Intraosseous neurilemmoma of the cervical spine causing paraparesis and treated by resection and grafting.

A neurilemmoma presented as an expanding lesion of the bodies of C6 and C7 vertebrae and caused local neurological signs together with a spastic paraparesis. This tumour was treated by preliminary posterior fusion, followed by its complete removal via an anterior approach and stabilization by anterior spinal fusion. Other cases in the literature are reviewed and discussed.

Penile neurilemmoma: Utility of fine-needle aspiration cytology in diagnosis of a rare entity.

Subcutaneous lesions in the penis are of rare occurrence and encompass benign as well as malignant tumors. These include lipomas, leiomyomas, neurilemmomas and their malignant counterparts. A surgical excision at this site carries the risk of postoperative penile curvature and erectile dysfunction. We report a rare case of penile neurilemmoma which presented as a subcutaneous nodule on the dorsal surface of the penis. A fine-needle aspiration was performed which aided in the preoperative diagnosis and guided the extent of excision. We report this case to highlight the importance of needle aspi

Neurilemmoma of the first branch of the lateral plantar nerve causing tarsal tunnel syndrome.

In this article, the authors report a case of tarsal tunnel syndrome caused by neurilemmoma of the first branch of the lateral plantar nerve, with symptom resolved after excision. A 42-year-old man presented with left medial heel pain radiating to the lateral sole for 6 months. On examination, there was positive Tinel sign over the medial heel with pain radiating to the lateral sole. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a 1-cm neurogenic tumor inside the tarsal tunnel. Intraoperatively, a 1-cm neurilemmoma was found at the first branch of the lateral plantar

Neurilemmoma Masquerading a Dermoid Cyst at the Inferior Mandibular Margin: An Unusual Clinical Occurrence.

Neurilemmomas in the submental and submandibular region represent a diagnostic challenge, often mimicking more common superficial cysts. This is a case of neurilemmoma of the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve, initially diagnosed as a dermoid cyst via ultrasonography in a 65-year-old male with an 18-month history of a painless 1.5-cm mass. Histopathological examination of the excised lesion confirmed neurilemmoma. The mass was encapsulated and easily detached from the surrounding tissue; thus, successful excision without postoperative neurological deficits was ensured.

Using a modified far-lateral approach to remove hypoglossal neurilemmomas: notes on technique.

OBJECT: In this paper the authors describe a modified far-lateral transcondylar approach to remove hypoglossal neurilemmomas (HGNs). METHODS: Between September 2008 and June 2011, 11 consecutive patients with HGNs underwent tumor removal via a modified far-lateral transcondylar approach. The average age at presentation, tumor characteristics, cranial nerve (CN) deficits, and outcomes were assessed. The modified far-lateral transcondylar approach comprises several important steps. The first step is to remove the limited posterior aspect of the condylar facet to open the hypoglossal canal. The

Leiomyosarcoma of the broad ligament arising in a pre-existing pure neurilemmoma-like leiomyoma.

A 35-year-old woman presented with an adnexal mass which came out as a leiomyosarcoma of the broad ligament arising in a pre-existing pure neurilemmoma-like leiomyoma. This is the first reported case of leiomyosarcoma arising in a pure neurilemmoma-like leiomyoma, the third reported case at an unusually young age showing evidence of a pre-existing leiomyoma and the 12th reported case of leimyosarcoma of the broad ligament. Is the likelihood of malignant transformation, especially in large leiomyomas of the broad ligament, a rare event?

Posterior mediastinal neurilemmoma accompanied by intrapulmonary sequestration in the left lower lobe: A case report.

RATIONALE: The presence of a mediastinal neurilemmoma accompanied by intrapulmonary sequestration is a rare occurrence. The clinical symptoms of a neurilemmoma depend on the site of the tumor. Diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration mainly depends on the presence of aberrant feeding arteries. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 78-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a mediastinal space-occupying lesion of 50 years. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed 2 roundish low-density shadows in the left posterior mediastinum. DIAGNOSIS: The pathological findings of the upper cystic mass

Cerebral infarction due to carotid occlusion caused by cervical vagal neurilemmoma: report of a case.

BACKGROUND: We report a case of a 71-year-old woman with cerebral infarction due to occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) caused by a neck tumor. CASE DESCRIPTIONS: In 1998, the patient complained of mild hoarseness, and a diagnostic workup showed a cervical mass that was considered a benign neck tumor. In September 2000, she developed right-sided weakness. Diffusion-weighted MRI showed a high-intensity area in the territory of the left middle cerebral artery. Carotid angiography and ultrasonography revealed occlusion of the left ICA, which was due to compression by the neck tumor. S

Neurilemmoma of fronto-ethmoid paranasal sinuses: aggressive anterior skull base destructing tumor-a case report.

Neurilemmomas (Schwannomas) of sinonasal tract are very unusual. They are benign, slow-growing, usually solitary encapsulated perineural tumors. They arise from Schwann cells of the neural sheath of the peripheral nervous system including motor, sensory and autonomic nerves. They can occur throughout the body, but the head and neck region demonstrate a higher incidence of occurrence (25-45%). The sinonasal region, however, has the lowest incidence rate with only 3-4%. We report here a rare case of fronto-ethmoid sinus neurilemmoma that is locally destructing the anterior skull base and the lat

[Intestinal intussusception in pregnancy with obstruction, caused by benign neurilemmoma. Role of abdominal echocardiography in the preoperative diagnosis].

A rare case of intestinalm obstruction caused by intussusception of the small bowel due to an intraparietal benign neurilemmoma (synonym: benign schwannoma) in a patient 35th weeks pregnant is reported. It is assumed that intestinal intussusception during pregnancy is a rare complication and the diagnosis is made difficult due to the pregnancy itself, delaying the onset of symptoms and treatment. The echography was the determining factor for the diagnosis. The conclusion is drawn that surgical operation, associated or not with the cesarean section, should be carried out as quickly as possible

Supraclavicular-median sternotomy approach for a large neurilemmoma invading the thoracic outlet: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Large mediastinum tumors invading the thoracic outlet have consistently been a challenge in thoracic surgery. Due to the large size of the tumor and its proximity to many important tissues, appropriate surgical approaches are crucial for a successful surgery. CASE PRESENTATIONS: Here, we present a case of a large neurilemmoma that invaded the thoracic outlet that was resected by a supraclavicular-median sternotomy approach. The case was a 58-year-old woman with a large mass in the right chest cavity that had invaded the thoracic outlet. The preoperative biopsy showed a blood clot

Neurilemmoma showing a unique growth pattern in the lateral chest wall: both inside and outside the thoracic cavity.

We report the first case of the intercostal neurilemmoma showing a unique growth pattern in the lateral chest wall (both inside and outside the thoracic cavity). Usually, intrathoracic neurilemmoma is found in the posterior mediastinum and bulge from the inner surface of the bony thorax toward the thoracic cavity. This unique growing pattern of neurilemmoma arising from intercostal nerve was clearly demonstrated by computed tomography and ultrasonography.

A Rare Case of Primary Intrapulmonary Neurilemmoma Diagnosed in a 43-Year-Old Asymptomatic Man with a Well-defined Intrapulmonary Mass.

Neurilemmoma (NL), also termed schwannoma, presents as a well-circumscribed and encapsulated mass in the human body and is almost always solitary. CT scan of a patient with NL shows a round, ovoid, or lobulated well-demarcated solid mass of soft tissue density. Primary intrathoracic neurogenic tumors location varies. However, the development of such tumors is by far more common in the costovertebral angle of the posterior mediastinum. Here, we report a rare case of a 43-year-old patient, never smoker and previously healthy, who presented with a mass adjacent to the right pulmonary hilum. This

Multiple neurilemmomas of the cauda equina, cavernous hemangioma of the spinal cord, and degeneration of the lateral corticospinal tracts in a man with the clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

Clinical and neuropathological findings of a 72-year-old man are reported who was thought to have had multiple sclerosis for 44 years. The main clinical symptom was a slowly progressive spastic tetraparesis, but during the last years he also developed bilateral neurogenic deafness, dysfunction of the urinary bladder and loss of vibratory and positional sensation in the legs. Autopsy revealed a unique combination of neuropathological findings, namely 1) multiple neurilemmomas of the cauda equina with loss of nerve fibers in dorsal roots and Goll's tracts, 2) symmetric fiber loss in the lateral
