BACKGROUND: Blue nevi are a group of congenital and acquired dermal melanocytoses characterized by a blue-gray appearance on the skin. The common blue nevus and cellular blue nevus are the most common subtypes. Patch-type blue nevus is rather rare.
OBSERVATIONS: We describe a 77-year-old Chinese male with a 6 × 8-cm non-palpable blue patch overlaid by a depigmented patch on the back of the left scalp. Histological examination of the blue-gray patch showed numerous spindled and elongated bipolar dendritic melanocytes in the upper reticular dermis and an absence of epidermal melanocytes. Immuno

BACKGROUND: Blue nevi that arise from the Müllerian tract are rare melanocytic lesions. Several histopathologic variants of cellular blue nevi have been described. The angiomatoid variant is characterized by a vascular component, and is considered to be a rare variant. Few studies have explored the influence of pregnancy on melanocytic lesions.
CASE: A 29-year-old woman was presented with a pigmented vaginal lesion that increased gradually during pregnancy. A full term gynecologic examination showed a tumor mass protruding into the vaginal canal. The mass was resected during cesarean-section

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disorder characterized by venous malformations usually affecting the skin and the gastrointestinal tract. These skin haemangiomas are present at birth and deteriorate as the body grows, causing primarily cosmetic problems. The haemangiomas of the gastrointestinal tract may appear later in life and may bleed, causing chronic anaemia, or may present with severe complications such as rupture, intestinal torsion, and intussusception. Other organs may also be involved. This article describes a 13-year-old boy with multiple haemangiomas of the skin,

A neoplasm associated with a pilonidal sinus (PS) is a rare occurrence in the course of a common disease. Early detection is imperative. To our knowledge, pilonidal disease associated with a cellular blue nevus (CBN) has not been reported. There is a 10% diagnostic error rate with this last lesion. Here we report the case of a 19-year-old man with recurrent sacrococcygeal PS infection associated with an indurated dome-shaped blue-black nodule 1.7 cm in diameter. Clinical diagnosis of the nodule was uncertain suggesting a pigmentary or a vascular tumor. A complete resection of the two lesions w

INTRODUCTION: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital systemic angiodysplasia with multiple vascular malformations in the skin, gastrointestinal tract and, less often, in other internal organs and the brain.
CASE REPORT: A 36-year-old man with past history of BRBNS was admitted to our hospital for progressive dyspnea and fatigue. Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) was diagnosed. He then developed acute abdominal pain and dyspnea, dying in a few hours due to sudden cardiac arrest. Postmortem examination demonstrated angiomatous lesions located in the skin, small bowel, h

Blue rubber-bleb nevus (BRBN) syndrome, first reported in 1958 by Bean, manifests with multiple hemangiomas located in the skin and gastarointestinal tract. Characteristic laboratory data include chronic anemia with iron deficiency and consumption coagulopathy. We describe herein a pregnancy complicated by BRBN syndrome resulting in the delivery of a male infant by cesarean section.

A 57-year-old woman previously diagnosed with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) reported hematemesis. BRBNS is a rare vascular anomaly syndrome consisting of multifocal hemangiomas of the skin and gastrointestinal (GI) tract but her GI tract had never been examined. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a large bleeding esophageal hematoma positioned between the thoracic esophagus and the gastric cardia. An endoscopic injection of polidocanol was used to stop the hematoma from bleeding. The hematoma was incised using the injection needle to reduce the pressure within it. Finally,

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disease characterized by multiple venous malformations and hemangiomas in the skin and visceral organs. The lesions often involve the cutaneous and gastrointestinal systems. Other organs can also be involved, such as the central nervous system, liver, and muscles. The most common symptoms are gastrointestinal bleeding and secondary iron deficiency anemia. The syndrome may also present with severe complications such as rupture, intestinal torsion, and intussusception, and can even cause death. Cutaneous malformations are usually asymptomatic and

BACKGROUND: Melanomas that arise in association with or that resemble blue nevi are extremely rare and have been termed "malignant blue nevi." The authors report on a single-institutional clinicopathologic study of "blue nevus-like melanomas" (BNLMs).
METHODS: Twenty-six patients were identified with a "malignant blue nevus" over 29 years at the Sydney Melanoma Unit. Twenty-three patients were included in the current study after pathologic review. Clinical outcomes of those patients were compared with the outcomes in a matched control group of patients with melanoma (matched for age, sex, Bre

Cutis verticis gyrata is a rare skin condition characterized by swelling of scalp resembling the surface of the brain. Various conditions, like cerebriform intradermal nevus (CIN), may give rise to this clinical entity. Moreover, its association with cellular blue nevus is extremely rare and has not been reported so far. Here, we report a 28-year-old male with a huge cerebriform swelling covering the occipital lobe along with multiple nodules all over the body. Histology of the scalp swelling showed solitary or clusters of nevus cells in the dermis and from the body lesions showed features of

Oral common blue nevus is an asymptomatic, benign, rare, pigmented lesion and sometimes clinically indistinguishable from other pigmented lesions such as the cellular blue nevus or early-stage malignant melanoma. Since it shows clinical similarities with a malignant lesion and with cellular blue nevus that can itself suffer malignant transformation, the decisive diagnosis is crucial for adequate treatment, follow-up, and prognosis. Diagnosis confirmation is given by histological analysis, the reason why most oral pigmented lesions are excised. The following case presents an asymptomatic oral p

Agminated blue nevus (ABN) is a melanocytic nevus rarely mentioned in the literature and not well known. The term agminated is used when many blue nevi are clustered together in a sharply demarcated area ≤10 cm. Specific dermatoscopic features have not currently been clearly defined. We describe two cases of ABN and provide a review of the literature, reporting the main points in order to facilitate the diagnosis of this rare entity.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome, a syndrome of multifocal venous malformations, has been reported rarely during pregnancy. This syndrome has been associated with airway lesions in some patients and neuraxial abnormalities in other patients. We report the anesthetic and obstetric management of a patient with an extensive distribution of both airway and neuraxial lesions.

The clinical and pathological features of 29 cellular blue nevi (CBN) and one malignant cellular blue nevus from our hospital files were reviewed. Although the sacrococcygeal region/buttock was the commonest single site, the majority of CBN occurred on the limb peripheries. Two-thirds of patients were under the age of 40 years. Follow-up of a mean of 7 years did not reveal any evidence of malignancy. Four histological subtypes were recognized: mixed biphasic, alveolar, fascicular or neuronevoid, and atypical varieties. One case developed a benign nodal metastasis. In one case, malignancy arose

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is an uncommon congenital disorder characterized by sporadic venous malformation which mainly occurs in skin and alimentary canal. Here, we report a BRBNS patient with concomitant intestinal intussusception who diagnosed by intraoperative endoscopy and ultimately managed using surgical resection. A 19-year-old boy was referred to urgent surgery for acute melena and stomachache. He had used to be a long-term iron user for undiagnosed chronic anemia and papules. Abdominal CT on admission demonstrated the presence of intestinal intussusception. The followin

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare vascular disorder characterized by multiple venous malformations (VMs) of the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and other organs. To date, several cases of sporadic BRBNS involving various parts of the pregnant woman's body have been reported; however, BRBNS in pregnancy with spinal epidural involvement has not been reported. Here, we describe the clinical features and management of familial BRBNS in pregnancy. The patient presented with multiple VMs on her head, neck, floor of the mouth, trunk, leg, foot, and vulva and spinal epidural lesions. The

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by distinctive cutaneous and gastrointestinal venous malformations that usually cause episodes of occult gastrointestinal haemorrhage and iron deficiency anaemia. We describe an 8-year-old girl who had multiple cutaneous venous malformations since birth. She also suffered from several episodes of severe chronic iron deficiency anaemia and required blood transfusions. To evaluate the presence of gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to intestinal angiomatosis, we decided to perform 99mTc-labelled red blood cell scintigraphy, which c
