications) has been performed in patients with neurological symptoms of spinal osteochondrosis. Such short-term courses are indicated in the absence of exacerbation of the basic and associated diseases under domination of the radicular and reflex syndromes. High efficacy and good tolerance of the treatment are confirmed by vertebroneurological investigations and functional diagnostic tests.

[An experimental and clinical validation of a method for treating acute inflammatory diseases of the adnexa uteri by using the electrophoresis of a therapeutic mud preparation].

Experimental and clinical investigations have demonstrated that the addition of abdominal-sacral electrophoresis of esobel 1% solution to combined therapy of acute inflammation of the uterine appendages improves treatment results. Bioantioxidants bring about the antiinflammatory action of the mud preparation esobel while its high-polar lipids prevent structural-metabolic impairment of the appendages' tissue elements as shown by a pronounced antiexudative effects and weak secondary alteration.

[Possibility of using intensive peloid balneotherapy on duodenal ulcer patients].

The authors studied effectiveness of intensive peloidobalneotherapy (PBT)--daily peloids, baths and drinking mineral water--in 124 patients with duodenal ulcer in attenuating exacerbation and incomplete clinical remission. The condition of the gastroduodenal zone was studied with intragastric pH-metry, esophagogastroduodenoscopy with spot biopsy, usease test, rheohepatography. Intensive PBT reduced the time of the treatment by 8-10 days, faster relieved clinical symptoms, raised the number of ulcer healings, normalized acid function of the stomach, prolonged long-term effect. Sequential conditioning in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in elderly high-risk myeloid blood cancer patients: long-term survival, disease control, and immune recovery across donor types in a matched-pair analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sequential conditioning allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) regimens might offer improved disease control in high-risk myeloid patients. But concerns remain regarding toxicity, infection risk and delayed immune reconstitution (IR), particularly in older and HLA-haploidentical transplant recipients. To address these concerns, we comprehensively compared safety, feasibility and clinical outcome across HLA-matched related (MRD), matched unrelated (MUD) and haploidentical donor (Haplo) HSCT and longitudinally characterize IR patterns and their associations wi

Psychosocial and pharmacologic interventions for problematic methamphetamine use: Findings from a scoping review of the literature.

RATIONALE: Methamphetamine use and related harms have risen at alarming rates. While several psychosocial and pharmacologic interventions have been described in the literature, there is uncertainty regarding the best approach for the management of methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) and problematic methamphetamine use (PMU). We conducted a scoping review of recent systematic reviews (SR), clinical practice guidelines (CPG), and primary controlled studies of psychosocial and pharmacologic treatments for MUD/PMU. METHODS: Guided by an a priori protocol, electronic database search updates (e.g.,

[The treatment of patients with chronic sialadenitis resulting from salivary outflow disorder].

The author analyzes the results of treatment of 128 patients with chronic sialadenitis by original surgical and conservative organ-preserving methods. Narrowed orifice of the submandibular duct and excessive curves of the parotid duct in the buccinator were surgically corrected. Conservative therapy included electrophoresis of residues of the Saki Lake therapeutic mud, followed by ultrasonic therapy. These pathogenetically based methods proved to be fairly effective. Removal of stenosed sites of the ducts resulted in alleviation of inflammation symptoms in 103 (80.47%) patients and in clinical

Impact of post-transplant cyclophosphamide and anti-thymocyte globulin on immune reconstitution in MUD allo-HCT.

Insufficient immune reconstitution (IR) is a major determinant of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Strategies for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)-prophylaxis, such as anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) and post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy), modulate immune recovery, but their effects on IR in matched unrelated donor (MUD) allo-HCT remain incompletely defined. In this retrospective bi-centric study, we analyzed patients with myeloid malignancies undergoing MUD allo-HCT who received ATG or PTCy per center policy. Longitudinal IR and clinic

Comparable outcomes of HSCT up-front and after failure of IST in pediatric aplastic anemia in recent years.

We investigated the outcomes of 179 pediatric patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) who received up-front hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT; n = 87) or received HSCT after failure of immunosuppressive therapy (IST; n = 92). With a median follow-up of 4.0 years (range, 0.2-10.7) after HSCT, 161 patients were alive at last follow-up. The cumulative incidence of graft failure, grade 2 to 4 acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was 10%, 18%, and 8%, respectively. Five-year overall survival (OS) and GVHD-free, relapse/rejection-free survival (GRFS) were 89% and 79%, re

Spa therapy in dermatology.

Spa therapy constitutes the use of mineral springs and thermal mud to soothe and heal various ailments. Like the mineral springs, seas and oceans are also important centers for spa therapy of which the most important is Dead Sea (DS). DS has been famous for thousands of years for its miraculous curative and cosmetic properties. Intensive research is going on using DS minerals in a wide range of dermatological conditions especially psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo and other eczemas and several papers have been published in various international and pharmacological journals.

Unrelated donor transplantation offers a real curative opportunity for patients with transfusion-dependent thalassaemia. A multicenter retrospective study on behalf of the Spanish group for hematopoietic transplantation and cellular therapy (GETH-TC).

INTRODUCTION: Patients with transfusion-dependent b-thalassaemia (TDT) suffer from severe anemia, both primary and secondary iron overload and end-organ damage. Although new disease-modifying and curative therapies are emerging, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains the most widely available curative option for TDT patients. This study aims to compare HSCT outcomes according to the type of donor used, considering not only survival, but also graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and other transplant-related complications. METHODS: A multicentre retrospective study was conducted, in
