Primary health care services provided by nurse practitioners and family physicians in shared practice.

BACKGROUND: Collaborative practice involving nurse practitioners (NPs) and family physicians (FPs) is undergoing a renaissance in Canada. However, it is not understood what services are delivered by FPs and NPs working collaboratively. One objective of this study was to determine what primary health care services are provided to patients by NPs and FPs working in the same rural practice setting. METHODS: Baseline data from 2 rural Ontario primary care practices that participated in a pilot study of an outreach intervention to improve structured collaborative practice between NPs and FPs were

Incidence and Prevalence of Infectious Diseases and Their Risk Factors among Patients Who Use Visiting Nursing Services in Japan.

This study aimed to clarify the incidence of infectious diseases and the associated risk factors among patients who use visiting nursing services in Japan. We conducted a one-year follow up cohort study with 419 participants. The incidence and period prevalence rate of infectious diseases were 0.63 and 15.0%, respectively. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, the presence of chronic respiratory failure, Parkinson's disease, dermatosis other than pressure ulcers, and the inability to perform oral self-care were significantly related to the contraction of an infectious disease.

[Assessment of the association between nursing care services, hypertension, and Alzheimer's disease in elderly patients with late-stage diabetes].

In an aging society with fewer children, diabetes self-control is difficult for elderly patients. Under these circumstances, it is expected that living in care homes for the elderly and institutions where nursing care services could be provided will help improve the prognosis of diabetic patients. Therefore, we assessed whether HbA(1c). levels (National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program : NGSP) in 121 elderly patients with late-stage diabetes receiving home medical care in our clinic from March 2008 to March 2013 improved with nursing care services.

Perceptions and Service Outcomes of a Nurse Practitioner Led Inpatient Psychiatric Consultant-Liaison Service in a Private Health Care Setting: A Prospective Observational Study.

Psychiatric consultant-liaison nurses play a crucial role in ensuring prompt and effective mental health care, though the volume of empirical research on nurse-led consultant-liaison models in the private sector is limited. This study evaluated the service activity and immediate service-level outcomes of a nurse-led Psychiatric Consultant-Liaison service within an Australian metropolitan private hospital. The study aimed to explore: (1) consumer case-mix; (2) trends in consumer referrals and outcomes; and (3) the perceived usefulness and acceptability of the service among referring nurses. A p

The nurse consultant in mental health services: A national, mixed methods study of an advanced practice role.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Internationally, systematic reviews have identified evidence of equal or improved clinical outcomes comparing advanced practitioner treatment with medical treatment as usual, across a range of specialities. Studies of nurse consultants in the United Kingdom have largely been non-empirical. Most studies specifically related to nurse consultant roles in mental health services are case studies or reports of views on this role. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: The study demonstrates that nurse consultant numbers vary over time and by clinical specialty. T

Accuracy of clinical diagnosis of benign eyelid lesions: Is a dedicated nurse-led service safe and effective?

This article compares an independent nurse-led benign lesion service with a doctor-led one, and assesses the impact of clinician seniority on diagnostic accuracy rates. Retrospective review of benign lesions referred to a teaching hospital and managed in either a doctor- or nurse-led lid service. All lesions were diagnosed clinically, excised and then sent for histological diagnosis. Lesions were categorized into subtypes. Pre-excision clinical diagnoses were compared with histological diagnoses. Sensitivity, specificity and missed malignancy rates were calculated for each subtype. Accuracy wa

Ambulance Use Appropriateness: Emergency Medical Service Technicians' and Triage Nurses' Assessments and Patients' Perceptions.

Background/Objective: Part of the workload of ambulance service involves patients with low-acuity health events that do not require the specific resources provided by ambulance services or emergency departments (EDs). The problem of inappropriateness is also present in Italy. However, research is limited to the perspective of triage nurses only, excluding patients and emergency medical service (EMS) staff. This study aims to identify the presence of inappropriate ambulance use in the study context by comparing patients' perception of emergency with appropriateness perspectives of both triage n

Home-visit nursing service use by older adults in Japan using insurance claims data.

This study aimed to investigate the proportion of home-visit nursing (HVN) used, the timing of initiating these services, and the medical conditions of older adults in the last two years of life based on their place of death. The study used insurance claims data of people aged 75 or older from 32 Japanese municipalities who passed away between March 2017 and September 2018. Of the 15,124 older adults analyzed, the results revealed that 14 % died at home, and among them, 68 % had used HVN services. In the home or non-home groups, the most common timing for initiating the services was in the las

Benefits of an advanced nurse practitioner led hip fracture clinic in an Irish Orthopaedic Trauma Service.

UNLABELLED: Ireland has high hip fracture rates, stressing services for older adults. An ANP-led clinic was introduced to improve post-discharge care. Among 87 patients, significant gains in pain, mobility, and bone health management were seen. The clinic proved a safe, effective model addressing critical gaps in hip fracture follow-up care. PURPOSE: Ireland has one of the highest rates of hip fracture in the world. With a rapidly aging and increasing population, more stress will be put on services for hip fracture patients. Furthermore, accurate data collection with regard to Irish Hip Fract
