UNLABELLED: A major challenge for the speech-language pathology profession in many cultures is to address the mismatch between the "linguistic homogeneity of the speech-language pathology profession and the linguistic diversity of its clientele" (Caesar & Kohler, 2007, p. 198). This paper outlines the development of the Multilingual Children with Speech Sound Disorders: Position Paper created to guide speech-language pathologists' (SLPs') facilitation of multilingual children's speech. An international expert panel was assembled comprising 57 researchers (SLPs, linguists, phoneticians, and spe

This data article describes a multilingual annotated dataset for training and evaluating metadata extraction systems for scientific articles written in Persian, Arabic and English. The dataset consists of 635 JSON files, one per scientific article, holding the annotations of the article header and of the reference section. The article-level language distribution is 352 Persian (55.4 %), 142 English (22.4 %) and 141 Arabic (22.2 %). Of the 635 articles, 621 contain annotated reference sections; the remaining 14 contain header annotations only. In total, 17,832 individual reference strings are a

BACKGROUND: Nursing education increasingly requires graduates to assume instructional roles in multicultural care environments. In long-term and acute care settings, nurses frequently supervise and educate foreign caregivers, yet formal preparation for multilingual instructional practice remains limited.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to design and evaluate a Problem Based Learning intervention integrating English for Nursing Purposes (PBL-based ENP) to prepare nursing students for instructional roles involving foreign caregivers. Specifically, it examined the intervention's effectiveness in en

BACKGROUND: The global opioid crisis has intensified concerns regarding misuse, overdose-related mortality, and the associated social and economic burden of both prescribed and illicit opioids. Social media platforms provide large volumes of real-time data that enable the capture of public perceptions, emerging risks, and shifts in discourse. This study analyzes a decade of conversations on X to characterize temporal trends, identify thematic patterns, and compare the evolution of public discourse in English and Spanish on opioids and other analgesics. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was c

OBJECTIVE: The present study examined how years of immersion in a nondominant language affect (a) the degree of bilingualism as measured by picture naming scores and (b) the bilingual disadvantage relative to monolinguals.
METHOD: Forty-two older Spanish-English bilinguals named pictures in an expanded rapid administration version of the Multilingual Naming Test (MINT Sprint 2.0) in both languages and completed a language history questionnaire. English-speaking monolinguals (n = 138; from Gollan et al., 2024) named pictures in just one language.
RESULTS: Spanish-dominant bilinguals named mor

BACKGROUND: Clinicians globally recognize as exceptionally challenging the development of effective intervention practices for bi- or multilingual children with specific language impairment (SLI). Therapy in both or all of an impaired child's languages is rarely possible. An alternative is to develop treatment protocols that facilitate the transfer of therapy effects from a treated language to an untreated language.
AIMS: To explore whether cognates, words that share meaning and phonological features across languages, could be used to boost lexical retrieval in the context of multilingual SLI

Access to speech-language therapy (SLT) and audiology (AUD) research is critical for clinicians, researchers, policymakers and the public to fulfil the professional scope of practice, support advocacy and enable evidence-based service delivery. However, research locked behind paywalls disproportionately limits access for underserved communities and for clinician-researchers seeking tools in languages with scarce resources. Limited access to clinically applicable research disproportionately affects individuals needing SLT and/or AUD services in under-resourced languages and populations, where c

BACKGROUND: Geriatric care requires coordinated, interprofessional and person-centered approaches; however, geriatric competencies among healthcare professionals (HCP) vary considerably across Europe, and only limited data are available for the DACH (D: Deutschland, Germany; A: Austria; CH: Confoederatio Helvetica, Switzerland) region.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate self-perceived knowledge, relevance and interest regarding key geriatric topics and skills among HCPs in the DACH region and to compare findings with other European countries.

Purpose: To comparatively evaluate the accuracy, readability, and concision (word count) of 7 generative artificial intelligence platforms (GenAIs) that developed multilingual postoperative instructions (POIs) for pediatric dental procedures. Methods: Standard prompts were developed and uploaded to 7 trained or untrained GenAIs to create POIs for 5 pediatric dental procedures in 3 languages: English, Spanish, and Polish. Two masked, calibrated, bilingual, simulated parents assessed the accuracy, clarity, cultural neutrality, and language appropriateness of 70 GenAI-developed POIs using an ordi

BACKGROUND: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a condition commonly associated with dementia. Therefore, early prediction of progression from MCI to dementia is essential for preventing or alleviating cognitive decline. Given that dementia affects cognitive functions like language and speech, detecting disease progression through speech analysis can provide a cost-effective solution for patients and caregivers.
DESIGN-PARTICIPANTS: In our study, we examined spontaneous speech (SS) and written Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) scores from a 60-patient dataset obtained from the Mugla Univer

The patterns of long-term psychological response after disasters and pandemics remain unclear. We aimed to determine the trajectories for post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), depression and anxiety prevalence following disasters and pandemic exposure; and identify associated risk and protective factors. A systematic review of the English, Chinese, and Japanese longitudinal mental health literature was conducted. We searched Cochrane, MEDLINE, ProQuest, PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL (English), CNKI and SINOMED (Chinese) and CiNii (Japanese) for studies published between January

For decades , research has focused on American Sign Language/English bilingual education for d/Deaf and hard of hearing students whose families used English or ASL. However, a growing population of d/Dhh children come from households where languages other than English (e.g., Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese) are used. In a longitudinal case study, the authors document the K-12 educational pathway of a deaf Latina student. Anecdotal records, semistructured interviews, assessment data, and document reviews of the participant's school and clinical records are used to develop the case study. The findi

To conduct a multicenter evaluation comparing the diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning performance of two large language models (LLMs), DeepSeek-V3.2 and ChatGPT-5.2, across key prostate cancer (PCa) clinical scenarios, and to assess their multilingual adaptability in Chinese and English clinical environments. In this retrospective, multicenter study, 480 cases of pathologically confirmed PCa were enrolled from three tertiary hospitals between January 2023 and September 2025. Cases were stratified into four categories (n = 120 each): localized, treatment-naïve PCa (cT1-T2N0M0); post-radical tr

Background/Objectives: Large multinational mass gatherings can create healthcare encounters in which severe mental health screening signals require rapid recognition, confidential assessment, language support, and referral. During Hajj, culturally and linguistically diverse pilgrims may first disclose severe psychological symptoms in general medical or field settings rather than through specialist psychiatric pathways. This study estimated the prevalence, overlap, and adjusted correlates of severe screen-positive mental health symptom signals among adult multinational Hajj pilgrims in 2025 and

BACKGROUND: This paper investigates the perceptions of medical interns regarding the usefulness of non-mother tongue communication skills taught during the undergraduate curriculum at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. In 2003, the university decided to incorporate Afrikaans and IsiXhosa communication skills into the new MBChB curriculum in order to meet the Faculty of Health Sciences goals to promote quality and equity in healthcare, and to prepare graduating health practitioners for multilingual communities where they would be serving. Despite annual internal evaluations and review

BACKGROUND: Home-based swabbing has not been widely used. The objective of this analysis was to compare respiratory swabs collected by mothers of 7-12-year-olds living in low-income, multilingual communities in the United States with technician collected swabs.
METHODS: Retrospective data analysis of respiratory samples collected at home by mothers compared to technicians. Anterior nasal and throat specimens collected using flocked swabs were combined in dry tubes. Test was done using TaqMan array cards for viral and bacterial pathogens. BACKGROUND: International patient centredness concepts were suggested but never conceptualized from the patients' perspective. Previously, a literature review and a monolingual qualitative study defined 'patient-centred infertility care' (PCIC). The present study aimed to test whether patients from across Europe value the same aspects of infertility care.
METHODS: An international multilingual focus group (FG) study with 48 European patients from fertility clinics in Austria, Spain, the UK and Belgium, with deductive content analysis.
RESULTS: All specific care aspects important to participa

Breath-hold techniques, including Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) and Exhalation Breath Hold (EBH), are commonly used in radiation therapy to reduce radiation exposure to organs at risk while maintaining accurate tumour targeting. However, high failure rates during breath-hold simulations have been associated with patient anxiety and insufficient preparation-particularly when instruction is given only 20 min prior to the procedure. These challenges are amplified for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. To address this, a multilingual mobile application (a

Incidental word learning through reading plays a central role in vocabulary development. Multilingual children, for whom English is an additional language, bring relevant language-learning experience to the task of learning new words through reading in English. However, it is not yet known how this learning is shaped by properties of the contexts in which words are encountered, or by reader characteristics such as reading comprehension. This study used eye tracking to examine whether two text-based properties, contextual diversity and informativeness, as well as reading comprehension skill, af

BACKGROUND: Health-related social needs (HRSNs) such as housing instability, food insecurity, and transportation barriers are associated with adverse health outcomes and disproportionately affect racially and ethnically marginalized populations. Despite federal mandates and increased investments in screening infrastructure, HRSN screening tools are often implemented without sufficient patient input, potentially reducing engagement and reinforcing stigma.
OBJECTIVE: To describe a community-participatory process evaluation to co-design a HRSN screening tool with patients in a linguistically div
