Experiences and challenges of pediatric intensive care unit nurses in Iran: a qualitative content analysis study.

PURPOSE: Pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) are demanding places to work. Nurses there provide complex, continuous care to critically ill children and support distressed families, often with too few staff and limited resources. In Iran, little is known about how PICU nurses experience these pressures. This study explored their experiences and considered how these challenges may affect nurses' well-being and the quality and safety of care. PROCEDURES: We used conventional content analysis, following Graneheim and Lundman. Fifteen nurses were recruited by purposive maximum variation samplin

Assessment of Weight Bias Among Pediatric Nurses and Clinical Support Staff Toward Obese Patients and Their Caregivers.

The increasing burden of obesity is prevalent in the pediatric populations. Pediatric nurses are spending increasing amounts of time and effort caring for obese patients however no prior studies have explored how nurses perceive obese patients. The purpose of this study is to identify weight bias in pediatric nurses (RNs) and clinical support staff (CSS) working in a pediatric hospital setting. A convenience sample of RNs and CSS from an urban, pediatric hospital were surveyed using the Nurses' Attitudes toward Obesity and Obese Patients Scale (NATOOPS), which consists of 6 patient-care factor

Radiation exposure in nurses during care of 131I-MIBG therapy for pediatric patients with high-risk neuroblastoma.

OBJECTIVE: 131I-meta-iodo-benzyl-guanidine (131I-MIBG) therapy has been used in children with high-risk neuroblastoma, who, in Japan, are cared for by trained nurses. To determine the safety of occupational radiation exposure in nurses, we retrospectively examined radiation exposure during therapy. METHODS: Sixty-two nurses who received radiation exposure during 131I-MIBG therapy were assessed for the daily percentage of total radiation exposure received using the formula, daily radiation exposure/total radiation dose × 100; self-care score of children was evaluated. RESULTS: Fifty-four 131I

Structural and Organizational Dimensions of Compassion Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology Nursing: A Qualitative Study.

Pediatric oncology nursing is among the highest-intensity care specialties, exposing nurses to repeated child death and sustained emotional investment in family relationships. This occupational burden is a recognized psychosocial risk factor and a driver of compassion fatigue, burnout, and reported intention to leave, yet the organizational and educational determinants of this risk remain poorly captured by existing assessment approaches. This study investigated the lived experiences of nurses caring for terminally ill children in a pediatric onco-hematology unit and hospice ward in central It

What the pediatric nurse needs to know about the Impella cardiac assist device.

Background: Cardiogenic shock in children still carries a high mortality risk despite advances in medical therapy. The use of temporary mechanical circulatory supports is an accepted strategy to bridge patients with acute heart failure to recovery, decision, transplantation or destination therapy. These devices are however limited in children and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) remains the most commonly used device. Veno-arterial ECMO may provide adequate oxygen delivery, but it does not significantly unload the left ventricle, and this may prevent recovery. To improve the likelihoo
