BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) parasites remain a significant global challenge to livestock health and farm productivity, particularly in resource-limited regions. Accurate and reliable fecal egg count (FEC) methods are essential for quantifying parasite burden and evaluating anthelmintic efficacy. This study compared the diagnostic performance of the Mini-FLOTAC and the modified McMaster techniques for detecting GI parasites in West African Long-legged (WALL) sheep under field conditions in southern Benin. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted, during which 200 fresh fecal sample

BACKGROUND: In landscapes where wildlife and livestock co-graze, hosts are often poly-parasitised with diverse nematode and protozoan communities. The relationships between chronic, endemic parasite infections and host immune response is still unknown in many species, particularly for wildlife. Faecal ecoimmunological biomarkers allow physiological changes to be monitored in situ.
METHODS: Here we used an exploratory, cross-sectional study to examine the relationships between faecal immunological biomarkers and gastrointestinal parasitism in six wild and four domestic species of ungulates co-

Gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infection in sheep has been recognized globally as a major problem challenging animal health and production. The objective of this study is to use a molecular diagnosis of the prevalence for gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) dominant species of Kazakh sheep and its hybrid (Kazakh × Texel). The internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS-2) sequences of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) were used as the target sequence. In the study, three dominant species of nematodes, namely Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus spp., and Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) circumcincta from the Kazakh sheep a

PURPOSE: Several studies have been conducted to determine the prevalence and presence of helminth species in European brown hare populations in various parts of its geographical range. However, there are limited data on helminth species circulating among European brown hare populations in Türkiye. The aim of this study is to investigate the presence and prevalence of helminth species in European brown hares in Türkiye, to perform phylogenetic analyses of the identified species, and to determine haplotype diversity and network properties of Dicrocoelium dendriticum and Passalurus ambiguus. Helminth composition and burden data for dairy cows have not been reported for >40 years for Germany and even less information is available for Austria. In the context of two recent studies, helminth parasitism was studied in 32 cows (23 from six farms in Bavaria and Tyrol; 9 from one farm in Saxony) from pasture-based dairy farms necropsied during the housing period. Helminths were enumerated and identified based on morphological characters (all helminths but rumen flukes) or molecular techniques (rumen flukes). Thirteen species of gastrointestinal nematodes and two species each of liver fluk

Gastro-intestinal nematodes (GINs) are still of great concern in grazing ruminants, such as camelids, ovines and caprines, affecting animal health and productivity. This is mainly due to the development of anthelmintic resistance (AR) to the compounds used long term, without much evaluation on their efficacy, including ivermectin (IVM), the most used anthelmintic drug in livestock. The aims of this study were to determine the efficacy of IVM and identify which GIN species are affecting different ruminant farms in Quebec (QC), Canada. Firstly, we collected fecal samples from six farms with diff

Eprinomectin (MK-397 or 4"-epi-acetylamino-4"-deoxy-avermectin B1) is a novel avermectin selected for development as a topical endectocide for all cattle, including lactating dairy cows. Herein, we show its anthelmintic, insecticidal and miticidal activity. To determine its anthelmintic capabilities, eprinomectin was tested topically on Jersey calves at 0.08, 0.2, or 0.5 mg kg-1 in a probe formulation against experimental infections of adult Haemonchus placei, ostertagia ostertagi, Trichostrongylus axei, T. colubriformis, Cooperia oncophora, C. punctata, Nematodirus helvetianus, Oesophagostomu

A study of gastrointestinal nematodes in roe deer was carried out in the regional hunting reserves of Riaño and Mampodre, Province of León, Spain, to provide information on their prevalence and intensity of infection in relation to the sampling areas, age of the animals, and body weight. Through a regulated necropsy of the animals, all of them harbored gastrointestinal nematodes in their digestive tract, with a mean intensity of parasitism of 638 ± 646.1 nematodes/infected animal. Eleven genera were found and 18 species of gastrointestinal nematodes were identified, three of them polymorphic:

Macrocyclic lactone (ML) resistance in cattle gastrointestinal nematodes (GINs) is an increasing problem. Concurrent combination anthelmintic therapy incorporating an existing ML with a second drug class has been proposed to control cattle GINs while slowing the development of ML resistance. Two dose confirmation studies were conducted to investigate the efficacy of a new fixed-dose combination injectable (FDCI) anthelmintic against common cattle GINs known to negatively impact production. The FDCI is formulated with 5 mg/ml doramectin and 150 mg/ml levamisole hydrochloride (HCl). Cattle enrol

Three studies were performed to test the efficacy of an ivermectin/closantel injection (200 microg/kg(-1) ivermectin and 5 mg/kg(-1) closantel) in cattle. Two were experimentally induced infections of Ostertagia ostertagi, Cooperia oncophora and Fasciola hepatica in calves, and the third had natural field infections in cattle with several species of gastrointestinal nematodes and F. hepatica. In the two studies with artificial infections, four groups of 8 calves were used. All calves were infected with metacercariae on Day 0. Infection with the nematodes took place on Day 33 in groups 1 and 2
