BACKGROUND: Gonorrhea is the second most commonly reported notifiable condition in the United States. Infrequently, Neisseria gonorrhoeae can cause disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI). Eculizumab, a monoclonal antibody, inhibits terminal complement activation, which impairs the ability of the immune system to respond effectively to Neisseria infections. Genetic detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae is replacing culture for increased diagnostic sensitivity. Specificity of several nucleic acid amplification tests is suboptimal. On a dairy cattle farm, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis was diagnosed in 29 (24%) calves and heifers aged from 2 weeks to 1 year old. The highest infection rate (18%) occurred in animals aged 3-6 months. BACKGROUND: Commensal Neisseria species are increasingly recognized as invasive pathogens. Neisseria peritoneal dialysis (PD) related peritonitis is extremely rare, and its clinical course remains unclear. This study aimed to provide an overview of the clinical characteristics and coutcomes of Neisseria peritonitis.
METHODS: This single-center study retrospectively reviewed all Neisseria peritonitis episodes diagnosed from 1 January 2014 to 31 March 2024. Demographics, biochemical data and clinical outcomes were recorded.
