BACKGROUND: Although the treatment of children has been a core domain ofanthroposophic medicine since its inception, a systematic analysis of anthroposophic therapies in pediatric primary care is still lacking. This study describes the spectrum of diagnoses and therapies observed in children treated in everyday anthroposophic practice.
METHODS: Thirty-eight primary care physicians in Germany participated in this prospective, multicenter observational study on prescribing patterns. Prescriptions and diagnoses were reported for each consecutive patient. Multiple logistic regression analysis was

Background: Sleep disorders, particularly chronic insomnia (Nidranasha), represent an escalating global public health challenge associated with extensive neuropsychological and metabolic morbidities. While conventional pharmacotherapy provides immediate symptomatic relief, concerns regarding dependency, tolerance, and altered sleep architecture necessitate the evaluation of evidence-based complementary interventions. Ayurveda offers a comprehensive multi-modality framework for sleep health through internal adaptogenic herbs (Abhyantar Chikitsa), external oil-based therapies (Bahir Parimarjana)

In the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century sex and gender became crucial categories not only in the medical discourse of German speaking countries. At the very centre of this discourse was the idea of women as the weaker sex. Because of the paradigm shift in the history of medicine (due to the discovery of the cytopathology) the principle of a weaker sex seemed to be corroborated by scientific research, a fact which impacted on medical practice in many ways. "Nervous" disease evolved as the major threat "of our times," with urban girls, young women and "weak" young men be

OBJECTIVE: Otitis media is 1 of the most frequent diseases of early infancy and childhood and 1 of the most common reasons for children to visit a physician. In the past 2 decades, there has been a substantial increase in the diagnosis of otitis media worldwide. In the United States, 93% of all children have had at least 1 episode of acute otitis media (AOM) by 7 years of age. Otalgia is the hallmark of AOM. Most affected children either complain of earache or manifest behavior that the parents interpret as indicating ear pain. Treatment of the ear pain early in the course of AOM decreases bot

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major global health concern, causing 1.5 million deaths in 2020. Diagnostic tests for TB are often inaccurate, expensive, and inaccessible, making chest x-rays augmented with artificial intelligence (AI) a promising solution. However, whether providers are willing to adopt AI is not apparent.
OBJECTIVE: The study seeks to understand the attitude of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and informal health care providers, who we jointly call AIPs, toward adopting AI for TB diagnosis. We chose to study these providers as they a

From 2003 to 2005, deaths of 3 individuals as a result of cardiac arrest caused by hypocalcemia during chelation therapy were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Two were children, both of whom were treated with edetate disodium. At the time of this writing, the adult case was still under investigation. No previous cases of death resulting from hypocalcemia during chelation have been reported. From our experience and review of the literature, we suggest that health care providers who are unfamiliar with chelation consult an expert before undertaking treatment and that h

BACKGROUND: Noncommunicable diseases, particularly diabetes, pose a growing global burden, with India disproportionately affected. India also has a rich repository of traditional medical systems-Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, and homeopathy (AYUSH)-collectively governed under the Ministry of Ayush. These systems adopt a personalized and integrative approach to diabetes management, addressing glycemic control alongside metabolic and lifestyle factors. Despite growing use and evidence for AYUSH interventions, standardized evaluation methods remain limited.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide with considerable physical, psychological and socioeconomic impact. In parallel to traditional treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and immunotherapy, patients with cancer have increasingly turned towards Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in their quest for better quality of life, symptom relief and whole-person oriented approaches. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the role of CAM therapies in cancer management, including Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (eg, acupuncture), naturopath

INTRODUCTION: The first wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic created havoc and confusion in choosing appropriate treatment, as well as prophylaxis, due to its rapid surge, disease novelty, and lack of evidence-based literature. It was even more concerning among the healthcare workers (HCWs), who had to take care of patients, themselves, and their own families.
OBJECTIVE: This online survey-based study targeted finding the various options for COVID-19 precautionary or prophylactic measures opted for by HCWs.
METHODOLOGY: This was an observational study based on a predesign

Autosomal dominant spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are progressive neurodegenerative disorders which result in dysfunction of the neuronal systems of the spinal cord, brainstem, and cerebellum. The manifestations of daytime somnolence and abnormal sleep behavior have been described in SCA type 3 (SCA3) and SCA type 6 (SCA6), but as yet have not been described in SCA type 1 (SCA1). We report two cases of sleep disturbance, fatigue and excessive daytime somnolence in individuals with SCA1 and their progress through several therapies. These case studies are unique as they describe excessive daytim
