The Impact of Minimal Intervention Dentistry on Patient-Reported and Observation-Based Outcomes in the Pediatric Population: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

This review aimed to systematically investigate the effect of minimal intervention dentistry on patient-reported and observation-based outcomes of anxiety, pain and patient cooperation in the pediatric population. Microinvasive treatments (MITs) were compared to conventional treatments, home-based and professionally applied non-invasive treatments (NITs), and between MITs. Two reviewers independently screened studies from four electronic databases, extracted data, assessed the risk of bias and certainty of evidence with the GRADE approach. Ultimately, 26 studies were included for qualitative s

Benchmarking GPT-5, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Grok 4, and other LLMs on pediatric dentistry questions from a dental specialization exam.

Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models (LLMs), is an increasingly prominent tool in medical and dental education. Trained with deep learning and NLP techniques, these models interpret meaning, generate text, and manage complex information. They hold potential for practical educational applications, such as supporting exam preparation and personalized learning. Moreover, their performance in clinical case recognition suggests an emerging potential for use in diagnostic decision-support systems. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of state-of-the-art large lang

Are we adequately managing the oral health needs of children: a survey of the experience of general dentists and self-assessed confidence in pediatric dentistry.

Childhood caries is a public health problem with a significant burden on the community. The specialist dental workforce cannot adequately manage all treatment needs in children. Therefore, the general dental community remains critical in delivering care to children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the self-rated confidence of general practitioners in treating children. A cross-sectional survey was designed that involved general dentists in various primary care centers in Jordan. Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire about their experience and self-perceived level of

2012 American Board of Pediatric Dentistry College of Diplomates annual meeting: the role of pediatric dentists in the presurgical treatment of infants with cleft lip/cleft palate utilizing nasoalveolar molding.

The pediatric dentist plays a crucial role in the treatment and management of infants born with cleft deformities of the lip, alveolus, and palate. At New York University Langone Medical Center in New York City, 70% of infants with cleft lip/cleft palate (CLCP) are detected on prenatal ultrasound analysis. Thus, the role of the pediatric dentist can start as early as prenatal counseling. Nasoalveolar molding (NAM) is delivered during the first 3 to 5 months of life. During this stage of treatment, the pediatric dentist establishes the foundation of the “cleft dental” home and initiates the fir

The Use of Potassium Iodide in Pediatric Dentistry Does Not Change the Retention of Glass Ionomer Cement on a Dentin Treated with Silver Fluoride: In Vitro Results.

In pediatric and operative dentistry, caries treatment benefits from a therapeutic option based on the use of silver fluoride (AgF) associated with potassium iodide (KI) to avoid dark colorations on dental tissues. The objective of this in vitro study is to evaluate the retention of glass ionomer cement (GIC) on a dentin when treated with AgF and KI. Twenty-two healthy human permanent molars and eight human primary teeth, all free of any decay, were cut to obtain occlusal flat dentinal surfaces and were then treated with AgF for a duration of 60 s. For half of the teeth, a drop of KI was appli

Efficacy of virtual reality hypnosis versus conscious sedation with nitrous oxide in the management of dental anxiety in pediatric dentistry: protocol for a prospective randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Dental anxiety is defined as a persistent and excessive fear of dental treatment. It often leads to interruptions during procedures and, frequently, avoidance of dental care. For patients over the age of 7, nitrous oxide-oxygen inhaled sedation (NOIS) represents one of the most effective and well-established pharmacological approaches to reducing anxiety and pain during dental treatment. Meanwhile, medical hypnosis offers an interesting non-pharmacological alternative by inducing a hypnotic state, potentially serving as a means of sedation to alleviate anxiety or pain. The advancem
