Paenibacillus larvae, the causative agent of the devastating honey-bee disease American Foulbrood, produces the cationic polyketide-peptide hybrid paenilamicin that displays antibacterial and antifungal activity. A transcription system for Toscana virus (TOSV) (a member of the family BUNYAVIRIDAE:, genus PHLEBOVIRUS:) was constructed. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the effect of peptide N-terminal histidine and C-terminal isoleucine (PHI) with that of the beta-adrenergic agonist isoproterenol (ISO) on N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity and melatonin production in the cultured rat pineal gland.
