The use of a humidified environment has long been established as a method of maintaining a thermoneutral environment and minimizing evaporative insensible water losses in the extremely low birth weight (ELBW) population. The ELBW infant is at high risk for insensible water losses leading to dehydration, excessive weight loss, temperature instability, and electrolyte abnormalities, thereby increasing the ELBW infant's risks of morbidity and mortality. Literature supports the use of a humidified environment; however, a lack of consensus has led to widespread variation in the implementation of hu

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: ECT is a treatment which has a long and complicated history. There is no consensus on its effectiveness and there is a great deal of polarized debate as to whether it should be used. MHNs are asked to work with people who are receiving ECT as part of their duties. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: The paper seeks to move beyond the polarized arguments and to consider how MHNs can work with people where ECT is being considered or administered as part of their treatment in a manner which satisfies their professional obligations. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE:

INTRODUCTION: Adults with exacerbated heart failure (HF) who present to the emergency department (ED) generally are readmitted. However, Hispanic HF patients are more likely to be admitted than Whites. Studies show the importance of nurse-led interventions in the ED discharge process, but registered nurse (RN) confidence in performing discharge tasks has not been assessed. Greater nurse confidence leads to improved task performance, and potentially reduced HF readmission, lowering cost of care. This study aimed to gain insight into ED RNs' perceived self-confidence in discharge tasks with stab

OBJECTIVE: Due to the absence of a licenced vaccine or drug for treatment of Ebola patients during the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak, frontline nurses were at increased risk of exposure. Hence, they were prioritized to participate in clinical trials to receive experimental therapeutics. To our knowledge no study has explored the nurses' experiences of their decision-making process when volunteering in clinical trials using unproven agents, which is the purpose of this qualitative study.
METHODS: This study, part of a larger Ebola study, thematically analyzed the interview data of nine nurses

BACKGROUND: For people with cognitive impairment, hospitalisation is challenging and associated with adverse events as well as negative outcomes resulting in a prolonged hospital stay. Person-centred care can improve the quality of care and the experience of people with cognitive impairment during hospitalisation. However, current care processes in German hospitals are rarely person-centred. To enable successful implementation of person-centred care on hospital wards, change agents within the interprofessional team are key. The aim of this study is to test the feasibility and initial effects o

BACKGROUND: Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system and the leading cause of disability in young adults. In Germany, 90% of relapses are treated with high-dose intravenous glucocorticoids, despite limited evidence for long-term benefit and international preference for oral administration. Time constraints often hinder informed decision-making. The multicentre Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) POWER@MS2 (N = 160, 2020-2023), conducted at 18 German MS-centres, aimed to promote self-determined relapse management through a complex inte
