Becker's nevus is an uncommon pigmented smooth muscle hamartoma that develops during adolescence and occurs primarily in young men. The nevus is characterized by hypertrichosis and hyperpigmentation and is usually located unilaterally over the shoulder, upper arm, and scapula. We describe a patient with a Becker's nevus who was treated with a long-pulsed ruby laser in order to decrease hair density and pigmentation.

Pigmentation disorders are among the most common cutaneous changes and occur in up to 60% of all people. They can be genetic or acquired, functionally or cosmetically disturbing, or the expression of a medical disorder. The best treatment options for hyperpigmentation are usually lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL). However, they can also worsen some conditions and are occasionally associated with side effects. A correct diagnosis is therefore essential, taking into account the skin type, the type of pigmentation and how deep the pigmentation is located in the skin. The most common indicatio

INTRODUCTION: Cellular blue nevus is an uncommon neoplasm in the spine.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we present a case of a 24 years old male with a 2 months history of numbness in the right upper limb and shoulder.
DIAGNOSIS: Cervical spine and subcutaneous tissue invasive cellular blue nevus.
INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent C4 laminectomy and partial C3 and C5 laminectomy for total resection of the lesion. Histopathology revealed a nodular tumor with unclear boundaries, which was composed of heavily pigmented dendritic cells and more pigmented spindle cells.
OUTCOMES: There was no recurr

Desmoplastic hairless hypopigmented nevus (DHHN) is the name Ruiz-Maldonado et al. gave to a new variant of giant congenital melanocytic nevus characterized clinically by a hard ligneous consistency, absence of hair and progressive loss of pigment. Histologically, dermal fibrosis consistent with desmoplasia is a predominant feature. We describe a 6-year-old boy with a hard hairless pigmented congenital nevus involving the lumbosacral area, buttocks, perineum and scrotum. During the first years of life, the nevus showed a progressive reduction in colour, size and consistency. These changes cont

We describe an infant girl, born with a pigmented giant nevus, who developed a malignant schwannoma in the retroperitoneum at 16 months of age. At birth the nevus covered over 50% of her body and histologically was a compound nevus with extension into the deep dermis surrounding dermal appendages. The malignant schwannoma was biphasic with areas composed of spindle and round cells. Ultrastructurally, the majority of the tumor cells exhibited a Schwann cell phenotype, but neuroepithelial and melanocytic cells were identified as well. We believe that this constellation of findings represents a f

A 5-year-old boy with the epidermal nevus syndrome and hemimegalencephaly is reported. He had pigmented nevi on the forehead and neck, and hemihypertrophy of the body from the birth. He developed intractable seizures, mental retardation, and right hemiparesis. His seizure pattern changed from early infantile epileptic encephalopathy to infantile spasms at 2 months of age. Electroencephalograms showed a suppression-burst pattern in the neonatal period, subsequently changing to hypsarrhythmia. Computerized tomography of the brain disclosed slight dilatation of the posterior horn of the lateral v

Patients with HIV have higher risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma of the skin given the increased risk of HPV infection, which alters cell proliferation and apoptosis [1]. Pigmented Bowen's disease is an uncommon form of squamous cell carcinoma in-situ characterized by pigmented lesions that can clinically mimic superficial spreading melanoma, pigmented basal cell carcinoma, melanocytic nevus, Bowenoid papulosis, and seborrheic keratosis.

Nevus-associated melanoma (NAM) is histologically defined by coexisting nevus and melanoma components, yet the nevus component is frequently not visible on dermoscopy. We performed a retrospective, single-centre observational study including histologically diagnosed NAMs (2011-2024). Dermoscopic images were assessed independently by two readers. Histopathology was systematically revised to quantify nevus proportion, size, and depth. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression evaluated associations with (a) invasive vs. in situ NAM and (b) dermoscopically visible vs. non-visible nevus com

Deep penetrating nevus (DPN) is an intradermal, sometimes compound benign melanocytic lesion, which involves the reticular dermis, occasionally reaching the subcutis, which can raise concern for melanoma both clinically and histologically. Recently, it has been genetically defined by the combination of MAPK activating and β-catenin activating mutations. We sought to investigate genetic alterations in 2 cases of combined nevi of congenital melanocytic and DPN. Case 1 was a 16-year-old woman with a pigmented lesion on the trunk since birth, which was completely excised. Histopathological examina

Pigmented Bowen's disease (pBD) or pigmented squamous cell cancer in situ is uncommon, accounting for 1.67%-5.5% of Bowen's disease lesions. It resembles pigmented actinic keratosis, seborrheic keratosis, solar lentigo, atypical nevus, or melanoma, and is ruled out through biopsy. Pigmented Bowen's disease typically presents as an asymptomatic, flat or slightly raised, scaly, and well-delineated plaque that primarily affects individuals in their sixties. Risk factors include human papilloma virus infection, arsenic exposure, sun exposure, ionizing radiation, and trauma.

BACKGROUND: Clinical experience of our single center in dealing with pigmented epibulbar lesions - melanocytic conjunctival tumors is presented. Since 2008 we use the topical treatment with mitomycin C (MMC) as an alternative or adjunctive method for excision in the treatment of melanocytic neoplasia of the conjunctiva.
METHODS: The retrospective case series of 85 patients with pigmented lesions of the conjunctiva - melanocytic conjunctival tumors, histopathologically examined in the period 2001-2010 is presented. Since 2008 we started to apply MMC in the treatment of primary acquired melanos

We report on 21 pigmented nevi that occurred in 11 patients (6 male and 5 female patients) age 3 to 39 years. All patients had the Carney complex (myxomas, spotty skin pigmentation, endocrine overactivity, and schwannomas); six patients were members of three families. The nevi occurred on the extremities and trunk, less frequently on the head and neck, and were multiple in five patients. Clinically, they were darkly pigmented, domed, and small (less than 1 cm) and commonly interpreted as "blue nevi." Microscopically, they featured heavily pigmented, poorly circumscribed, dermal lesions that di

Two cases of subungual pigmented nevi with periungual melanotic freckles, namely Hutchinson's sign, are presented. They are a 4-year-old female and a 11-month-old male; in neither case did the mother notice the lesion at birth. Histologically, both cases were characterized by the presence of well-circumscribed small nests of nevus cells in the periungual melanotic areas; diagnoses of junctional nevus and compound nevus were made, respectively. However, atypical proliferations of melanocytes at the dermo-epidermal junction of the nail matrix and nail bed were observed in some areas. The measure

A 45-year-old man presented with a pigmented lesion on his face. A clinical diagnosis of melanocytic nevus was made and the lesion was excised. Histopathologic examination showed a reticular seborrheic keratosis associated with a junctional nevus. We discuss the relation of nevocellular nevi with epidermal and adnexal tumors.

We describe a man with a pigmented poroma on the scalp mimicking a pigmented melanocytic nevus. Histopathological examination showed that melanocytes were mostly distributed at the periphery of the tumor masses. It is suggested that melanocytes in the tumor masses may have migrated from the adjacent epidermis.

Multiple pigmented lesions including benign lentigines, typical nevi, and dysplastic nevi from 3 patients with the dysplastic nevus syndrome contained giant melanosomes (GM). Ultrastructurally the GM were composed of microvesicles, but lacked limiting membrane and filamentous internal structure. As such, they resembled the GM found in 4 other patients with dysplastic nevus syndrome, leopard syndrome and ocular albinism, but differed from those found in the café-au-lait spots of neurofibromatosis, nevus spilus, vitiliginous achromia, and certain animals.

Nevus is a congenital pigmented malformation rarely found in the oral mucosa. Around one third of cases located in this anatomical region are of the blue type, a histological variant with considerable tendency to malignancy. This study reports the case of a male patient, chronic smoker, with a blue nevus measuring 5 cm in diameter on the hard palate. Since controversy exists in the literature regarding the incisional biopsy of pigmented lesions with malignant or malignant potential, excision without previous biopsy of the lesion was the therapy of choice for this case. The patient was followed

The mongolian spot, nevus of Ota, and nevus of Ito are the most common morphologic forms of the dermal melanocytoses, a group of benign pigmented lesions histologically characterized by the presence of melanocytes within the dermis. Nevus of Ito is clinically distinct, presenting with unilateral, bluish gray, patchy discolorations in the skin within the distributions of the posterior supraclavicular and lateral cutaneous brachial nerves. Although all dermal melanocytoses are generally considered benign, rare cases of malignant transformation associated with nevus of Ota have been described. On

BACKGROUND: Most melanocytic lesions develop along a genetic continuum progressing from a nevus to melanoma. Melanocytomas represent an intermediate category of tumors that lie within that spectrum harboring additional genetic alterations that may affect their phenotype. WHO currently recognizes three melanocytoma categories: Pigmented Epithelioid Melanocytomas (PEMs), BAP1-inactivated Melanocytomas (BIMs) and WNT-activated deep penetrating/plexiform melanocytomas (naevus) (WNT-activated DPMNs). Among them, WNT-activated DPMNs represent an underrecognized entity often misinterpreted as other b

BACKGROUND: Three cases of pointillist nevus, which is a distinctive clinical type of benign melanocytic nevus with variegated pigment, have been described in the literature to date.
OBSERVATIONS: A 24-year-old man presented with an acquired melanocytic lesion composed of multiple tiny pigmented dots. Dermoscopy revealed multiple brown globules on a reddish skin-colored background, and histologic examination demonstrated architectural disorder with cytologic atypia. Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, we report a case of dysplastic pointillist nevus.
