Absolute anchorage with universal T-loop mechanics for severe deepbite and maxillary anterior protrusion and its 10-year stability.

An adult patient with severe maxillary protrusion and deepbite who was congenitally missing two mandibular incisors was treated successfully by maximum retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth after extraction of the maxillary first premolars using a moment differential between the anterior and posterior segments created by a universal T-loop. Anterior teeth were moved with controlled tipping, and little anchorage loss of the posterior segments was experienced using the universal T-loop spring. Reduction of overbite was performed by absolute intrusion of both maxillary and mandibular anterio

[Relationship of orthodontic treatment and periodontal soft tissue health].

With the increasing number of the orthodontic patients, the relationship between periodontal and orthodontic becomes increasingly close. Orthodontic treatment can improve periodontal status, but the adverse clinical problems of periodontal tissue during orthodontic treatment are relatively common. In this paper, we discuss the problems of soft tissue, including causes, prevention, and treatment of gingivitis, gingival enlargement, gingival recession, and gingival invagination in orthodontic treatment.

[Orthodontic treatment for malocclusions in mixed dentition].

Early orthodontic treatment is an important means of preventing and treating dentofacial deformities during the period of growth and development. In this stage, children have great potential in growth and development, high adaptability of muscles and temporomandibular joint, and good responsiveness to orthodontic force. Therefore, orthodontic intervention and treatment in this stage can prevent and guide the normal growth and development of dentition, occlusion and maxillofacial complex. This article summarizes the commonly used orthodontic techniques and appliances in the mixed dentition, inc

Orthodontic treatment in a periodontal patient with pathologic migration of anterior teeth.

A 22-year-old man with severe periodontitis and pathologic tooth migration sought orthodontic treatment. He was treated successfully with effective control of the strength and the direction of the orthodontic forces, and a combination of periodontic and orthodontic treatment. After 22 months of orthodontic treatment, his occlusal trauma resulting from pathologic tooth migration was relieved, a stable occlusion was achieved, and mutual aggravation of occlusal trauma and periodontitis was prevented. Furthermore, the patient's facial esthetics and self-confidence were improved. Newly formed trabe

Beyond the Brackets: A Case Report of Acute Angioedema Associated With Orthodontic Treatment.

This case report highlights a rare incidence of acute angioedema triggered by an etchant during orthodontic treatment. It underscores the potential for commonly used dental materials to provoke allergic reactions. A 14-year-old female patient developed lip swelling, burning sensation, and localized pain shortly after etching. The reaction involved predominantly the upper lip, and the patient had no known history of allergy. Clinical signs included diffuse, non-pitting edematous swelling of the lips without systemic involvement. Acute allergic angioedema was diagnosed based on clinical evaluati

Evaluation of the Prevalence of White Spot Lesions During Fixed Orthodontic Treatment Among Patients Reporting for Correction of Malocclusion: A Prevalence Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite recent breakthroughs in caries preventive measures, one of the biggest issues clinicians confront is preventing demineralization while undergoing orthodontic therapy. The buildup of plaques around orthodontic brackets over time causes white spot lesions (WSLs). The goal of the present research was to assess the prevalence of WSLs in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment before starting therapy and at six and 12 months into therapy, adopting the visual examination approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We looked for WSLs on tooth surfaces gingival to an archwire because this

[Joint treatment of patients with clefts by orthodontists and logopedists].

Close cooperation between speech pathologist and orthodontist in management of CLP cases is described. Preoperative treatment aims at maintenance of initially favorable maxillary relations and compensation for imbalance of the oral musculature. Knowledge of growth and speech development is decisive for timing of primary surgery (lip about 6 months, soft palate about 18 months, hard palate 5 to 7 years). Speech assessment starts at age 2-2 1/2, followed by team controls once or twice a year with proper coaching of parents. Actual speech therapy is not stared before age 5. The approach described

Contemporary space maintenance for the pediatric patient.

Primary teeth play a critical role in the growth and development of a child. In addition to their role in esthetics, eating, speech, and to encourage normal function and resultant expected growth, the other main function of a primary tooth is to hold space for the permanent successor until it is ready to erupt. Space maintenance forms an integral part of preventive and interceptive orthodontics. After the premature loss of a tooth, not only do space maintainers maintain function and preserve arch length, they also maintain esthetics and eliminate any potential psychological damage a child coul

[Timely and appropriately performing early orthodontic treatment].

In recent years, the early orthodontic treatment of malocclusion has become a hot issue in the field of orthodontics. Some new phenomena and new problems that have emerged require in-depth analysis and discussion, and need to be given correct guidance and norms. Malocclusion refers to the deformities of teeth, jaws, and craniofacial bones caused by genetic and environmental factors during growth and development. Based on the accurate judgment of the etiology and diagnosis, choosing the right time and suitable indications, with the advantage of growth and development, the most suitable applianc

Periodontal phenotype modification in surgically facilitated orthodontics: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic treatment in adults with thin periodontal phenotype presents challenges such as lengthy treatment time and increased risk for gingival recessions. In this case, surgically facilitated orthodontic treatment (SFOT) was proposed to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement while modifying the periodontal phenotype. METHODS: An orthodontic patient was referred for periodontal evaluation of lower anterior teeth, which presented a thin gingival phenotype and bone dehiscence. SFOT was performed on the mandible using particulate allograft combined with platelet rich fibrin (PRF) a

Prosthetic measures in the mixed dentition must allow for the actualities of this developmental phase. Traumatic or developmental injuries to enamel and dentine, accidental tooth loss and hypodontia or oligodontia are indications for prosthetic treatment in school children, at which orthodontic aspects should always be considered. The prosthetic approach is characterized by the respect to preventive aspects related to the further biomorphosis of the dentition. With reference to the different phases of mixed dentition, methodical suggestions are given in the form of tables.
