OBJECTIVE: An analysis of the literature regarding palliative care of patients with wounds.
DATA SOURCES: Health care literature, including national and international reports, focusing on enhancing quality of life for individuals with wounds who are receiving palliative care.
CONCLUSION: The literature on palliative care of patients with wounds is limited. Physiotherapists, whether trained in intensive care or internal medicine, must be attentive to patients at the end of their lives. Palliative-care physiotherapy requires basic training in rehabilitation techniques; the integration of a rehabilitation professional in a caregivers team; a profound communication with the patient, leading to an effective accompaniment and direct response to the patient's needs; and recognition of the patient's functional needs. The involvement of the physiotherapist can extend to the very end of life. In a series of 56 geriatric patients (35 suffering from cancer,

INTRODUCTION: Data surrounding palliative sedation in pediatric patients is scarce. Our objective is to assess the utility of creating a quality standard for pediatric palliative sedation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A non-systematic review of the literature was used to find recommendations for pediatric palliative sedation, after which a definition was established based on three items: (1) indication, (2) consent, and (3) application. Afterwards, a retrospective analysis of palliative sedations applied by our unit over 5 years was performed.
RESULTS: Out of 163 patients, palliative sedation was a

The Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH) program comprises a community palliative care team serving some of the most complex clients in the healthcare system. Formal partnerships bring together physician, nursing, psychosocial and homecare, health and housing navigation supports. PEACH has served over 1,000 clients, leading field-defining research, medical education and public advocacy. The PEACH program demonstrates that innovation through deep interorganizational and intersectoral integration can drive value-based impact for the most complex clients, providing instructive l

Growing numbers of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are in need of palliative care, but there is inequity of access to palliative care services for this group. This study investigates the issues and difficulties arising for palliative care staff in providing care for people with ID. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 32 palliative care professionals in London. Factors affecting palliative care provision for people with ID included social issues (home situation and family issues), emotional and cognitive issues (fear, patient understanding, communication, cooperation and c

BACKGROUND: Surgical palliative care (SPC) research has advanced since the 2017 research agenda, but persistent gaps in patient selection, intervention delivery, and outcome measurement limit implementation across evolving surgical care settings.
STUDY DESIGN: In November 2025, a national consensus conference convened 28 SPC experts and researchers. Through iterative discussion and consensus-building during the meeting and subsequent months, participants updated research priorities across the surgical continuum and health system context. Full methodology and participant attributes were descri

Early integration of palliative care within disease-oriented care is advocated but the question of how this is best accomplished remains. In the context of surgical care for patients with pancreatic cancer, a quality improvement initiative was introduced whereby palliative care consultations were offered early in the disease trajectory. We devised a qualitative study using an interpretive description design, focusing on the integration of palliative care consultation practice and collaboration between actors. The aim of the study was to examine a practice-driven change for the early integratio

PURPOSE: To describe the process of delivery of pediatric palliative care from the perspective of a pediatric interdisciplinary team and the children's parents.
METHODS: A qualitative descriptive case study was conducted. Purposeful sampling took place within a specialized pediatric palliative care Unit in Madrid (Spain), located at the Niño Jesus Hospital. The study participants included a specialized pediatric palliative care team from Madrid's pediatric palliative care program, other professional teams involved in interdisciplinary care and parents of children under pediatric palliative ca

Cervical cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths among economically disadvantaged women. The symptoms of pain, discharge, constipation, foul smell, insomnia and depression can be controlled with inexpensive medicines such as oral morphine, maintenance oral metronidazole, antidepressants and laxatives. These medications should be prescribed according to the palliative care guidelines and titrated to the individual patient's clinical response, pathophysiology, and metabolic parameters. A hypothetical clinical scenario illustrates some aspects of pain and symptom management, inte

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Loss of appetite is a common symptom in patients with advanced cancer, and may contribute to patient deterioration. There is a lack of information about this issue, particularly in patients with advanced cancer admitted to an acute palliative care unit. The aims of this study were to assess appetite loss in patients admitted to an APCU and to investigate whether changes following comprehensive palliative care treatment are associated with survival.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A consecutive sample of 520 patients admitted to the APCU was assessed. Patient characteristics and

BACKGROUND: Cancer is a major cause of mortality worldwide, and the demand for palliative care (PC) is increasing. In Oman, PC services remain limited, with oncology nurses providing most frontline care. However, little is known about their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) toward PC. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 189 oncology nurses at the Royal Hospital and Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center. Data were collected using the Palliative Care Knowledge Questionnaire (PEACE-Q), Frommelt’s Attitude Toward Care of the Dying – Form B (FATCOD-B)

BACKGROUND: The Brazilian version of the Quality Care Questionnaire - Palliative Care (QCQ-PC) is an instrument developed to assess the quality of care provided in palliative care.
OBJECTIVE: To structurally validate the Brazilian version of the QCQ-PC for use in individuals with HF eligible for palliative care.
METHODOLOGY: This study aimed to structurally validate the QCQ-PC, following the Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN). Data were collected using the QCQ-PC, 36-Item Short Form Health Survey Instrument (SF-36), and Minnesota Living wit

This study conceptually contributes to the literature by exploring how post-traumatic growth (PTG) may function as a protective psychological mechanism that mitigates caregiving burden in home-based palliative care contexts. This descriptive study included 175 home healthcare patients and their caregivers. Data were collected using the Sociodemographic Data Form, the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, and the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory. A significant negative correlation was found between PTG and caregiver burden (r = -0.342, p = .01). Beyond the statistical association, these findings suggest

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Provider experience is critical to the acceptance and sustainability of palliative care delivery models. Compassion satisfaction and burnout make up key components of provider wellbeing and therefore serve as important targets for measurement. Exploring the impact of palliative care interventions on provider experience offers significant potential for innovation. This narrative review surveys existing literature regarding provider-wellbeing outcomes in palliative care delivery. Our primary objectives were to examine the factors and interventions that influence compass

OBJECTIVES: Palliative care phases (stable, unstable, deteriorating, terminal and bereavement) are useful in describing the palliative care situation of patients/relatives and their care needs as well as the suitability of care plans. Little is known about care setting-specific differences of the phases and their association with burden of symptoms/problems and functional status. We aimed to describe the presence and association of symptom/problem burden and functional status with the palliative care phase at the beginning of care episodes in specialist palliative care units, specialist home c

Care is a multidimensional concept that includes spirituality as a dynamic and integrative aspect of human experience. Integrating spirituality into clinical practice enables a more comprehensive response to the full spectrum of human needs, which is why spiritual care competence emerges as an aptitude that fits the profile and skills to be developed by those working on care provision. Regrettably, not enough attention has been paid to spiritual care competence largely due to the lack of knowledge of professionals and what this entails. Therefore, this study aims to define the main attributes
