Enhancement in Perioperative Care Outcomes through Nurse-Led Multidisciplinary Team Care among Patients Undergoing da Vinci Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy: A Retrospective Study.

OBJECTIVE: Clinically, prostate cancer (PCa) is a common cancer among males, with the primary treatment being radical prostatectomy, which, nevertheless, has side effects. Multidisciplinary team (MDT) care, a new nursing method, could facilitate accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment. This study explored the perioperative nursing effect of MDT on patients undergoing da Vinci robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. METHODS: A total of 146 patients underwent radical resection of prostate cancer in The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University from January 2023 to February 2024. T

Why Nurses Intend to Override AI Alerts: How Alert Fatigue, Moral Distress, and Team Psychological Safety Shape Self-Reported Trust Calibration Toward Clinical Decision Support.

Background and Objectives: Hospitals increasingly use AI tools that give nurses on-screen alerts and recommendations (AI-supported clinical decision support, AI-DSS). When nurses override these alerts too often, useful guidance can be lost; when they trust them blindly, errors can slip through. We examined which work and wellbeing factors are associated with nurses' self-reported intention to override AI alerts, rather than observed override behavior. Methods: We surveyed 239 registered nurses (76.6% female; mean age 33.7 years) at a large hospital in Timișoara, Romania, from January to March

The elements of nursing ... all but unknown.

In summing up, I have explored briefly some notions on the elements of nursing through the theme of partnership with the public and with others involved in health care. These notions, which are by no means exclusive, have centred around five main areas; Firstly, the unique personal characteristics demanded by the closeness of sustained contact with patients and clients; Secondly, the primacy of the patient's and the public's needs in defining nursing or any other health care profession; Thirdly, the need for nursing both individually and organisationally to look outwards and engage with the wi

Optimising resources: an evidence-based pathway using UrgoStart for community-based patients with wounds.

Providing a co-ordinated and strategic approach to the assessment, treatment and management of chronic wounds in healthcare is central to the provision of effective nursing practice and optimisation of resources in community nursing. This article describes a project conducted in Northumberland by a tissue viability team and a district nursing team to implement an evidence-based treatment pathway for patients with leg ulcers. It discusses the multiple positive benefits of this project-to the NHS, nursing staff and patients-and provides detailed information for other nursing teams to implement s

Increased Nursing Participation in Multidisciplinary Rounds to Enhance Communication, Patient Safety, and Parent Satisfaction.

Effective communication among health care team members is a mainstay of patient safety, especially in a neonatal ICU (NICU), given small errors can have serious and life-threating consequences. Ineffective communication with families of hospitalized children can lead to decreased satisfaction and trust in the health care team. To enhance communication, the NICU nursing staff at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center spearheaded an initiative to create an enhanced nursing role in multidisciplinary patient rounds. Education of the nursing staff and other team members and the development of a roundi

A-TEAM: An Interprofessional Approach to Mandated Reporting in the Hospital Setting.

Reporting suspected child maltreatment in pediatric settings presents unique challenges. Variation in mandated reporter training may lead to discomfort and emotional dysregulation. Failure to collaborate inter-professionally potentially results in suboptimal care for vulnerable children and families. A-TEAM promotes awareness, transparency, empathy, a nonjudgmental strategy, and management by an interprofessional team when referring patients for child protective services evaluation. A faculty trained in pediatric trauma nursing led the development of A-TEAM. Integrating nursing and social work

Evaluation of the Team Empowerment Theory Using Fawcett's Criteria.

Team Empowerment Theory, developed by Christina Sieloff, is a middle-range nursing theory that emphasizes power as a positive resource for enhancing team effectiveness. This article evaluates the theory using Fawcett's six criteria: significance, internal consistency, parsimony, testability, empirical adequacy, and pragmatic adequacy. The theory aligns with the nursing metaparadigm, demonstrates conceptual clarity, and is supported by a standardized measurement instrument and empirical studies linking empowerment to organizational and patient outcomes. The conceptualization of certain elements

Lymphatic Filariasis in Children in Haiti.

Using available evidence and astute assessment skills, nurses and advanced practice nurses, as members of an inter-professional team, were able to assess, diagnose, and initiate treatment for a child with lymphatic filariasis within a global health practice setting. The lessons learned during health outreach trips to an underserved commune of Port-au-Prince, Haiti can promote an understanding of appropriate nursing practice related to this parasitic infection. They can also assist nursing students, nurse practitioner students, and faculties as members of a medical outreach team to promote sust

Interprofessional teams see differently: a cross-over study using dual mobile eye-tracking.

It is widely assumed that interprofessional teams (IP) attend to broader range of clinical information than monoprofessional teams (MP), because each profession is trained to prioritize different aspects of patient care. Yet no study has empirically tested this assumption. We conducted a randomized cross-over study, where medical and nursing students in their fourth year worked together in teams of two on paper-based clinical cases, and in three different team compositions: medical+medical (MPMed), nursing+nursing (MPNurse), and medical+nursing (IP). We used mobile eye-tracking glasses on both

Structure and processes of interdisciplinary geriatric consultation teams in acute care hospitals: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Interdisciplinary geriatric consultation teams are implemented in the acute hospital setting in several high-income countries to provide comprehensive geriatric assessment for the increasing numbers of older patients with a geriatric profile hospitalized on non-geriatric units. Given the inconclusive evidence on this care model's effectiveness to improve patient outcomes, health care policy and practice oriented recommendations to redesign the structure and process of care provided by interdisciplinary geriatric consultation teams are needed. A scoping review was con

Influence of nursing staff characteristics on seclusion in acute mental health care-A prospective two-year follow-up study.

INTRODUCTION: Seclusion still occurs on mental health wards, despite absence of therapeutic efficacy and high risks of adverse patient effects. Literature on the effect of nursing teams, and the role of psychological characteristics in particular, on frequency of seclusion is scarce. AIM: To explore the influence of demographic, professional or psychological, nursing team-level, and shift characteristics on the frequency of use of seclusion. METHODS: Prospective two-year follow-up study. RESULTS: We found that the probability of seclusion was lower when nursing teams with at least 75% males
