Prostatic mesenchymal tumors encompass various benign and malignant neoplasms that may derived from the intrinsic prostatic stroma or from associated elements including muscle, connective tissue, blood vessels, and neural structures. The differential diagnosis of these tumors is broad and encompasses prostatic epithelial processes that demonstrate prominent spindle cell morphology, as well as mesenchymal tumors that secondarily involve the prostate. Benign and malignant cartilage- and bone-forming tumors arising in soft tissues are unusual. Hyaline cartilage tumors may easily be mistaken as malignant if the histologic criteria of intraosseous lesions are applied directly. Other chondroid- and bone-forming tumors also may be difficult to recognize. The correct pathologic diagnosis within this group of neoplasms requires close clinical correlation, as well as familiarity and careful interpretation of a broad histologic spectrum.

Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation, or Nora's lesion, is a rare benign tumour of the bone, most commonly described in the hands and feet. We present the case of a female patient in her 20s attending the hand clinic with a sudden onset, atraumatic swelling on the proximal phalanx of her right ring finger. The patient retains good hand function and remains asymptomatic 3 months after surgical excision. Our case highlights the importance of being aware of this diagnosis and differentiating it from other malignant, as well as benign tumours of the hand.

Osteomalacia induced by tumor is a rare phenomenon in which the resection of tumor is followed by dramatic amelioration of clinical signs and symptoms. We hereby report a case of a 66 years old male who presented with features of osteomalacia in which the characteristic clinical presentation was associated with the phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor, mixed connective tissue variant. The case is reported for its rarity.

This review attempts to demonstrate the spectrum of soft tissue masses encountered in the child's hand. The diagnosis may be suggested by the combination of physical exam and radiographs. Frequently the etiology of a soft tissue mass cannot be established by conventional radiographs and further imaging is necessary. MRI by virtue of its ability to provide detailed soft tissue characterization is the preferred method of imaging the problematic soft tissue mass.
