This study aimed to compare the detection and ligation of patent processus vaginalis (PPV) between laparoscopy-assisted transscrotal orchidopexy (LATO) and single scrotal incision orchiopexy (SSIO) for low palpable undescended testis (UDT). Splenogonadal fusion remains a rare congenital anomaly, with limited reports in the literature. It is important to be aware of this benign condition as orchiectomy can result from confusion with malignant processes. We present a case of splenogonadal fusion in a 12-month-old healthy male with history of cryptorchidism found at the time of surgery.

AIM: Traditionally, ligation of hernial sac during orchiopexy is considered mandatory to prevent postoperative development of hernia. A prospective study was carried out to see if it is actually required based on the fact that any peritoneal defect closes within 24 hours by metamorphosis of the in situ mesodermal cells.

Out of 335 patients with testicular neoplasms, cryptorchidism was concomitant in 84 cases (25%). 28 patients underwent orchiopexy at the age of 5-52 years. Tumor was detected, on the average, 14,4 years after the operation. Orchiopexy contributes to carcinogenesis in the undescended testicle. The rate of incidence of non-seminomatous tumor is relatively higher in patients after orchiopexy than in untreated cases of cryptorchidism. Patients with undescended testicle should be referred to a group at high risk and be followed up.

Congenital undescended testis (UDT) is a common congenital anomaly among males. Since ectopic position of the testis is considered a risk factor for the development of testicular cancer and infertility, early diagnosis and treatment are essential. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the first reports of orchiopexy, and the work and writings concerning Thomas Annandale and the time in which he practiced.
RESULTS: Annandale was a surgeon in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the late 19th century. In 1877 he successfully brought down an ectopic testicle in a 3-year-old boy. This first reported successful orchiopexy was due in large part to Lister's antiseptic technique.
