Depression is a highly prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder worldwide. One currently accepted hypothesis of this pathogenesis is the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction, which involves oxidative stress and brain damage. Therefore, antioxidants, such as phenolic compounds, could be used in depression. In this study, we investigated the antidepressant-like and antioxidant effects of an aqueous extract of the leaves of three species of the genus Psidium, Myrtaceae family, in mice. The exotic Psidium guajava L. and the natives Psidium guineense Sw. and Psidium cattleianum Sabine (10, 1,

Melaleuca is one of the genera of the Myrtaceae family enriched in tea tree oil (TTO). Tea tree oils of Melaleuca bracteata and Melaleuca alternifolia are of prime importance and have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Terpinen-4-ol and 1-8 cineole are major constituents of M. alternifolia oil. The percentages of the compounds in the oils can slightly vary according to the region of plant harvest, the distillation technique, or the part of the plant used for oil extraction. TTO has a bactericidal effect against various bacterial species such as Bacillus cereus, B. subtilis, E. coli, Pse

Highly efficient phosphorus (P)-use strategies have evolved in plants, allowing them to thrive in severely P-impoverished environments. However, it remains unclear how allocating leaf P to biochemical fractions, including specific P-containing metabolites, contributes to instantaneous photosynthetic P-use efficiency (iPPUE) and the position of species along the leaf economics spectrum (LES). We measured LES-associated traits (leaf mass per area, light-saturated photosynthetic rate, and P and nitrogen concentrations) and iPPUE in 12 coexisting Proteaceae, Fabaceae, Myrtaceae and Ericaceae from

Zoonotic viral diseases have continued to threaten global public health in recent decades, with rodent-borne viruses being significant contributors. Infection by rodent-carried hantaviruses (HV) can result in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in humans, with varying degrees of morbidity and mortality. However, no Food and Drug Administration (FDA) vaccines or therapeutics have been approved for the treatment of these diseases. In an effort to identify antiviral bioactive molecules, we isolated four oligomeric phloroglucinols from Callistemon r
