Ethical considerations for nurse practitioners conducting research in populations with opioid use disorder.

People with opioid use disorder (OUD) are a vulnerable population who face unique risks of harm when participating in research. Despite a long-standing dialogue, written research codes of ethics, and institutional review board oversight for the conduct of ethical research in vulnerable populations, protections for study populations with OUD is rarely mentioned. Nurse practitioners who conduct research using participants with OUD, especially when recruiting their own patients (i.e., dual role), must be aware of the unique ethical considerations necessary to protect their patients and participan

MSCs and MSC-Exos in pediatric ARDS treatment: translational research and the reshaping of nursing roles.

Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a severe lung condition with high mortality and limited conventional treatments. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which are special cells that can develop into a variety of cell types, and their tiny vesicles called exosomes (MSC-Exos), are highly promising cell-based therapies for pediatric ARDS because of their anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and tissue-repair functions. This review summarizes current knowledge on MSCs and MSC-Exos in ARDS, including recent progress in studies before human trials and in actual patient trials. It focu

High-ACE Low Wage Workers: Occupational Health Nursing Research and Praxis Through a Trauma-Informed Lens.

Individuals with a history of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) disproportionately have poor mental and physical health outcomes. These experiences affect individuals across the life span extending beyond health with deleterious impact on work-related outcomes. Low-wage workers are particularly at risk. Social service and health organizations are becoming aware of the extent to which the populations they serve have been affected by these experiences. Employment support programs may serve high-ACE individuals but likely are unaware of their histories and the developmental or health deficits
