Endoscopic surgery for multilevel spinal stenosis: a comprehensive meta-analysis and subgroup analysis of uniportal and biportal approaches.

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS) has shown promising results, and endoscopic spine surgery has emerged as a less invasive approach. Although studies have examined the effectiveness of endoscopic surgery for spinal stenosis, no meta-analyses have focused on multilevel cases. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of uniportal and biportal endoscopy in patients with multilevel spinal stenosis. The patient, intervention, comparison, outcomes, and study criteria were established to guide study selection. Four databases were searched. The outcome measures included patien

Regional disparities and predictors of childhood diarrhea in Ethiopia: a multilevel logistic regression analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Diarrheal disease is a significant public health concern, especially among children under the age of five. Its burden is particularly high in low-income countries, including Ethiopia. However, there is a lack of recent, nationally representative studies that adequately identify individual and community-level factors to inform effective interventions. Hence, this study aimed to fill this gap. METHODS: This study utilized data from the national representative Health Equity Survey, conducted in all regional states and two city administrations of Ethiopia. A total of 8,747 mothers w

Divergent neurobehavioral signatures of anxiety and depression: a multilevel comparative analysis in adult zebrafish.

BACKGROUND: Stress-related psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression require robust preclinical models for mechanistic exploration. In this study, we utilized adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) to investigate behavioral, molecular, and metabolic differences between anxiety- and depression-like states. METHODS: Anxiety was modeled using acute predator exposure, whereas depression was induced via a 21-day chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) protocol. Evaluations included behavioral assays, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, untargeted metabolomic profiling, and gene expression analyses.

Regional determinants of quality of care for sick children: A multilevel analysis in four countries.

BACKGROUND: The limited impact of increased access to care on improvements in health outcomes during the Millennium Development Goal era has been attributed, in part, to inadequate quality of care. We identified regional factors associated with health service quality for sick child care in low-income countries and examined whether provider factors interact with regional factors to affect the quality of care. METHODS: We conducted cross-sectional random intercept four-level linear regression using the most recent Service Provision Assessment and Demographic Health Survey data from four countri

Globalization and social distance: Multilevel analysis of attitudes toward immigrants in the European Union.

Attitudes toward immigrants can, to a large extent, be determined by certain macro contextual factors. This paper tests a number of proposed hypotheses to illustrate patterns of influence generated by economic and social globalization on perceived social distance relative to immigrants. The European Union (EU) constitutes an ideal study case as its Member States vary in exposure to globalization and attract immigrants from different countries of origin. We conduct a multilevel analysis combining individual level variables from Eurobarometer's recent dataset collected in 2017 and country-level

Quality of care in sterilization services at the public health facilities in India: A multilevel analysis.

Female sterilization is the most popular contraceptive method among Indian couples, and the public sector is the major source of sterilization services in the country. However, concerns remain on the quality of services provided, deaths, failures, and complications following sterilization. In this paper, we study the complexities around the quality of care in female sterilization services at public health facilities and identify strategies for improving the measurement of such quality. A better understanding of these issues could inform pragmatic strategies for enhancing quality. This study us

A multilevel analysis of the determinants of high-risk sexual behaviour in sub-Saharan Africa.

A number of authors have identified multiple concurrent sexual partnerships by both men and women to lie at the root of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. This study applies multilevel models to Demographic and Health Survey data collected during 2003-2008 in 20 sub-Saharan African countries to examine the influence of social and cultural context on involvement with multiple sexual partnerships in the region, above and beyond the effects of individual characteristics. The findings provide support for the ecological argument that health behaviours are shaped and determined by societal

Early Mortality Following Systemic Anticancer Therapy in Lung Cancer: A Bayesian Spatiotemporal Multilevel Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Despite advances in lung cancer treatment, early mortality following Systemic Anticancer Therapy (SACT) remains a major concern. Identifying patients at high risk of early mortality may inform treatment decision-making, particularly where SACT may offer limited benefit. We aimed to quantify spatiotemporal patterns of early mortality following SACT and to examine the relative contributions of individual- and area-level risk factors. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of data from the Victorian Lung Cancer Registry. Bayesian spatiotemporal multilevel models were used to as
